Plantar Fascitis-- Need shoes with Very good ARCH support/ Steroids ?

Cindi, do you think this shot will cure me ? My doctor told me that sometimes this One shot will cure the problem and some patients never come back. I am hoping this is the case. but otherwise i will dish out some bucks for that insole.

I have no idea. I never considered having a shot. I am not a fan of that sort of intervention, especially when more conservative measures (e.g. custom insoles) have not been tried.

Good luck. I hope it works.

DISASTER. I am not sure What went wrong but i woke up after few hours of sleeping and my foot felt 50 X worse than it did before..... I can't even take a step without feeling like someone put a sledge hammer on it. I am going to call my doctor as soon as they open up.......Is this normal ?? what is going on here ??:confused:

You blocked the pain now wonder if you injured your foot further? Go see the Dr.

Now other posters are telling me that it is supposed to be sore for few days after the shot. and the soreness should go away and my feet should be like 18 year olds......

Had three cortisone shots through the side of the heel for plantar fasciaitis. A bit sore but definitely not worse than the untreated arch before the shot. Btw, did you get your foot wrapped too?

Oh and the Foot is still holding up...................cross your fingers...

Glad to hear your plantar fasciitis finally seems to be better. I assume you have been doing plenty of work to stay in shape as all sorts of new injuries can pop up after a lay off. I see where Mikeler just posted he suffered a calf injury after being out for a long time with golfer's elbow, and this is all too common.

No i have been playing with Pain all this time. I couldn't lay off, too Addicted to Tennis. I would take a very strong Motrin before the match and just Play. I was wondering why i was sucking for last 5 month. but with the Steroid shot, i am almost pain free and playing really well for last 3 weeks...........:):)

Good that the shot worked for you. Be careful about going from 0-60. One of my knee docs cautioned me about this after my first surgery. He said a big chunk of his business is people coming in for a secondary injury after doing too much too quickly after a layoff.

Brent Abel over at Webtennis recommends those ankle strap things as a kind of quick and dirty taping replacement. Anyone have any luck with that? Obviously not all ankle straps would work but the kind with actually pulls up on your foot.

Taping is about the only thing that has ever given me any relief and I find it hard to do myself - as even if I tape it right it can be too tight..

Once again, i had not had a layoff. I have been playing with Pain all this time. Call me crazy, masochist,,,,whatever. but i have been really sucky due to pain however. Teams that know me, it doesn't matter but the few teams that doesn't know me now think I suck.... i have to prove them wrong in next few month...:)

I'm glad it worked for you, Fedace. I'm glad my orthotics worked for me and Topaz's deep tissue thingie worked for her. Different strokes . . . .

If you have been told that your PF is "really bad", you should consider custom orthotics. I'm a PT in Orange County and we use a company called "Biomechanical Services" to help us with our custom orthotics. (We do the casting in our office then send the casts to them. They make the orthotics). I recommend calling them and asking who in the San Diego area is their best customer. Just don't have the surgery! Find a PT who really knows feet and give that a shot. Good luck!

Custom orthotics are Hard,, aren't they ? do they have cushioning ?

Just saw this today. I'm having some issues in my right heel. I just got some Orange Superfeet but haven't had a chance to try them on the court yet.

The Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy looks interesting as well as the Dry Needle. I had heard of the dry needle, but don't think I'd heard of the other...unless this is just a fancy name for ultrasound which it may very well be.

This seemed like the thread to put it in rather than starting a new one.

So, once again, as usual, different cures for the "same" ailment in different players.
Some need pure cushioning.
Some need support.
Some need to exersise and work the muscles.
Some need rest.
Some need a cortizone shot.
All can work, for some players.
And each probably will not work for all players.

So true.
My g/f's dad weighs 260lbs., at only 5'9". His flat feet have been killing him all his life, but really got bad after he turned 64.
I'm 5'11", 150 lbs., have much flatter feet than him, my feet have been bugging me for the last 40 years, but I still play tennis, bike, surf, and windsurf.
Weight does matter, but so does living with it, accepting the pain is part of life, and go on with your sports.

Why didn't you tell that to TroyMurphy, a former co first round pick of the GoldenStateWarriors? He has that problem starting in college, carried over to the pros, and while still a pro level power forward, his game is nothing like it was his first 3 years with the Warriors. He just can't run from PF.
