Will Nadal skip grass?

I figured he only played last year because of the #1. Assume he's a good reach behind do you think he just skips to focus on Canada and his USO title?

Federer would be defending 2000 so if he doesn't win that helps more than Nadal playing to begin with.

There's the hypothesis that he should play better once the grass slows in the second week. So if he can sneak past the lower ranked players early on, he could still win it.Not likely perhaps but still worth a shot.

I think he’s getting to that stage of his career, especially seeing what Roger has done with clay, that he thinks about skipping it. There were mutterings from his camp before last years grass season that the adjustment from clay to grass was getting tougher. I think it will depend how he feels after clay; he doesn’t seem quite ready to give up on grass just yet.

Depends on his RG result. If he wins it, I think he'll be confident enough to enter WO. If he loses RG, he'll want a GS bad enough that he can't skip WO.

So, it depends ..

Wait, what?

Well theres points to be gained there if hes after the #1 again. Theres a good chance he can go further this year if healthy. Theres also a good chance he goes out in R1 too LOL
I think he will play. He seemed really up for it last year, confidence wise too. It just didn't happen.

I wouldn't blame him tbh. If he's fit and defends most of his clay season he probably will play Wimbledon. It could give him a chance for back to back YE #1. And then there's the obvious prestige.
Still wouldn't be surprised if he gives up the chase and went directly for US open.

The field is simply too weak to pass the opportunity of winning wimbledon. With some luck and good form Nadal can still go deep.

And yet when he reached the 4th round in 2014 and 2017; both played on the second Monday he lost to Kyrgios and Muller. Maybe the hypothesis applied 2011 and before, but not post 2011.

If Rafa plays a full claycourt schedule I just don’t see him also getting to the backend of Wimbledon any more. I thought with the 3 week break since 2015 between RG and W this would have helped Rafa, but that has not materialised yet. 2015 he won Stuttgart after going out in quarters of RG, but still went out early at Queens and W.

He should play and give another run of the mill type of player a chance for their moment in the global sporting spotlight. Rosol, Darcis, Brown, then Müller so who will be next? Tomic?

I am thinking someone like the Kok is the type of player who Rafa could face in a early round and give him a lot of trouble. Big serve and forehand, plus nothing to lose. Assuming he can stay injury free for the rest of the year.

He's on the entry list for Queens, which he hasn't played for years due to tax reasons. That indicates he'll play Wimbledon.
Interesting, I didn't remember that so I started reading up on it. He stopped attending in 2012 but actually has played there once since. It was 2015 and he lost 1st round. I think he was going to play the last 2 years too but didn't for health reasons.

he'll play if he's fit.. the problem is it's only march & how many tournaments has he pulled out of already?
