Yup. Halep was beaten mentally in the first 4 games imo, maybe even before the match begun. Serena playing very well but naive tactics from Halep. She has too much ability to play like this. She could grow as the match goes on, but there’s only one winner.

Halep could have hit an approach DTL and come forward, but of course she hit a safe CC shot and found herself immediately in trouble from what was an advantageous position

If I like something about Serena then it’s her attitude to always go on the court as the favourite in her own mind, just like: "No matter if my opponent is #1 and no matter how bad I played for the last months, I will thrash her."

I think she has this kind of "positive arrogance" even more than Federer.

Look at that point. Serena pulls Halep out wide to her BH side. Halep lunges and replies with a punted 2 hander. Why? That shot is illogical from that position. Play a cross court slice or BH round the net.

Sharapova has the same problem, she rarely takes 2 hands off the racket when on the BH side even when it looks uncomfortable to hold on.
