The 90’s gen has been such a massive disappointment on all spectrums. We’re in 2020 and no male player under 31 (will be 32 this Sept) has won a major. This generation is now between the ages of 20-30, hence this should be their tour for the taking right now but instead these old farts are still owning them.

Shapovalov to win a slam? Based on what? His 1HBH? The guy's shot selection makes Thiem look like Einstein. His movement is remarkably poor for someone his height as well.

It's not that it's tougher for a guy below 6' to win a major, it's more that the average height is going up so the pool of shorter players is decreasing.

They just need to be good servers for their height as well as have a great return/baseline game.

It's all about short speed and return vs big serving. For an under 6 foot guy to win he has to return pretty much like Murray, Nadal and Joker, but at that shorter height, yet remain a solid returner. When you have these tall guys returning so well, it's not likely for a short guy to win. He'd have to have the serve of a taller man, and that's a huge ask.

Probably not until they add a lot more fast courts with lower bounces. De Minaur was very succesful at these events last year and even was whipping Nadal for a set at ATP Cup. Its not easy, and De Minaur burgeoning serve stats are one of the true surprises in the NextGen ranks (much more surprising than Medvedev really.) So the Demon is your man and he's barely under six feet.

Shapo on the border too and another giant serve jump just at the end of last year.

Shapo certainly has that MO, but he's had spans where he has shown control so its very likely to become a regular part of his game much like Thiem. Miami 2019 and 2019 Paris into Australian Open examples for Shapo, after Auz he went completely mental.

Stanislas Wawrinka is listed at 6', but could quite easily be slightly under, say a flat 182cm or 181cm. For my money, he's definitely not 6', because Nadal is barely 6' (despite his listing) and he appears to have at least 1.5" on Wawrinka.

Okay the main reason I think against it isn't that it's impossible for a shorter player to be that good but mainly HGH use in juniors artificially putting talents over 6'.

With the changes in the rules and equipment, it has become tough for a short player to bring the same weapons to the table as taller guys. Laver had the benefit of the fact that his generation didn't jump serve. They kept one foot on the ground. Jump serving became popular in the 70s, and then in the 80s the equipment changed. Players hit harder than ever, and with much bigger serves. The shorter guys don't have a forgiving angle across the net in the current conditions.
