Yonex Srd tour 90 review

Hi everyone. This past week I have had the pleasure of hitting with my brothers 3 yonex srd tour 90's and I thought I would share my experience with all of you. I was able to get in 3 sets of dubs in winning 2 of them and played a 3 set singles match when my oppenent had to retire in 3rd set due to breaking all his strings. .All 3 of them are 1/2 grip size and where strung with his set up of lightning xx 16 g at 67 lbs and all clocked in on the scale at 13.3 oz and they had a decent amount of lead at the 12 o'clock. When he used these he was a top ranked high school player. My play style is an all court style with counter puncher tendencies I use an eastern forhand grip and have a 2hbh and I am like a 3.5 level player due to my bad lack of fitness.

Ground strokes: From the first hit in warm up's I could tell I was in for a real treat hitting these beauties. It had a perfect blend of control and spin and also power was supplied with good contact and stroke mechanics due to the heft with this racquet.I was really surpised as to how big the sweetspot was on this frame and it seemed to be bigger than my main frame the hyper hammer 5.2 .On the forhand wing I felt like federer most of the time just efortlessly punishing the ball back at my oppenent. From the back hand side It was a lil tougher since it is my weakest wing and it required on my part better foot work and preperation but when done right it was like dieing and going to heven. The real down side with groundies with this frame was as the matche went on and I started to tire my foot work and fitness really was effecting my shots and started to land less deep with less pace.
Score: 81

Volleys: This hands down was the thing I like most about this racquet. It reminded me of hitting with a 6.0 85 but being more stable with more control and power. It was shockingly manuaverable for its mamouth weigth and each time I got a volley it was an easy put away with lots of power and control and I dont recall ever needed to do a 2nd volley to end the point.
Score: 95

Serves: This was a mixed bag for me with this frame since it took me some time to find my grove with this due to its massive weight. When I was making proper contact and pronating my wrist good the best serves of my life where coming off this stick. the main problem was I could not get in a grove with this frame and also as time went on this is where the heft of the racquet really came into effect big time. In the later sets of my hitting sessions I found my self slicing and kicking way more serves in and having to hit many more 2nd serves.

Score: 76

Returns: This is where the heft and solidness of this frame shined. Going against big servers I was able to block back shots deep with pace and when given the oprotunity on a weaker serve I could easily put it away or make my oppenent get on the defensive If he/she got to it.Also there was no twisting of the frame when returning hard hit serves witch I really enjoyed. This part of my game was the least affected by fatigue as the matches went on.
Score: 85

Overal Score:85
This frame was a blast to hit with and I am glad my brother let me take these out on the court this past week. The small headsize frame made me focus alot more on footwork and technique but without knowing it it made me raise the level of my game and I accepted the challenge since I was just focusing on all the fun I was having on the court with this. If these where readily available I would be very very tempted to switch to this and I know my serves would be much better than they where during playtesting. I would recomend this racquet to any one who is an all court player who is looking for a perfect blend of power and control and also able to handle the heft of this frame.

Take care and until next time,
Dominic aka Timokabo

I'd agree w/ this review. I once double bageled an opponent during a league match. However, I felt that if it had gone on a little longer, I would have eventually lost b/c my strokes were losing steam, particularly the serve. In another 4.0 tournament, I lost to the eventual winner in 3 sets. I then lost the compensation match as well in 3 sets. The cheap points off strong serves early in the match were being replaced by 2nd serves.

I hoped fitness would adjust to the frame, but I'd have to be playing 3+ times a week. I should also say that the topspin FHs with the racquet was great. For me that was the high point of the frame. Second was dealing w/ heavy passing shots which were relatively easy to volley away.

First, the specs of mine:

Yonex Super-RD Tour 90
Weight: 374/13.19
Flex: 61
SW: 346

What I like most about this racquet is that it feels so solid. This can surely be appreciated by many types of players, as long as they can handle the heftiness. Like timokabo I found it a little bit tricky to find the groove on serves, but other than that it was pretty easy to adapt to.

The SRD Tour 90 really is an amazing racket to hit with, obscenely gutted I cracked one of my 2 when just hitting with a mate. Certainly a great racket to have in the collection. Does your brother still use them, or do you think you would be able to get one from him for yourself?

The spin potential with this frame was really good. But the static weight and low power made it hard to get into long sets without losing mental focus from all the physical exhaustion. It's also quite muted.

yeah it was a pleasure to hit with. sadly my brother still uses them and they have been his main stick for the past 7-8 years. I might have to keep an eye out for a couple of these if i ever see them for sale

You are dead on with the top spin from the forhand wing. I had to shake my head a couple times at first when hitting fh's since I was getting more spin on the shots than I did when I demoed an apc a few months back.I just wish I had the strength to be able to serve consistant for more than 1.5 sets since the last set and a half I ended up just spinning serves in

I think if i had more time to get used to serving with the racquet the score would be much higher in that area.

I know this post is old but I've been searching for this racket for a long time and was wondering if you still have them for sale.
