Will Zverev lose his top 4 seed at the U.S. Open?

With his loss today, Zverev is 4th in the rankings with 4,845 points.

-Anderson is at 4,535 points. He needs to make the SF to get to 4,885 points and pass Zverev. That would mean beating Chardy (he's up a set), beating Goffin/Paire in R16, and beating Kyrgios/Coric/Chung/del Potro in the QF.

-Cilic is at 4,175 points after his R16 win today. He needs to win Cincinnati to get to 5,085 points and pass Zverev.

-Dmitrov (won Cincinnati last year) and Djokovic can't pass Zverev, even by winning the title.

Anderson wins his match, so he's now 2 wins away from a top 4 seed at the U.S. Open (assuming Cilic doesn't take the title).

he was the 2 seed in roland garros and the 4 in wimbledon ,did that helped him? no,he got easy opponents and still crashed ,i dont know why but i actually thing losing some ranking positions will be good for him ,people wont expect much from him ,less pressure is what he need imo,i think he will peak in the us open ,is no going to win it but at least will reach the qf without struggling

I stand corrected. I was not aware of that.

Eh, no worries. I am Eastern European and we have lots of those but the Russians take it to ridiculous extremes. They have diminutive forms for even the shortest names... and then they often have a diminutive form for the diminutive form.

Have not checked it out--He did hire Murray's old Coach Ivan Lendl

"Alexander Zverev has brought eight-time Grand Slam champion Ivan Lendl on board to help him take his game to the next level. The No. 4 player in the ATP Rankings made the announcement on his Instagram account.

“Welcome to the team Ivan Lendl”, Zverev wrote. He also shared photos of his entire team, including Lendl, and of Lendl watching him practise at the US Open, which starts Monday.

The 21-year-old German is also coached by his father, Alexander Zverev Sr. Alexander Zverev split with former World No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero in February after eight months with the Spaniard.

The 58-year-old Lendl brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience. The American spent 270 weeks at No. 1 in the ATP Rankings, third all-time behind Roger Federer and Pete Sampras. He works for USTA Player Development and helped Andy Murray ascend to No. 1 for the first time, win three Grand Slam titles and a pair of Olympic golds.

Zverev has won three ATP World Tour Masters 1000 titles and reached a career-high No. 3 in the ATP Rankings. But the 6'6” German has made only one Grand Slam quarter-final (2018 Roland Garros, l. to Thiem)."
