Someone had already mentioned tennis isn't about 8 weeks of playing(Serena skipped USO, so 6 wks for her). It's about playing tennis throughout the entire year. In case you didn't know, there's around 60 total tournaments this years, not four. Get it?

Serena misses too much tennis through injury and tennis has always been about a mixture of Grand Slam performance and consistency throughout the year; if one player does well in a couple of grand slams but does nothing else, it stands to reason another player who's performed well throughout the whole year will overtake them. And rightly so.

Tennis is a season long game, spread across many competitions. Not an 8-week game, spread across 4.

Besides, I expect Woz to win a GS next year anyway, which should add some shine to the no1 spot (and spare her from the Jankovic comparisons).

Speak for yourself. The system is fair and balance...it’s an opportunity for any player to reach the top if they are good enough. Unlike biased poster like you so quickly to put Serena at the top when she’s isn’t playing.

And Nadal has won 3 grand slams, better than Serena, but that's only 6000 those points and good enough for 3rd in the ATP rankings. you have to play more than just slams.

There is nothing wrong with the ranking system; it represents which players are a consistent threat day in and day out. The reason you don't see this in the men's game is that Nadal and Federer are actually committed to the sport, unlike Serena, so the rankings are actually a true reflection of ability.

It is not the WTA's or Wozniacki's fault that she is #1: the blame lies entirely with Serena.

How could the WTA possibly change the ranking system unless they were to give a grossly disproportionate number of points out at the majors, which really would put a lot of flukish players near the top based on 1 or 2 good runs.
