I think that is how most people feel once they are away from the competitive nature of it all. I really dont see Fed and Djoker having such disdain for each other after they retire either.
I want to see all three of them hanging out together when they retire.

Anyway, I think that we have derailed this poor thread. We can defend the Gold Medal this year.

Roddick tried his version of the chip/charge but got burnt by the surprise 2nd serve/volley, that's all that point is lol. It's just made to look worse because Roddick tumbled at the end lol
Roddick's volleys were just all around terrible. Not only the timing, not only the technique, he didn't get the basics of how to approach and where to stand at the net. On a fundamental level he was not a volleyer

Can you send a link?

Machan, I wish I had saved the link. It was a New York times article that St Petros posted here some months ago. He's not here anymore so I don't know how to get a hold of him. I can run a search on duckduckgo.com and see if it comes up. Of course, I read about it in the days after the final (2006 US Open) but hoped there'd be more websites carrying it.

The point of that quote was that he wasn't going to let himself be discouraged by the losses and go away. Fed kept kicking his ass but he kept showing up for more.

Good point and this may be one of those things people see from different angles. To me it showed the mentality of a man resigned to being repeatedly beaten but I can understand your point of view.

I think in hindsight we all know there's a decent chance that was what he was feeling inside. I'm just pointing out that's not what he was trying to convey with the quote.

The problem for Roddick is he fears Fred too much. He doesn't even try to hide that defeated mindset.

But who cares? He has something Big 3 can only dream of.

A place in Feddy's warm heart

There used to be a highlights package "The best set Andy Roddick ever played" which was about this set, can't find it anymore though. Also the passing shot Arod hits at 4:04 is a shot I don't think any next genners could pull off.
I was looking for that one, actually. But it's not up on YT anymore I think.

Matches aren't won off one set though...

Great now I just saw the net cord Fed hit in the game he broke back in the 3rd set.

20 Slams of pure unadulterated luck.
