In which alternate universe does a rusty, injured Federer who has hardly played any matches this year appear as a SF opponent in the 'toughest possible draw' for Djokovic ?
LOL. If Fed is unable to play himself into top knotch slam form (will he ever get much better?), then Djokovic gets a dose of Thiem and Raonic in SF and QF with a dose of Zverev in R16 if Nicky's back under the weather.;)

Is Grigor contractually required by his sponsors to post at least n daily pics of self on Instagram? Maybe he should think about getting his priorities right: focus less on carpet bombing the social media and focus more on getting his game back. Of course the Cookie Monster in me thinks otherwise: "Mmm eye candy... Gimme more! I want Grigor moar! Off with the pants!" :D

Thiem with the #8 Seed, not only did Nadal's injury help Dominic at Roland Garros but it has saved Thiem from seeing Djokovic and Murray before the QFs.

Read that Wimby's marketing aggressively for relevance in the US market, among others. I guess it really has stopped selling itself. Kind of sad to think of the moment when... it took a promo to rustle up interest. What was the moment when the mystique died?

No one in North America follows tennis. (excluding the great North American fans here on TT)
Tennis headlines in the sports section of the news are rare.
Team sports (and the business sponsorships backing them) are dominant. The entire community gets behind a team and the stars of "their team". Individual sports have fallen in profile.

Until there are a couple of American male superstars in tennis, there is no hope. Even then, pro golf, in spite of having many American stars, is also fading in glory.

Are individual sports also waning in popularity with spectators in Europe?

Ooops, I just realized that this likely isn't the best thread to post this on. Probably better discussed on the "General" thread.

Tiger and Fed were popular.

You dont See what i fixed in your post?
Look at R32 and 16 :)
Simoan did make QF at Wimbledon, but don't ask me how. Really like Simon when he first was quite highly ranked and he was great last year making it to 10, but he's on the decline watch list with Stan and Tsonga. Not expecting much from him at Wimby where serve dominates, but the draw will tell.

Luke Saville (2011 Junior Wimbledon champ) has won 8 straight Wimbledon qualifying matches. Won 3 in 2014 to qualify for main draw (made the 2R of main draw as well by beating an unseeded... wait for it... Dominic Thiem), 3 in 2015 to qualify for main draw and 2 so far in 2016! All 3 years he's been unseeded as well in the qualies. Bloody hell he deserves a main draw WC in 2017 at this rate!!

I just feel like this is the year some interesting youngsters make themselves felt, finally.

I remember tennis in the 80's... it was full of interesting players... people who never became household names or slam winners. Cmon next gen.

Wondering if this is a "Video Killed the Radio Star" thing happening. ;) Did social media kill tennis? Did the selfie do in this beautiful game? ;)
Waiting and waiting for a great start to emerge as Amercian youth atrophy due to video game addiction. Roddick was the top American player for the last 10 years and I hate Roddick, so really we've had quite a draught. Serena cleaning up, but has little competition. I'm not so sure tennis is that down in the USA. Indian Wells and The Real Slam(cincy) seem to be prospering. The lower American events struggle because US contigent is not very strong. Jack Sock could have been edging close to the top ten this year and has imploded. Taylor Fritz imploding. Maybe Canada's FAA will become great and draw fans back. If Thiem is able to make a run at Wimbledon he will be a huge, huge draw worldwide. The Thiem game is very appealing to watch and if he's challenging the top 5 he's going to get a lot more TV time. As it stands to the more ignorant tennis viewer, Thiem has laid one egg at the French Open SF. If he performs as he can in a big match and takes down top 4 player (even Stan) at Wimby he will get very, very popular.

Just realized that with the seeding structures, we could have 15th seed Kyrgios v 19th seed Tomic 3R. I bet that's going to happen..
Alternatively could have Nick facing Isner who he can't seem to beat! That would suck for Nick!

Good points. Thiem is awesome, and his timing is stellar. He ticks like 9/10 boxes that I want to see in a pro.

What Thiem lost on grass? That's impossible! He would have won Wimbledon if not for this Saville!.... Oh yeah, he was 2-6 on grass career until two weeks ago. He's been very lucky lately, savey?;)

Saville's been lucky? I'd say unlucky!
Thiem's been lucky, savey?;) Saville I don't know much about except the 79 model.

Saville the player must love Wimbledon. Maybe Thiem's first round opponent for old times sake.;)

As I said it's a combination of rankings and odds, and Nick is one of the biggest favorites after the obvious top 3. I am not one of those who are desperate for some youngster to burst. ;)
You must secretly love and admire Berd brain to have included him. He's checking in at 0.0.;) He's 10th in the ATP Race so it appears the Berdy decline will a long drawn out affair where we'll have the opportunity to cheer his every defeat and jeer his every antic has he tries to fight his much hoped for retirement.:p

I don't know, they never met. Hopefully I will be able to tell once I see the match. ;)

Yeah, I admire him so much that I actually managed to misspell his first name. :D:oops: That's what happens when one types on the phone, sometimes it has it's own mind.
