Do you mark your racquets?

Lindros13

If you have more than one of the same racquet, do you mark them so it's easy to identify which one is which? If you use the same string and same tension then it doesn't really matter, but I usually have different strings and it's nice to quickly see which is which, without having to try and read the strings.

I have 3 racquets and I just added different colored magnetic tape to the very top of the grip, so it sticks out beyond any overgrip that I add. "Racquet1" has red, "Racquet2" has white, and "Racquet3" has blue.

What do you do?

I label them with a P-Touch, I have the date I bought them, and the number.

I have a spiral book with weight balance and length, stock and modified, and I put a tally mark next to the racquet number every time I string it so that I can keep all of my racquets with approx the same amount of play on them, and the same number of stringjobs.

I got a dry erase baseball team roster type clip board that is numbered 1-16 and next to each number I put the string tension of the racquet, and in the spot for the players name I put the string type.

That's a beautiful collection...

Did you buy all of those at retail price Roger?
Why do you need twelve N6.1 tours, wouldn't four or five do the job just the same?

I could never be Roger, I thought about it, and it just would never work out.

Two main reasons.

1. I stink.

2. His girlfriend is ugly.

Here are some of my other replies to that question.

why do you have 12 racquets?

To play tennis with? I usually keep 6 strung at 58, 2 at 56, 2 at 60, 1 at 62, 1 at 64.

ALU lasts me about 2 hours provided my partner can thump. In tournaments I change racquets every set, then use them up the rest of the way in practice. For tournament play I would really like to have 16+, because if I go deep into the draws I am cutting out strings that may still have an hour or more of play left in them.

J
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Are you a semi-pro or pro player becuase most professional players dont take 12 rackets to a match. Most take around 6, why do you need 12. Also how the HELL do you break ALU in 2 hours...

Pros have six or so racquets strung a day, for practice, or play, and the ones they don't use still get the strings cut out and restrung the next day.

I don't have that luxury.

Pros know who they are playing and what the weather is going to be like before they have their racquets strung for a match.

I don't have that luxury.

So, I keep a variety of tensions in my bag, and for a tournament, I try to have enough racquets strung to get deep into the draw (Power of positive thinking)

I mean figure in the outdoor season, I will be stringing 5+ racquets a week.

And if you use a new racquet every set in a tournament, then you could find yourself out of racquets in a hurry, and have to be cutting out strings that still have life in them.

I could play with 5 in the winter, I could play with 8 socially, but for tournament play, without the luxury of same day stringing, or the money to spend, I really would like 16+ for travel tournament play.

In my 2007 tennis budget, I figure to string 250+ racquets.

I will break ALU within a 2 hour hitting session with a good partner, not in 2 hours of match play.

i name my racquets and write their names on the top of the grip tape.

my first n6.1 95 says "ariana," and my second one reads "adriana." my prestige is unnamed cuz its easily identifiable in my bag.

I just found a new way to mark them, I smash #1 one time, #2 two times, #3 three times, and four is now broken. ;)

I don't throw them really hard out of anger, I don't get angry or upset on the court, I just kind of toss them out of disgust, or drop them and walk away to gather my thoughts.

It is something I have been working on, with a little help from a mental coach. On bad days it is like "How can I work this hard, and suck this bad?". So he basically told me to never say anything negative about my game, and to always speak of it in a positive and uplifting way.

I never paid much attention to the mental game, but now realize that it is something you need to work at and train just like your serve. I always thought it was something you had or didn't have, but now realize it is something you need to develop.

I am kind of surprised I haven't taken out a racquet since I got the N90s, I usually crack one a year or so on a half volley, but I thwack these on the ground occasionally, and they look pretty beat up, but they are real strong, like tanks.

The RDS is the same way, except it is rather flexible, and just bends. I have an ungodly number of paint chips though. I do the same thing though, I drop my frames a lot.

I am going to start a thread on how many racquets someone should have depending on how they play, and their access to stringing. I find that a lot of serious players are under racqueted.

if i had two racquets of the same type id put a huge label on one of them saying "practice racquet"
go into a match, use that. and when im losing pull out my "game racquet"
scare them for a bit, then continue to lose. haha woo

No, this is my first year playing open so I wont have the ranking for a little while. I am friendly with the wilson rep, and distributors, and get hooked up, but don't have a contract. I should have wilson Preferred player by the end of the year, and really would like to get on someones string program, cuz it is gonna suck having to string 250+ racquets a year.

Impressive collection.
I use shock absorbers for two racquets for matches: Blue & Black
Practice racket has Pink
Emergency racquet: None
I Blue & Black w/ Gut or gut hybrid. I try to rotate the shock absorbers as well.

I am going to go see Roman in NYC next month, and talk to him. I will be getting something, either 4 more Ncodes, and having 16 matched ones, or something new, in which case I will want to get about 30 of them and be done with racquets for a while.

I have tried the K90 and it is very nice, but I want to see what Roman has up his sleeve, maybe something that feels as solid, but packs a little more firepower.

Yea, it is easier to just keep them all in one place, incase I have to switch tensions, or stop by the stringer, or whatever, it would suck to be switching them around at home all the time. Believe it or not, if I don't have a chance to get to the stringer any given week, I have come real close to running out of bats. I start to get nervous when I get down to about 5, and then when I am down to my last three it is like "OK I have to go NOW"

Well as long as you're throwing money away like that, I'll give you my address so you can send some my way.

Obviously I'm kidding, but that's a lot of dough. Nice stash though.

Your "How Many" thread made me think along these lines for you, too.

I see how many frames you burn through -- and I see how much lead you modify your sticks with -- and I think, "He should be using something different." I dont' know what that "something" is, but ... what did Roman have to say?

Didn't make it to see him, he was away at a tournament when I had planned to go (happened twice in fact), so I ended up picking up enough N90s to get me through 2007. Plan is to switch to the K90 in January but I will consult with him first since in addition to matching and handles I would like to hear his imput on how I have them set up.

As I go through the process I will post about it because I know many posters are curious about the process, and costs (Kind of curious about that cost thing myself *Gulp*).

Also dying to see what my flexed out N90s read on the RDC compared to a new one.

Stay Tuned for more info.

I have 3 Head Metallix 2s...

...that I string identically with Technifibre X-1 BiPhase at 62. I stencil them all with a Head stencil with blue ink (why all blue? The red and black inks are by a different manufacturer, and they don't last...), and then I put a #1, #2, or #3 below the Head logo.

I play tournaments, too, but not as many as JollyRoger, so I can get by with 3 bats. However...tennis is not my only sport. In the summer, I also ride road and mountain bikes, and my current stash consists of:

- 2002 Litespeed Tuscany
- 2003 Trek Fuel 90
- 2004 Trek 5000

...and in the winter, there's ski racing, which makes tennis racket addiction look like somebody who really likes Malomars. My current quiver:

168 cm. Atomic R:EX
175 cm. Head Monster 88
157 cm. Atomic SL11
165 cm. Dynamic VR17
165 cm. Volkl WC SL
165 cm. Atomic race stock SL12
2 pairs 183 cm. Head IGS RD
195 cm. Atomic Super G
2 pairs 201 cm. Atomic Super G
204 cm. Atomic Super G
205 cm. Atomic Super G
212 cm. Atomic Downhill

...and we won't even get into the other stuff. I'll post a picture later this week...
