Will Federer end the year as #2?

Now that Rafa has withdrawn from 2 Masters tournies where he's the defending champion, he's going to lose 2000 points flat. That means pre USO, his points will be 10,670. And Federer is already at 6,070 and he's not defending any titles.

Nadal might end up withdrawing from USO too! Who knows when he'll return. Could be another "Wimby 2012", for all we know.

With Nadal out, Federer has a shot at every title, and Djokovic confirms his YEN1 as well.

I think Fed will easily get more points and move in to no. 2 spot, and Rafa is only going downhill now, for the rest of this year.

I'm just so mad at him right now!!

I have thought about this for a very long time, traveled miles, swam across the oceans in search for wisdom and finally came up with an answer.

We don't know.

Rafa is injured and the very next thought is Federer winning a major or being Number 2 ? Why this affinity ? Is it because he is Nadal's best friend ?

Fed is 33..Dont get carried away by Wimbledon . I think it is time for Stan, Berdych, Nishikori and Dmitrov.

I think the person this benefits the most is Berdych actually. He now goes from the 5 seed at Cincy/Toronto to the 4 so he will be the top guy in his quarter and have a 50/50 chance to draw into Fed's half and not have to face Nadal who owns him historically. He could make a nice move up the rankings here and if he takes advantage possibly pass Stan after USO.

Also nice break for Murray. He would be seeded 9, but is now seeded 8 meaning he will get a bye and have even chances to draw into a quarter without Nole/Fed and have a chance to avoid a top 10 player in the R16. He could potentially reach the SF while continuing his run of no top 10 wins if someone takes out Berdych/Wawrinka/Fed in R2 or R3.

As a Murray fan I just hope he snaps that rather humiliating streak.

If Federer wins the USO then he has a slim shot...

This benefits everyone in the top 10 really, as Spicy pointed out Murray and Berdych do well from this as they have much better seeding prospects to further add to their ranking points.

I wouldn't say slim...

For Federer win the USO, he would probably perform well in the masters. And after that, he defends (if i'm correct): 2R shanghai, F Basel, SF Paris, SF (with 1 loss in the RR) WTF.

If he wins the open and 1/2 master's, he is on a lock for the #2.

OP, relax. Rafa didn't mean to get injured. And who knows, perhaps he isn't. Perhaps he's just working on some secret strategy on how to defeat Nole on HC that he won't like to reveal prior to the US.

Either way, don't be mad. Cheer for the bull's return. He'll do great things again as he always does. One may not like how he does it, but the results command respect.

Btw - Fed is still 2.000 points behind Rafa in the race. http://live-tennis.eu/race
So even if he wins Cinci and makes a RU in Montreal, he'll be behind. He may have a better fall season, but that we don't know yet. But it's premature to regard Fed as the favorite to end up 2nd in the rankings.

Don't be mad at nadal. Its not his fault. Relax maybe his chances at the WTF and AO will be better now. Well I hope for nadal fans like yourself that he wins one of those, I can see in many threads how much it hurts.
