Federer to end year as world number #2?

What's the point in Murray playing WTF?
He's as likely to win it as me.
What, endanger DC so he can dutifully get blown out by Federer again and notch up another tidy loss to Novak as well, just in time for the new season?

DC is seriously underrated.
He should play that, for his team and for his country.
Also, if he prepares properly for it, he'll win.
Lol, I wouldn't go that far mate. The guy is ranked #2 in the world!

He is, and he deserves to be.

But he stands a vanishingly small chance of going through Federer and Djokovic to win at the O2, and it wouldn't be worth the risk posed to DC.

How many matches played in that span? I think 3 (I am just curious, not trying to detract from your point which is also very interesting and good to note, lol)
Only 3. Monte-Carlo, US Open and WTF. Interestingly, Wawa's first ever victory against Fed came at Monte-Carlo'09.
Rightly so he beat Fed last year to win his only Masters there. Stan has a win against all the Big4 members on Clay.

Now Poor Murray is on losing streak against World no.5 Rafa as well.

Federer seems to have the upper-hand against Wawrinka on hard courts right now. Neither the US Open semi nor the WTF semi was particularly close. But I find it hard to see Federer beating Wawrinka again on clay if Wawrinka can bring his A-game. On clay, Stan's weight of shot off the ground is just going to be prohibitively difficult for Federer to do anything against. (I think Federer should consider skipping the clay-court season next year. I think he's finished as a threat on clay. And at his age, he'll need to be fresh if he's to challenge at the summer events. If he's still on form, he might have a chance at winning one of Wimbledon, the Olympics, and the US Open. But he will need to plan his schedule carefully).

This. I do feel he still needs to play on Clay just to stay at Top 4 without putting much pressure on body. The longer break he takes,
it will be more like he is coming back after a surgery. He should try drop shots and sabr even if he loses to Top Guy. It will be entertaining.
Let's stop it here. Murray deserves a thread. We somehow end up talking about Fed everywhere. :p

Well if all Top 10 played the same amount of tournaments the ranking would have been quite different. ND, Fed and Tsonga played 18, look at the rest of them.
