Cross stringing tool - what do you think?

Does this eliminate the need for clamping?

By the way, is that a Teletubby doing the stringing?

Seems a pretty slow way to string crosses! I wouldn't buy one!

Indeed Pink floyd - Shine on you crazy diamond, and what great song!:)

The Stringway Dutch website has it priced at 60 Euros. Not bad.

I guess the main benefits would be:

1. Save time for novice stringers like myself.

2. Eliminate friction burn from the crosses rubbing against the mains when pulling (no need for waxing, etc).

I still can't get over the Teletubby, though.

Come to think of it, I am actually not sure whether it accomplishes #2. Does anyone know?

Putting that devise in there, threading it through, then moving it out of the way to tension, then repositioning it for the next cross, you should be able to weave it by hand much more faster, and efficient.
Plus some racquets have 16 mains, others 18 mains to weave, along with the top and bottom crosses being shorter,(notice the demo did not even start the crosses on the 1st cross, and I'msure there is a reason),and using and fitting this tool in place,it seems to me that this is one big gimmick as far as I am concerned. Any respectable stringer could do much better than this gimmick, and use the money for something else like a cold beer after the job!
If you learn to string properly there is no worry about friction burn anyways, after all who even uses wax anyways.Fanning your crosses prevents any friction burns even with thin delicate multis. or nat.gut strings. This item is a joke!
The ads tool is about as great as the models fashion choice!!It certainly does not look like a professional stringer is using it, and not even installing the crosses in proper order.Their marketing is as much a joke as the product! It seems if they want to market a piece of junk, then they should have at least had a professional Voluptuous model dressed a little more revealing to do the stringing if they are not going to use a professional stringer. That way it would have looked a little more interesting.Bottom line I would not waist your money on this junk.

This looks like a tool for beginners.

No it is not. Beginners should be taught proper technique right from the start so no bad habits. Like I said above this is a worthless piece of sh*t. And the video is cheap as well.Just look at the stringer, as I don't believe that is even a real stringer, not even installing them in order or tensioning them. And no fashion awards here as well.

Here's what the English website for Stringway says:

MK2 Crossstringing tool.

NEW HD and LD cross stringing tool:
A unit for high density (HD) and one for low density (LD) string patterns.

Very durable aluminum tools.
* Weaving goes quicker and the speed is the same for nylon, gut and poly strings.
* Weaving high density patterns goes as quick as weaving low density patterns.
* Pulling the string through is quicker, without friction.
* Minimum chance of mis-weaves.
* No danger of “burning” the string.
* Weaving goes more relaxed, so it is easier to string more racquets without interruption.

HD unit: Distance between 14 main strings is up to 152 mm
LD unit: Distance between 14 main strings is bigger than 152 mm

Do you know of any online videos that show how to weave crosses efficiently (i.e., how you put two fingers together and sort of glide the string across the mains effortlessly)?

I have seen YULittle's video on Weaving Crosses but he doesn't get into explaining that method. Apparently he used to have a video on it but it is no longer there for some reason?

LOL Minimum chance of mis-weaves. If I were to buy a product that would help me weave I would hope that I would not get any mis-weaves.

My understanding is that the device does not give you a misweave, but since it is still up to the stringer to make the very first weave on each cross, the device does not entirely eliminate the chance for misweaves.

Actually it just takes time and stringing a good # of racquets to get efficient at weaving.Videos are nice to show different techniques like YULtil did, but it takes stringing a good # of racquets to get proficient at weaving quickly. You will get the hang of it in time.
But seriously do not waist you $ on this gimmick. Your $ would be much better spent on your beverage of choice after your stringing job.Just keep on stringing and weaving will get easier.

I only string one or two frames a month (my own). So it is very hard for me to get any practice.

To be honest, my very first stringing job took me about 3 hours. Now I am down to about 1-1/2 hours on my drop-weight.

But the big time wasters for me are cross-weaving and tensioning (the automatic drop-weights from Laserfibre and Stringway are quite tempting at this point).

So look at it this way. Your time has been cut in 1/2 already. and only stringing 1-2 /month is not many.It will take some time, be patient. I strung a lot many years back, I had an old automatic type drop weight(serrano), and never strung one ahead for crosses like is done now. I strung a great # back then, and was very fast. I stopped stringing as well as playing tennis for34 years .Started playing again and stringing for 1&1/2 years now. Stringing came back real quick.I wish my hitting did as well. But I do have a great electronic machine now, with a great mounting system, and fixed swivel clamp bases, and stringing is a pleasure now.If you know that you will be stringing for some time, it is always best to get as much machine as you can afford, and not spend it on gimmicks like this tool. You will get better with time, don't worry.

Guys - i just got an email off Stringway. The email contains a document which has a pic of the aluminium cross stringer and all the benefits of the tool. It also explains the 2 versions of the tool they have and shows the introductory offer they are selling the tool at up until 20th of February (10 days). If anyone wants the document, give me a quick pm and ill happily send it to you.

They also told me if I "want to receive any more information or a newsletter about the tools contact Alpha Tennis in the US info@alphatennis.com or Stringway outside the US info@stringway-nl.com"

Just recieved these pics. The tool is made out of Aluminuim rather than the material in the video

What's up with the bottom picture?

Each hole on the device is bunching up 2 mains together. That's gotta loosen up the mains a little, don't you think? And why is it so different from the photo on top?

You are correct. They don't seem to market their product very well. It certainly does not look like the stringer is really a stringer at all, certainly not installing the crosses in order, and like I said, if not a pro. stringer, it should have been a Voluptuous model dressed a little more revealing to do the stringing , at least would have been more interesting. Looks like a worthless item to me.

Babolat had a similar device that only worked on certain(Bab) racquets called P.A.S.S. The stringers that need it cannot afford it, those that have the budget can weave rings around it.

Your comment certainly makes good sense!

There is a better-produced video of the actual MK2 device Stringways sells being used here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjTYW3947JM

Why Stringway chooses to continue displaying the old video of a device they don't even sell on their website is kind of a mystery though.

Now I just have to decide if I hate weaving crosses enough to justify the ~$155. It is a close call.

Beernutz, i copied this from the other thread.
LOL I received the video from SW a long time ago and actually put the video on my own youtube account, just to share with everyone. I'll take it down as you suggested
