Some very optimistic posters, or should I say poster saying it will be %100 h19 as used by some pro's in platform 305gr... time will tell, but I have yet to see a good 'use' line released ;-)

I have no powers of divination, but there seems to be a opening for a dense and thin classic players frame Wilson could step into.

Rumors swirling about of a new stick floating around

-Ultra CV paint (Blue grommets apparently)
-H19 style throat
-18/20
-Monfils on the placard inside the head

More info coming soon I hope!
What he said, this is for real happening.

In talking to my local retailer I was under the impression that the Wilson Ultra Tour is basically a Pure Drive Tour or Head Extreme Pro. I could be off base but am interested in learning more about this new offering.

I have the new stick in my hands as we speak...

The new frame is called the Ultra Tour and will be available 8/15; retail will be $250. Dealers are seeing the frame this month.

Specs are:

97 sq. in
20 MM box beam
305g/10.8 oz.
18x20
31.5 cm balance/9 pts. HL
27 inch.
RA 58 strung (measured today on RDC machine)
Grip is foam filled; not sure about entire frame...

I have hit with it several times now and it has the classic feel that my H19 has! Might add a few grams to the head but not much else needed!

All of you guys longing for H19's get your wallet ready!

Just to be clear; this is NOT the same mold as the other Ultras.

I love this and my wallet hates this. Swing weight?

I will mention (like my H19's) the racket is a bit of a string snob. I've strung this new stick with full poly, poly/multi hybrid and full multi trying to dial in the right feel. So far the full multi plays best. I still get plenty of spin due to the flex of the frame and the depth is much better. I have plans all week end and can't get out to hit but next week I'm going to string full bed gut and see how she responds. I'll keep you updated...

Sorry; I work in the industry and I can't release any photos...
Can you describe what the paint job looks like?

Another 18x20 frame! So cool. :)
I won't have a choice but to add to the collection. Really pleased with the 58ra. I hope the frame is polarized. Can't wait for the SW measurement.

Thanks.

From what I hear it will look like the PS/Burn/Blade with black and Blue at 3/9.

Mold is one thing. Layup is another. Stiffness <60RA looks promising. We'll see how it performs in the feel department. I bet that if the mold is a H19 multiple side by side comparisons will be made.
From my understanding there are differences in exact layups between H19s for different pros at times though, or am I mistaken? I am quite sure that that is the case for the H22 at least.

I'm sure there are numerous layups.

A friend has an H19 in the BLX Blade paintjob. I'm looking forward to playtest it side by side with the Ultra Tour (if the mold is indeed the H19)... I am curious - What if it plays good? I love the H19, my wallet doesn't... also, you know... it's Wilson. Be prepared to go through numerous frames to find a matching pair. Recently a friend bought a supposedly factory matched pair (Wilson sold such sometime around 2002-2005) and guess what. They had different specs...

On a side note I'm also curious about the Vsense 10 Tour - basically a PB 10 MP with 16x19 pattern (Almagro).

It is a 6 mains drilling pattern or 8 mains drilling at the throat?

huh! ill be danged. wish they were doing a 16x19 too.

I agree the current Ultra 97 almost made me switch a few times, seems like if info is correct this will be a completly different line up...but who knows maybe the current mold and spec will live on in the new line.

Wilson reissues the PS 85, 6.1, and now maybe an H19 mold. Bravo!

Okay Head, your time is here to step up and finally release the older molds that you never stopped making for the pro players to the public again. You are making them already, no more excuses. :)

Thats what has me scratching my head, they brought back the ultra name on a line of pure drive-ish (not to be insulting) frames and now are supposedly releasing a Ultra Tour that is box beam low flex and dense pattern -- nothing could be further from the current frames. I would expect the 'cornerstone' of the line to have some relation to the rest other than color. I guess the Burn 95 is similarly unrelated to the rest of the burn line.

The paint is dark blue (navy) and light blue at 3 and 9. SW is 312...

That would be awesome! I really like the paint job on the new 6.1 18x20. If it looks anything like it but in black and blue it will be great.

Definitely gonna buy this one. I must support a company that makes 20mm, 58ra and 18x20 pattern!!
Just confirmed today that the entire frame is foam filled. At 315g strung and a 312 SW leaves some room to customize without the static weight becoming too heavy!

The updated Ultra line will be similar to the current line in beam width and power with the exception of the Ultra Tour...

got a feeling a 305 g 18x20 20 mm flat beam will be severly underpowered, but they are still making lead tape, so ...
You are correct; with these specs there should be plenty of room to customize and get the swing-weight higher if you desire...

That racket is going to be ridiculous feeble in terms of power and stability.

How can they call it 'Tour' with specs like that?

For many consumers this racket will be a platform to customize to their specs. The thing you can't customize is the "feel" and stiffness; this racket has both of these at the "tour" level. The lower static weight and swing weight will allow you plenty of room to customize. Many pros start with a hairpin much lighter than this and then customize. It simply allows greater flexibility...

Some rackets lend themselves to easy customization, others never feel right no matter what you do.

Take the PS95 for example - great feeling graphite/kevlar braid, superb drill pattern but feeble in terms of mass and swingweight. By the time you'd fiddled about with it to get the weight 'about right' and the racquet stable, you're in the 350-360g range and have just wasted weeks/months of time playtesting, adjusting, playtesting adjusting etc. The Tecnifibre 315 Ltd is another flexy, underweight lemon.

That Ultra Tour, I suspect is going to need alot of lead in the hoop. Then you're probably going to need weight in the handle to counterbalance, probably some in the throat as well to balance the distribution of weight, with huge amounts of time experimenting and adjusting. Underweight 305g 20mm thin beamed rackets are high maintenance and a huge time drain in terms of customization. Throw in Wilson's extremely poor manufacturing variations and the whole thing is just an exercise in frustration.

If you want a good 18x20, get a 6.1, old Prestige MP, or the Blade 98. Wilson have been producing quite a few SNAFUs in recent years and I suspect that this will also fall into that category.

That is correct. The demo I currently have is 315g strung...
Makes it even more like a pro stock platform racquet/ hairpin ready to modify. Can hardly believe this is really happening. An 18x20 flexy flat beam black [EDIT: Navy] blue beauty with scope to add lead and polarise :):):)

Why are there no 16x19 string patterns??? I get that the string spacing is the most important thing, but damn. 16x19 is really lacking in the newer models

I don't think you understand what is a pro-stock frame. This is exactly the type of frames pro will use and modify to suit their needs.

I am personnally stoked that Wilson is considering releasing such a frame to the public. It's also the same reason many say these frames won't sell, because they just don't get what a pro frame is. As TennisTodd pointed out, it's not even that light or that low a sw for a platform frame.

Hey TW, put me on the demo list please! :)
