Best midsize rackets in your honest opinion :)

Hey all!

For a long time, I've been loving my AI 98. Perfect stick IMHO.
But, I wanted to try out a midsize frame, after playing with a Jack Krammer Staff with natural gut.
It was perfect, so anyone have midsize rackets for recommendations?

Thanks!

Another thread for BP to ruin... here BP, here BP... I'm just here for the popcorn and not much else since, the broken record that's BP doesn't have many tracks to choose from anyway lol!

What string / tension do you play with in your AI98? It can be a pretty soft frame depending on how you string it.

The Wilson Pro Staff 90 is probably among the stiffest mid I hit with. I found the Pro Staff 85 to be more comfortable, and I have no doubt a classic prestige would be even more so. When you are dropping that much headsize from your normal stick you'll probably either want a higher stiffness or swingweight than you are used to. Alternatively string it softer like the gut you mentioned. I probably play best with my liquidmetal prestige mid from my sampling.

I've always been curious about the Pacific x feel 90

@Matthew Lee what head size range are you asking about? Depending on who you talk to mid might be 80-93, 95, 98. It seems to vary based on when people started playing. It is a fairly loose term, like midsize cars.

It's right in my sig. PS85 and I like the re-issue version best because of the lower SW and stiffness. Easy on my elbow when serving yet it weighs close to 13 oz with wilson pro overgrip and shock trap dampener. Super thin beam. Fav racquet yet. I'm probably going to buy 1 or 2 more just so I have a stock of them. You never know when TW may stop selling them!

I have to say by far the Wilson KFactor Tour 90 was the best mid I have personally used.

If I would of been good enough to play with this beast day in and day out vs anyone, it would still be my racquet of choice.

Unfortunately even the great K90 cannot help me win out very tough matches that midpluses can.

So far, Aero500 weighted to 12 oz and 325 SW's. Gotta try the F-100 too.

If you can get hold of a Bio100 or the F100, I highly recommend them. For anyone who thinks mids are a challenge to play with, their opinion will change with one of these. It's a delight.

Been thinking of that for 5 year's now, haven't seen one on TW's used section.
Very close to ordering a M-2, with STBite16 at 32 lbs. Specs right up my alley. Being 67 forces me to look the other way, but I already have racket's of 105,107, and 110, and none hit with more sweetspot than the old Aero 500's, or F5T's. I suspect, for a big racket to be effective for a blind old fart, it needs to be in the 120's in size.

Well, depending on what our definition of midsize is, I love the Angell TC95. I think midsize is a bit of a broad spectrum. For example, my six.one 95 doesn't feel like a midsize frame while the TC95 does given the narrow head.

No it's not, midsize is stuff below 93 square inches. I don't know what Prince is doing calling their frying pans midsize. Your six.one 95 doesn't feel like a midsize frame because it isn't.

Based on the fact that you weight up some of your lighter racquets, the M2 is probably close to your finished specs but in a more precise package. And as you know, a larger racquet head doesn't always equate to a larger sweetspot.

Thanks for that!

My default answer is generally always a Prestige Mid iteration racquet. But a couple of sleepers are the Yonex Rdis 100 Mid and the BLX Blade Tour.

Ahem .... let me nominate my racquet of choice for life .... Prince Tour Diablo Mid.

It is low powered with a 93 sq in head, 12.20 oz strung weight, 9pts headlight balance, 331 swingweight, and 19.0 mm beam width.

Uhhh I'm just looking for a headsize in between 70-90. Thanks!

Btw, I string my AI 98 with a poly around 54-57 pounds, depending on the string.

I played with a Prince Tour Diablo back in high school like 12 years ago. Awesome racquet. One of my favorite mid racquets ever made for sure.

Take a chill pill bro. No need to plain shoot down someone else's words because you disagree. Many people do consider 95 and under to be midsize so get off your high horse.

Back on topic.

These threads will always end up about what size constitutes being a mid and whether they are relevant to the modern game. Both subjects covered ad nauseum that just descend into anarchy.

If you are looking for a mid for you, after playing with the JK Staff, then look towards the PS85 or if you can get one, a PC600 or IG Mid.

I use the Dunlop F100, but they're hard to find and lighter than these three that are considered more your classic mids.

If you are adventurous, try to get hold of Lendl's Adidas GTX Pro or Pro-T. Both should also play great when you have multi or natural gut in it. Feels quite plush too and definitely help to hone in on your mechanics.

Prince named their racquet Prince Tour Diablo Mid. I did not. They call it a Mid and it has a 93 sq in head.

So, until Prince issues a correction or retraction that the racquet is not a mid, I will follow their lead and call it a midsize racquet.

But regardless of the category, I love the racquet and will use it until I can 't play tennis anymore.
