Does Switzerland have a mask requirement? If not what is the issue? I was in a liquor store this morning and nobody was wearing masks.
Isn't that the same line of thinking Djokovic fans use to defend him? It's not illegal to do ____, so he's blameless for doing it anyway?

Not saying these things are equivalent, just the better defense is probably "Djokovic contributed to putting thousands at risk, this is less than a dozen from Roger."

Djokovic is not a real #1 anyway.
Djokovic is only ranked #1 because they didn't play the clay season.
Rafa lost in the Semis of Monte Carlo, Barcelona and Madrid last year, as he was unable to train fully in January (after ankle surgery in December 2018) and took a while to hit top form and confidence.
Rafa would have profited a lot of points in those clay tournaments this year and regained the #1 ranking.
Anyway, Rafa was the year-end-#1 in 2 of the last 3 years.

Djokovic would have gained in IW, Miami, and MC, at least as much as Nadal would gain in MC, Barcelona, and Madrid. Djokovic was on a 20 match win streak, so why would you expect Nadal to suddenly go 5-0 in clay tournaments (which he's never done before) after losing the AO quarterfinals and to Goffin at the ATP Cup? Moreover, Thiem underperformed on clay last year so I'd expect him to steal a clay tournament or two.

Plus, if we could just discount someone being #1 just because someone else was YE#1 for the last 2/3 years, Nadal would never have been #1 in 2008 (Federer 05, 06, 07) or 2010 (Federer 07, 09) or 2013 (Djokovic 11, 12) or 2017 (Djokovic 14, 15).

Your bias is showing.

If more people listened to Djokovic, the coronavirus hype would be over. 98% of people under 50 have no symptoms or mild symptoms when infected with Coronavirus. 99.87% of people under 50 don’t die. The ones who do suffer from chronic health conditions and would likely die in the next year from something else. If all the people under 50 got coronavirus, they will have antibodies and no longer be able to spread it. Keep immunocompromised and the elderly in lockdown (voluntarily) and let everyone lives their lives.

This is false. Not only is it false, but it is dangerous.

Let us be clear: Coronavirus can cause permanent lung/ respiratory system damage to people who contract it. Your arbitrary statistic of over 50 or under 50 does not matter, when in some countries like the United States, nearly 4 percent of confirmed cases lead to deaths.

A person who is asymptomatic can spread it to others who are at a higher risk of dying. That is how fast the transmission cycle of the virus is. Nearly 4 percent, or 1/25 people in the United States have chronic bronchitis. It is likely that if we went back to life as normal, most of those people would be infected and die. Chronic Bronchitis is just one of many respiratory illnesses.

Are you sure we shouldn't be shaming everyone that leaves their home, goes to work, exercises, socializes, and doesn't wear underwear on their face? That seems more logical to me.
You wear underwear on your face?

Recently a famous manager in the music business in Serbia died from Covid and he was 41. Not sure what to think anymore to be honest.

It's not that young people can't die of the novel coronavirus, it's that they are less or not much more likely to die from getting it than dying from influenza if they get that. People of all ages die from influenza. For those older or the many with certain medical conditions (which would include me), the coronavirus is many times more deadly than seasonal flu.

Interestingly, the Asian Flu in the 1950's, which killed over 116,000 people in the U.S. (with less than 1/2 the current population back then), disproportionately targeted young people. People past a certain age seemed to be immune to it. [Possible that there was a similar flu over 50 years earlier.]

I’m over it at this point, let people do what they want. I’m just going to where my mask where I need to and then take it off when I don’t. And plus wearetennis is getting sassy over defending a nobody.

Is that what a mouth mask makes you think?

Unfortunately tho, your perverted thinking is not hilarious but dangerous.

You clearly are one of those super spreader cretins who are the root of all the vulnerable people who are dying everywhere — they are dying because of selfish people like you, people who don't want to protect others (because lest ye forget, wearing a mask is primarily a selfless act to protect not yourself but others around you — an ordinary mask primarily reduces the spread of air coming out of your breath rather than the other way around (unless you wear N95 mask in which case the protection works both ways). In other words, we wear a mask out of our desire to care, out of adult civic duty to protect others, particularly the vulnerable among society.

And reciprocally it is others wearing a mask that are supposed to protect you in case it is you who are vulnerable. Mask wearing is a fundamentally social thing we do. Because we're not supposed to be arseholes who kill vulnerable people around us.

How long do you plan on wearing your mask? Being that there are other viruses/germs that are transmissible through the air, will this be something you continue to practice from here on out?

Many of the recent cases here have been in the 20 - 44 year age group, and though they don't die, apparently they sick enough that they are being admitted into hospitals and taking up resources.

zagor, people have to think globally. Of course there are people who are 20, super healthy and die from covid (reputedly at least). We can't take the exceptions of exceptions and put it as a rule. The reality is that the vast majority of people have zero symptoms. The vast majority of those who show any symptons only show minor symptoms like a cough and a fration of them die, 99% of which are often both old and sick.

The reality is, right now everyone has to waste their lives away because people who would probably die anyway can die.

I get what you're saying man but still, it depends where you live too. Hospitals in my country right now are overbooked and there's not enough respirators to go around. Some of us also have older family members we're used to helping out and visiting.

Sweden tried herd immunity (as far as I know) and maybe that's the way, if your hospitals can shoulder that burden, in my country they can't (mainly because of the incompetent government).

Of course, we can't all go on like this forever, life has to return to some semblance of normal eventually.

World no.4 and arguably the Goat hanging out with some fans few days ago..

And Federer did nothing wrong here. The real problem are the people who desperately want to be the "smart" ones or to be "right" (The same type which thinks you can judge everything objectively. Some even think that the mask is protecting them). They determined their values as correct ones and started pushing them onto others beliving that all of their idols think the same. How many times have I heard "Federer and Nadal would have never done that" regarding not following optional social distancing before actually coming with some proof. Everyone is different and has different opinions and as grown adults we should be able to respect that. Timea's statement looks like she's weeks or months late in the discussion, yet she still made a comment and that's a big no no in my book which gives her a small promotion from my "I don't care" to "hopefully she'll lose" category.

Here you go again, being concerned only with yourself

Being self centred and concerned only with yourself and what you gets out of it — or in this case, when you get out of this situation. You are a perfect demonstration of how the "me me me" way of thinking literally leads to death, literally kills people.

Who gives a rat's arse when this will end? Why's that so important? For what it's worth, if you have been following developments you would have known this will only last a few months. After that, some sort of vaccines will be available and all this restriction will largely be lifted (depending on the speed of distribution of vaccines). After that, you may continue to wear maskes but it will no longer be strongly recommended and forced. That's how life works in Asia. They've been wearing masks for decades and continued to thrive in the mean time. But you are unable to see all this evidence and fact — cuz your head is buried in your navel and only capable of self-vision.

What are you talking about? We must protect the 93-year old gramdmas with 10 exisiting diseases from the egoistic 20 something year olds, so we should lock everyone down so that she lives 10 days longer.

What an absolute waste of life FOR EVERYBODY. Everyone who's old, sick or scared should sit at home and have the governments help them deliver food, checking in on their healths etc. and let the remaining 99% live their lives normally. This lockdown + restrictions is so egoistic because esentially the 1% is dictating the other 99% to stay at home, wash their hands every 10 seconds and wear the stupid masks which aren't worth S. This is a freaking joke.

What folks need to realize is we must protect our older citizens. Stop for a minute, and imagine a world in which the over 50 population was knocked off one by one because we decided to live as if coronavirus doesn't exist. Think of the professors, leaders of the country, industry leaders, mentors, and, yes, tournament directors that could be lost if no action were taken. Remember, today's world only exists because our life span increased over the last century. Think carefully. Today's world wouldn't be possible if we only lived to be 35, or even 40. Those older people are pillars of knowledge that keep the under 35 population under control and manage the innovations of the youth. So, yes, it is absolutely imperative that the older population be protected. Think of it as protecting older trees in a forest fire. And it also makes sense that they are the ones spear heading these restrictions because they are wiser and posses the patience of older age. Sacrifice for the short term to conquer in the long term.
