Novak Djokovic will definitely be next #1 in the world and a legend

I am extremely impressed by Djokovic's game. He is going to get the #1 ranking at some point next year and will be a legend. I should probably change my user id to DjokovicForever because Nadal really sucked the last 6 months. Anyways my prediction is that Djokovic will destroy Federer's legacy and will take Federer into retirement the way MacEnroe took Borg into retirement. Djokovic is way more entertaining to watch than the boring Federer and Djokovic's personality is not as annoying and arrogant as that of Federer. I do not see any flaws in Djokovic's game and he can hit any shot effortlessly. Vamos Djokovic!!!!!!!

I just had to disagree with the statement made saying that djokovic isn't arrogant and federer is. Wasn't it that fool djokovic that claimed he was in control of a match where he was playing nadal at the FO, he was down a set and 5-2, and retired saying he would have won that set and the match.

looks like you need to learn the definition of arrogance mr nadalforever

I consider Djokovic also a bit arrogant but let's not forget that when Djokovic made those statements last year he just barely turned 19 and was probably joking with that statement. Federer makes much more arrogant statements recently (lets not forget all those disrespectul statements against Nadal during last years clay court season) even though he is 25 years old. I personally think Federer is a much bigger jerk than Djokovic. But I really don't care about personality because the only thing that I care about is how entertaining it is to watch a player. I find Federer extremely boring to watch and watching Federer play is like a perfect cure to insomnia. Djokovic is way more entertaining to watch and hopefully he will be ranked #1 as fast as possible.

Again, what is wrong with arrogance? Especially within teh sporting worlds...

I bet you there are stick brokers out there, and surgeons that are arrogant...it may be part of the resaon they have achieved...

Secondly, I think yout jumping the gun in saying that Djokovic will become a legend.

He is damn good, and as you said has very few weaknesses, but just to cite a another example:

Berdych won Paris...and hasnt really doen much after that, Gasquet took out Fed a few years ago and reached to masters series finals...but has yet to do much on the big stage either.

It really sounds like your attaching your allegiance to whoever is doing well at the moment. As you said yourself, it was Nadal before, but he hasnt been doing well for 6 months, so now your moving on to the next best thind, maybe, in Djokovic.

Lastlyl, couldnt you have added your comment to andother of the many Djokovis threads?

Nadal really sucked in the last 6 months winning Indian Wells and reaching QF in the USO and AO :D (better than Djokovic). Djokovic makes a better result than him in Miami and now it´s out of question that he is the next no. 1, it´s ok. Nadal proved his consistency along 2 years, let´s see Djokovic. He has to win a Slam yet.

Well I have to confess that I enjoyed the MS in Miami and one reason was that Federer and Nadal were not in the final stages of the tournament but still the level of play was really high. The rivalry between Nadal and Federer has become really tiring and watching them take every event makes the ATP really boring as far as competition and suspense are concerned.

Last year there were many youngsters trying to emerge out of the lower rankings to reach the higher seeds and lead the way for the next generation of the top 10 players. Monfils proved to be mediocre, Baghdatis too inconsistent, Berdych can only beat Nadal nowadays, Gasquet lacks something and Murray needs more mental strength and stability. The one who proved to have all the shots in the book, serve well when he needs to, not choke in important matches and points, be physically fit and mentally steady is Novak Djokovic. His appearance last year was not very good but he reached QF of RG losing to Nadal, he reached R16 of Wimbledon losing to Ancic, he won Amersfoort and Metz. However, like Federer in 2004, 2007 has started extremely well for him with a title in Adelaide, reached R16 AO losing to Federer, reached SF in Rotterdam losing to Youzhny, reached the final of IW and now won the Miami MS. Watching him play in the last 2-3 weeks I can say that there is a high possibility that he is the one to change the present situation in the ATP and eventually succeed Federer but it's too early to say that for sure.

So in general I can say that we are witnessing the rise of a player who has the potential to dominate the ATP rankings one day and make history but not all players fulfill their potentials completely. Things will clear up as the year progresses and we see how he copes against Nadal and Federer or even better how the rest of the players cope with him :D

Either way now we're into something better in the ATP as the usual scenarios are not that usual anymore and players like Canas and Djokovic showed that they are here to stay and make an impact.

:D

Honestly I think the only thing lacking in djokovics game is experience. Other than that hes a complete player. One of the smartest players on the tour. He constantly changes his tactics and caters them for each opponent. Knows when to go for points and is not afraid to take some calculated risks on the court. He knew he had to come to the net more to beat a pusher like canas and knew he had to hit to nadals backhand more with his forehand. He varies his spin on his forehand very well so he can go for the topspin shot or the flatter forehand like roddicks old one. Plus he shows some emotion which is good for a sport that is starting to have some bland personalities.

Well, he's still young, so he has time, but they have played 4 times and Federer has won each time.

I know you really dislike Fed but that doesn't really make any sense.

Define entertaining because I'm sure A LOT of people find Federer more entertaining than Djokovic.

Federer isnt done yet, not by a long shot. The guy is really still coming into his own. He's only been on top for a few short years. He was dominant in every aspect of the game. He got it in his head that he was invincible, became civilized (anyone seen Rocky III?) Then he gets his butt whooped a few times and it stuns him. I think most agreed that fed didnt look in tip top physical shape his past 2 matches. He must have felt that he didnt need to be cause nobody could beat him. Lets see now if Fed can dig deep and show that he's a true champion by not letting these losses be the start of his decline.

Djokovic has a lot of promise, but the folks here are way too eager to jump on the "next big thing" before it's time. A year ago, the place was abuzz with how Marcos Baghdatis was going to be the next number one. Jeez, just a week ago, a lot of people here were ready to crown Canas. Anyone, including Djokovic, has a long way to go to dethrone Federer. Yeah, it's going to happen one day, but it's only April for crying out loud, and the season is long.

The way things look at this point, Djokovic is the future of tennis. I don't see anyone else this good. And he should still be around in 6-7 years, so he can accomplish a lot.

The same has been said about Nadal and countless others. One day it's Nadal, the other day it's Djokovich. One day Federer is GOAT, the other day he sucks. People here just focus on what happened in the last 2 or 3 tournaments and don't look at the big picture. I'm not saying Djokovich will never win another tournament in his life or that he'll break Sampras GS record; just saying most people don't think before making extremist comments.

I agree. All I'm saying is that Novak is looking real good so far. I never bough all the Canas hype, even if he were to beat Fed again. Nor am I saying that Djokovich is the GOAT, but I think that he's the most promising player within the top 10, all else look like they're on their way down.

This thread is such a stupid over the top piece of crap. That said Djokovic took a big step in his career with his win here. He is definitely a potential future multi-slam winner and perhaps even a potential future #1.

Did he really say that? Hmm, what happened to humility and class? LOL I think the next time Federer plays this guy Fed is gonna send him a message

Edit: I've never even heard Nadal say such a thing even when he beat Fed...wow

He said something against Fed before the AO match against Fed, and he was demolished in that game, although he played very well and tried hard. That is the difference between a legend and a good player. Now Djokovic is just a good player.

If he truly said that then he will never be #1. There will be too many players playing that will try that little bit harder against him.

On the other hand, he probably said something on the lines of he deserved to win the title judging on his performances that week therefore felt he could be #1 in the future ...

Anyway, has anyone got a link of his comment/

A lot of you people say Joker will be a future #1 or will beat Fed. I'm not so sure. Tennis is all about matchups and Joker's aggressive power game..

Don't think it'll match up against Fed. Fed likes to play these kind of players..the clincher is Joker's penchant for drop shotting. It'll be interesting.

Look, Joker does well against grinders..Fed has more trouble with them. But Fed likes aggressive power players like Blake so we'll see.

First of all, he's only number five, not even number two or anything. Secondly, he's NEVER going to be able to do what Roger or Rafa have done.
A( because they are legends.
B( Cuz they are teh only two consistent players on teh ATP tour.
C( Because Roger is tough to beat and Rafa is teh only eligible man to be teh next number one.

Novak Djokovic will definitely be the next number one. After Roger and Rafa retire, that is.

This prediction is premature. He is 0-4 against Federer (3 hard, 1 clay), and
1-3 vs Nadal (2 clay, 2 hard). In fact , fed gave him a severe beatdown in AO, and Rafa just put him to pasture in rome. So if Fed stands in his way in hard, and nadal stops him on clay, and he isnt a good grasscourt player, he may have to wait a long time.

and by the way, he and Nadal have one year age difference, Nadal at the same age Djokovic is now had triple the singles titles that Djokovic has now, if we compare them today the number is quadrupled.

My prediction is Fed will come back to form in the grass and hardcourt seasons, and Nadal will continue to dominate clay. He may have to settle for #3

The idea is that Nadal will still conquer clay with Djokovic doing well on clay and Djokovic will overcome Federer on the hard courts and take his place as number 1 while Nadal remains number 2 after he becomes number 1 for a while. Federer will be number 3 and slowly slowly fall down until he retires. This could happen and it started to look that way in slow steps.

Step 1: Djokovic reaches number 3 and remains there for a while.
Step 2: Federer starts losing points from clay season and hard season.
Step 3: Nadal improves on hard courts a lot.
Step 4: Djokovic starts dominating hard courts with Federer.
Step 5: Djokovic takes many points from Federer and Nadal goes number 1 while Fed goes to number 2 just above Djokovic.
Step 6: Djokovic completely dominates the hard courts and goes to number 2 and eventually number 1 since Nadal can't beat him on the hard courts.

Who knows? It could happen in a couple of years :D

He'll be #3 no doubt. But a lot of bad stuff has to happen to Fed and buttpickingApe for him to get past them. Once they get injured and are out he'll be #1. Whether he'll be a legend or stay there long is a different matter as there's plenty of future Djokovics somewhere.
