While the match was great the OP does have a point in the fact that Roger's and Rafa's games contrast more, even though they are both baseliners.

I watched the end. I found it quite boring mostly because delpotro seemed tired and didn't hit too much of the winners he can hit. But maybe that was only in the end.

better than any match fed vs nadal

Really? Even WB 07',WB 08'? Rome 06'? Miami 04' and 05'? AO 09'? Those are just a few of the classic matches they have had and they were high quality matches, with more variation that today's match, which was great because it was close but you have to admit it had little variation. I watched this with my dad(who is still nostalgic after 70's and 80's players) and while we both enjoyed the match,we wouldn't mind a dropshot, slice, lob once in a while. These 2 guys were terrific off both sides and their games can be summarised like this: good servers, terrific ballbashers.

Boring? You must have missed half the match! Did you see DelPo hit the one handed down the line passing shot from outside the doubles alley? Del Potro played amazingly smart after he lost a nervous first set tie-breaker. He knew all he really had to do was bang big serves when it counts, than play deep penetrating balls until soderling missed, even though soderling was red hot at times, sooner or later he would start to miss. Just like how he beat FEDERER at the US Open. Boring? I think not. Smart Tennis.

He's gonna have to lift his game to beat Davydenko, because davydenko will just run Del Potro around the court tediously if he tries the same game style.
Del Po in three.

Sod and DP are what the future looks like. Big men, huge serves, solid 2-handed backhands, and imposing presence on court. Small guys like Nadal and Federer will fade away.

Wtf, that was awesome to watch! Yeah, lets watch nadal stand at the baseline and loop shots in?

...and that´s what they said after Safin beat Pete at the USO 2000. The future of tennis has arrived.

I say: We´ll see. The pot seldom boils while being watched;)

ROFL. If Fed and Nadal are small, what does that make Davydenko? At 5'10'' 154 lbs; a Midget???? Davy has the best groundstrokes in the world. Doesn't seem to phase him. Its all relevant, if you can hit the ball cleanly it really dont matter how tall you are, except on the serve, which is countered by extremely clean return of serve (groundstrokes). Tennis is a sport of hitting the ball over the net more than the other guy, not throwing down on a hoop thats 10 feet tall.

Soderling's problem this match was that he was being too much of a WTA mindless ball basher. Del Potro played most rallies from ten feet behind the baseline, yet Soderling refused to try drop shots or slices to bring Del Potro forward. As for Del Potro being boring, I disagree. He has so much much firepower and desire to win. Plus, unlike Murray, he has tact. What I can't stand about Del Potro is the way he looks like he's agonizing after every point: grabbing his knees after missed returns, etc. That's not very fun to watch.

If it was so boring to you, I hope you had the sense to turn off the TV and do something you find less boring. Sleeping, maybe.

yes. Whats fun about watching nadal pick his butt for 1 min between the games and then watch him run around like a headless chicken and lob balls back to the opponent hoping for chokes?

Yes heaven help us if Soderling/Del Potro is the future of tennis. Give me Federer, Nadal, Nole any day over that nuclear ball bashing.

Whatever, I think Nadal dominated 2007 Indian Wells with very aggressive tennis. Same thing in 2009 Australian Open.

If that's your understanding of Nadal's tennis then so be it... I have wasted way too much time explaining the good Nadal does for the sport and something tells me people don't go to his matches to watch him"pick his butt for 1 min, then watch him run around like a headless chicken and lob balls back to the opponent" but for his tennis skills, which admittedly have pretty much gone missing in the last months. But whatever, haters will be haterd.

Also I don't think you're understanding what I am saying. Federer/Nadal is a contrast in styles, lefty versus righty, flatter strokes versus spinny strokes, best attacker versus best defender,Nadal baseline game while Fed is an all-courter,Nadal plays a physical game while Fed is more elegant. These are contrasting styles of play while Soderling and DelPo play the same.

I loved their match yesterday but like I said, most of the time it was just ballbashing. Terrific ballbashing, solid off both sides and on the serve but I felt a bit bored at times probably because their games are the same.

In the end nadal is just a glorified pusher. But I understand your point. Federer can produce great matches. I still appreciate a game with TWO attackers more than a game with a time-wasting butt-picking pusher. Did you see how fast JM and Sod played that long of a match? With NADAL in the game we would still be waiting for him to finish rectoscoping himself.

These players are so boring that I am even foregoing my tickets to the final today given how long it takes to get there and all...

If you're going to comment at least watch the game, back to back service games broken in the 3rd set.

Maybe you should should stick to shoot em up vid games... more exciting.

Don't speak nonsense,Nadal is no pusher. At his best his game rellies on pounding opponent's BH relentessly until he coughs up a short ball for Nadal to attack so in a way he's forcing the issue not just defending although when the need arises his transition from defense to offense is one of the best I've seen,he can do amazing stuff on the run.Yeah lately,he's playing very defensively, hitting short all the time and slicing that BH so he's not that entertaining to watch but that's not the way it was before.

As for Fed-Nadal matches,90% of their clay matches are crap(a few exceptions like Rome but that's about it),HC matches were OK so far(although they only played once in the HC slam whic really isn't much given how long their rivalry is and that there are 2 HC slams each year)and at Wimbledon rivalry is at it's best.
