If it's true, if he can stick with it, good for him. I'm one who can't stand the guy, but I do recognize that he has talent and potential. If he can turn the worst of his behavior around, yet keep the charming bits, I'd be able to watch him again.

It would be great, if it is true. But he might believe what he is saying even if it is not the case. Time will tell.

Hopefully his first big win will make him thirstier to step up. Seems the big 3 could be an excuse for many tennis players to either step up or give up. He can contend with all 3, but I still can't see him winning a slam. His character is terrible but I find him unbelievably savage and entertaining. He is the Liam Gallagher of tennis.

I believe that Kyrgios is doing this now. However, I dont' think that it'll last very long. I hope that I'm wrong. I'd love to see this guy have a Djokovic-type of approach.

Let’s hope so he is great to watch nobody can deny that but his personality on court and off it is what turns me off him. I don’t mind him being honest in press conferences etc as most of the top players are boring etc but he needs to 100% focus on his tennis and start doing damage at masters and GS

Patiently awaiting for all those that now drag him through the mud for his "personality" to hop on the bandwagon if he starts winning more, explaining how the only thing they didn't like was that he wasn't serious about his tennis. There are quite a few of those folks around here.

Hopefully he can get to djokovic at the majors and put up and shut up. Love to see a 5 set war between them. Grudge match personified! Get it together lil nicky! Do it!

I hope he has, but I'm going to wait and see until he posts better results after more than just 1 500 tourney. If he plays hard like he did in Washington for the rest of the year I'll give him a chance.

He’ll get crushed by Edmund today. He’s not physically ready to play this much tennis.

He could in theory fight through the match even though he’s not able to play his best tennis. If he does that, win or lose, that would be a sign that he has indeed turned over a new leaf.

But he’s Kyrgios. He’ll tank. But he’ll do it in an amusing / controversial way so he can stay in the news.

I don't care for Nick when he says things like an umpire looks like a lumpy potato with arms and legs. But, he's got that bad boy swag appeal like Connors and McEnroe had. Connors and Mac turned popular opinion in their favor, Nicky Boy can too.

Connors and Mac were fighters.

Nicks “bad boy” persona is fundamentally different. He’s a bit Năstase like if anything. Though he’s quite different from him too.

Not quite sure he's anything like anything from previous era's cause to me it seems like he fakes a bunch of **** specifically to get love and adoration from the instagram crowds

Well, Nick said he was working hard to be a better person and tennis player. Right now he chooses when he wants to fight. Remains to be seen, but I hope he can turn it around.

Connors was a relentless p****, and Mac was an entitled brat. Nastase was simply a despicable cheater. What is different with them is that all three had the innate drive to compete in order to succeed. That, however has a completely different background than what Nick has. They had to actually fight for their wealth much more than Nick has and so the connection between their winning and wealth was more direct. They actually realised that they are in a unique position and the only thing separating them from being where they want to be is their competition.

Nick isn't per se a bad character. He is just very typical for his time and a bit spoiled from all the easy money from an early age. Somehow the connection between his winning and the massive wealth is lost on him, because he started to get serious money from an early age, and maybe he also had small expectation when he first started out, so he can't quite visualise what he "leaves on the table" as Roddick put it some time ago. One can very well see it that his shenanigans are mostly related to himself. However, in later years being often confronted by others about complex issues related to his social interactions he started to get sensitive about problems related to justice and so started to look much more seriously on what is going on on the tour, hence his pretty intense criticism of some of the problems there (mostly related to privileges and lack of uniformity of the application of the rules of the sport).

Yes, Nick seems to have developed this unique, independent notion that life isn’t fair. Quite startling, or at least it appears to be to many.

I hope our new messiah can lead us to universal justice. Or at least say something funny on Instagram

He can't win, but at least he will make it entertaining.

He probably thinks its up to him to save tennis after his frustration of watching Novak win Wimbledon again.

Fed's failed MPs were probably his "Fine, I'll do it myself" Thanos moment.

Yeah returning is the least fixable skill in tennis I think.

Without a doubt. I’ve seen and worked with juniors, college players...no bad returner turns into a good one, poor returners rarely turn into average ones, and good and/or great young returners always stay good/great returners and this talent is evident from a very young age. Spindly, lanky Andy Murray at 18 read and controlled pace off of serves as well as anyone. Hewitt, Nalby, Djokovic, Agassi, etc., were all good returners as teens,

The ability to control the pace off of the serve, anticipation, etc., is a talent. My brother is very close in age with me and has always, always been a better returner. Got the same coaches as kids, learned the game the same way, etc., and he’s always been a better returner.

Yeah he turned a corner in Acapulco this year too

Then he got ejected from an event for his antics and did nothing for months
