Fan biases aside, what does the inner tennis analyst inside you expect of the result Rafael Nadal is most likely to have when the 2020 AO, the 1st slam of the decade concludes?
(Last year's AO :- Nadal lost the Final against Djokovic 3-6 2-6 3-6)

Nadal will make Jennika not wash her hands for a long time after he achieves the impossible at the 2020 Australian Open!

Probably lose in the final another time.

If Djokovic is out he should win. But he won’t beat Djokovic in the final. I doubt anyone ever will.

It’s kind of similar to Nadal in RG final – if he’s in this position, it means he’s simply too good for anyone to beat.
Djokovic isn't Nadal's only problem in AO though. 2014, 2017, 2018 showed that.

Of course he can/ should. But he hasn't beaten Fed or Djoko on HC since 2014.
Nadal has won the AO one time in 15 years on the tour and is 33. Even when he didn't have to face one of them, he lost to countless others like Cilic or Stanimal. The odds of him winning it aren't good, but substantially and vastly higher than old man Fed.

I think Nadal wins this time if he avoids both Federer and Djokovic. I don't he will beat them again outside clay.

Perhaps Federer can surprise the world one more time. No one expects him to do it. That's a good starting point.

I dont know. I cant say nothing for sure until Novak is around. I wish Nadal would win Wimbledon next year vs Federer. That would be something. That would be the dream final - or a rematch vs Novak.
The Davis Cup version of Nadal though.. ill take it against anyone. Come on Nadal, come back with even a bigger serve and we will crush them all!!!

If he can bring his DC form and not have to play Novak in the finals I actually think he can win it. He has the next gen’s number, especially in BO5, and realistically speaking, I’m honestly not sure if a 38.5 year old Federer can last in a BO5 on HC’s with Nadal (Wimbledon is the only event where Rog can still hang imo) - hope I’m wrong I’d love to see Fed shock the world again but I certainly wouldn’t even bet a dime on that happening.

Nadal has also never had 2 consecutive seasons with multiple slam wins.
Nadal has never defended non-clay title before 2019. Also in 2019 Nadal broke progression of years between his YE#1.
2008 >> 2010 (2 years) >>> 2013 (3 years) >>>> 2017 (4 years)

Looks like Oldal likes to ruin tendencies.

Wins the title if Djokovic crashes out. Djokovic is gonna have more tougher problems against Thiem/Tsitsipas/Medevedev in a SF or a QF than Nadal but will have it easier vs Nadal ironically. Nadal the other way around lmao

If it's a Nadal vs Djokovic final then another final loss.

For Rafa, every good year is followed by a bad year

This year was good for Rafa, so going off that pattern it's quite possible that he's going to have a bad 2020

Rafa won 18 sets in a row at this year's AO, despite not training for it properly after ankle surgery, so obviously should win the AO in 2020 :)

He'll probably be injured sadly. He hasn't played 3 consecutive HC tournaments in a row without injury since 2017.

Nadal leads the H2H over Federer 3-1 at the Australian Open and the only match that Federer won went to 5 sets, so Rafa can defeat Federer at the AO again.
yes but that was pre Jan 17, their rivalry completely mutated after that match

Not quite at Nadal dominance of FO but agreed overall - Nole very much a heavy favourite....

Bull never loses unless he is injured. NEVER. But this is not a joke. It is the humble (and modest) moral truth, which makes it very serious indeed.

99.9% true, because there is an exception: AO2017. VB began celebrating at 3-1. Then things changed so fast, and both were playing so well, it didn't even occur to us Nadal was injured.

I actually think Rafa will win the AO and in a bigger shock, Djokovic will win RG.

Bizarre I know, but I just have a feeling

In terms of just logic - I think Rafa’s motivation is at an all time high. He can sniff blood in the water from Fed. He wants this AO. You know what type of game he’ll bring. A loss before the SF would be a shock. Meanwhile Djoker has looked vulnerable.

Regarding RG’20 I just think Rafa is due for a surprising setback/upset at RG. There’s really only 2-3 people capable of such an upset but I predict Djoker surprises everyone with his second RG

Nadal should lose in the SF if Federer is in his half. But that's very unlikely to happen because Nadal gets cupcake draw like 95% of the time. So we'll have to wait until the final to see him get destroyed by Djokovic 6-2 6-1 6-2.
