wood to Pro Staff 85 to Wilson Tour 90 to ???

I am thinking if switching to a racket with a bigger sweet spot, more power and spin, but with the control of my Tour 90's. I am thinking of demoing the Wilson Blade 98 18x20, the RF Wilson 97, the Wilson Pro Staff 95 and maybe the Pro Staff 95s, and the Six One Tour 95 18x20. The problem with the Six One Tour 95 is they no longer have my grip size in stock. I think they are discontinuing this line for 2016. I am curious to see the new rackets Wilson is adding for 2016. I have always been a huge Wilson fan, and I know Head and other brands have some great rackets. Thanks for any feedback. I am 56 years old, I enjoy playing singles, and around a 4.5 rating. I guess it is time for me to get with the times and buy a bigger racket.

I'd recommend you demo Babolat Pure Control Tour (will need some lead on the loop to match Tour90 stability) and RF Wilson 97.

Both will give you more stringbed and spin while keeping some heft and control, but they are also quite different and will give you a good range to explore.

You're not going to find that, the physics alone prevent that from happening. It's like asking if you can make surgical cuts with a butcher knife.

My Yonex RDiS 93 strung with MVS Focus sure comes close.

Super solid feel, close to peerless in this department with a big sweet spot.

You still get the feeling of control a smaller head brings.

The best frame I've hit for backhand down the line shots by a seriously huge margin!

Would recommend demoing the following:

Wilson RF 97
Volkl Super G 10 325
Prince Textreme Tour 95
ProKennex Q Tour 325
ProKennex Redondo MP
Babolat Pure Control 95

These have power, bigger sweet spot and control that you are looking for. Cannot go wrong with any of these!

Definitely try the PS 95. I really like it, though many Tour 90 aficionados disagree with me.

The racquet definitely needs extra weight though and I find that some silicone in the handle does amazing things in this racquet.

I'm one of those people.

The PS 95 is a Pro Staff for people who can't handle the weight, but it still has that Pro Staff feel.

However, if you want the PS 95 to perform like a true 6.0 85 lineage frame, then you're talking leather and a couple packs of lead tape. The amount of weight you have to add doesn't even make it feel like how the racquet was intended to be played.

It's like adding hot sauce to something that wasn't meant to be spicy. After a certain point you're not even enjoying the meal anymore, you're just eating hot sauce.

As I said, some disagree with me, which is why I said the OP should give the PS 95 a try (not buy it immediately) ;)

Certainly better than most other options.

If you like living in midtown, uptown just won't do. Try a Volkl or Yonex mid. The new Volkl 330 mid might be the right kind of compromise.

I'm a previous user of the PS85 and Tour 90. I'm currently using the RF97. I tried the 95s and didn't like the open pattern which I find I can't control my shots well. The PS95 was nice but didn't have enough weight. I have not tried the others you mentioned. The other posters seem to offer very good advice so I do hope you find your racket! :)

The Head YT IG Radical Pro is a great frame with a similar feel. Or (obviously) the RF97A, though it's clearly a different beast......

I'd also recommend trying out the PS 95; has that nice box beam feel, feels fast in stock form, great control. Though in my experience it feels low powered compared to other racquets mentioned here.

P.S. SpinToWin, been hitting with the PS 85 extensively, going to give it some more time.

But... Isn't the RF97A even more open? During my playtest with it, I shredded the strings in record time.

I'm not bashing the PS 95, I think it has a lot of appeal, but if the player thinks s/he can just lead it have it perform like the PS 6.0 85/90, it'll be a close second. Probably the closest thing possible, but still so far far away.

Prince Tour 95 or one of the denser Wilson Blades come to mind. These are relatively flexy, spin friendly and much more torsionally stable than the 90. Great depth control, easy to play aggressive with them.

Much higher twistweight. Better weight distribution.

Agree with the nod to the Volkl Super G 10 325g. I have the previous generation of that frame (Organix 10 325g) and once I tuned it with a little lead tape I found phenomenal performance and feel with it. I also enjoy the Volkl C10, but both frames should be demoed like anything else.

Also getting hold of a Blade 98 18x20 soon. Had a really fun afternoon with a demo and I'm ready to give it a home for an extended trial. Not as head-light as some other Wilsons in your racquet history, but worth a look I'd say.

A Vantage/Angell TC95 would fit very well. Available in 16x19 or 18x20. Solid, with an old school feel which I assume you like about the other frames? A more modern head size whilst retaining an old school feel.

Or even the racket in my sig. A modern throw back as it were. Prefer it to the RF97 when I demoed that.

Federer answered your question a long time ago.

For serious singles, the RF97, no contest. The current Blade 18x20 is also a very nice stick but needs a little weight in the handle IMO.
