Just got back from my first time hitting with the VCORE pro, which is actually my first time ever hitting with a Yonex frame. I just recently joined the club of people that loved playing with the PS one7 16x19, but my elbow does not. At first I didn’t want to blame the frame, but it’s now getting progressively worse every time I play. I took 2 weeks off from playing to let my elbow heal, but then after another outing with it my elbow was again sore so I’ve determined it’s time to move on.
I had replaced the grip on my PS with a Wilson shock shield, added 6g to the hoop, and 3g of blue tac in the buttcap. Finished static weight I was playing with was 347g and 7pt HL. It was still not enough to tame the harshness from off center hits.
I was able to get the 310 and 330 from my local shop to demo. I took them out today and hit off the ball machine. Strung weight on my demos with OG and dampener was 333g and 351g and both are around 7pt HL. Both are strung with a hybrid of Gamma Moto and TNT @ 53lbs, although one was strung 10/18 and the other 2/19 (the downside to demos).
I started off with the 330 since static weight and balance was very close to my PS. However, after only hitting one hopper of forehands, my forearm was already tired which tells me even though weight and balance were close, the swingweight on the 330 is definitely higher than what I’m used to playing with. It’s a really solid and stable frame in stock form, but I have to be honest with myself and I just don’t have the arm strength to swing it right now. With only being able to play once or twice a week at this point in my life, I just think it’s too much stick for me personally, but seems like a really nice frame if you can handle it.
So I then switched to the 310 and finished the rest of my hitting session with it. Obviously honeymooning, but I sure enjoyed playing with it. I just found it to be a really well rounded frame. Good feel and control, decent spin, and I could swing out without worrying about it sailing long. I really enjoyed volleying with it and served well with it also.
One thing became apparent to me today. A frame like this forces me to have better mechanics which I think is a good thing. I started playing with the PD for awhile last summer, and I developed a bad habit of not swinging all the way through the ball. It got better once switching to the PS, but after hitting with the VCORE pro today I can tell I still haven’t been using full strokes as I should. I think it’s due to fear of hitting long because those frames provide so much free power. And I simply didn’t need to because they provide power even on less than full strokes. But I really enjoyed getting back to a frame like this that lets me swing with full strokes and not have to worry so much about hitting long.
I will definitely be hitting with the 310 some more, but at this point I’m really close to making the switch. If anything it could maybe use a few grams of lead in the upper hoop for some more plow, but I wouldn’t want to add too much because I really enjoyed its maneuverability in stock form. Before committing, I think I’m also going to demo the VCORE 98 and maybe the Ezone 98.
