Genesis Black Magic Vs. Pro Supex Big Ace?

Which of these two strings do you prefer and why?
And what about Spin X vs. Blue Gear
Are there any strings that you like more than these two in the same price range?

The Pro Supex is superior in both cases. Black Magic is just a fairly decent string, while Big Ace is outstanding. Blue Gear and Kirschbaum Spiky Shark are second to none when it comes to spin production. I prefer the KSS out of all of the choices.

SpinX has much more feel and way better tension maintenance than Blue Gear. The ball pocketing on SpinX is great and so is the spin.

If i'm a baseline player who hits with a good amount of topspin and pace which string would you recommend?

I prefer SpinX to the others listed. It's what I am using right now and is getting great reviews on here. The pocketing feel is addicting and generating spin is very easy.

Completely wrong. Black magic and Spin X are heads and tails better than big ace and blue gear. Black magic has a ton of feel and power. It has much better tension maitanence and even better spin potential. Big ace felt dead from the start.

Spin X is also a lot better. It has more spin and pockets the ball better. It has more power and better tension maitanence. Genesis is so much better than pro supex

What tension are you using on your typhoon and are you trying it out in your ytpp? I've got mine at 54/52 and it's too low.

I have it at 23/21 (roughly 50/48 lbs). I've always liked low tensions and I thought it was pretty good. I played two sets with my dad yesterday and thought it was ok then I played two sets against a solid player in a tournament (mens open) and I liked it better. It definetly plays better once it settles in. I'll have to try spin x on my ytpp to see if i like it more since it's cheaper in a reel. And yea, im using typhoon in my pro

I second that. Black Magic has much better tension maintenance than Big Ace. Big Ace just get extremely mushy when it start to die.

I haven't hit enough with Spin X so I cannot comment on that.

i agree here. if your looking for spin, pro supex big ace is the way to go.

What is the term ball pocket mean>?

It feels like the ball sinks into the string bed a bit and then rockets off. Definitely not a mushy feeling though. MSV had no pocketing in my opinion and felt mushy so there is a difference. I think the pocketing effect is due to the balls slightly longer dwell time on the string bed. Which is why it feels more pronounced, to me, at lower tensions. Gut does it the best but SpinX and Typhoon both pocket the ball very well. It's a very comfortable feeling as well.

I have played big ace for over a year and really liked it. It was the best string I had played to date. But I just got the free sample of Typhoon and I was blown away by it. Typhoon has better feel, more power, and a lot more spin. I have hit with it 3 times now and I can't believe how good the string is. The spin is very good and I can hit all out and the ball stays in the court. The only question now is how good is the tension maintenance. So far I have not notice any major loss in tension so hopefully it will not be an issue.

I think, that since genesis-tennis.com, prosupexusa.com, and the depot of tennis are all owned by the same person, Black Magic is Big Ace Revo. I also think SpinX is Blue Gear Ultimatum Spin. Just a hunch.

Black Magic is a mediocre string. There is nothing special about it. There is a reason why when people ask what the best value poly is for the money that nearly every answer is PS Big Ace. Not once do you see Black Magic in there and it I believe costs even less. The string is nothing special, nothing special at all.

If you honestly think that Spin X produces more spin than Blue Gear, then you must hit flat with a continental forehand. I've never heard such garbage in my life. The two strings I mentioned, Blue Gear and Spiky Shark, are the best spin strings money can buy. No debate, period. The ratings do not lie.

Thanks for your opinion.
You can argue black magic vs. big ace all day long and I won't care. I feel big ace is better, and that's that. It's my opinion, OP can take it or leave it.

When it comes to spin strings, however, it stops being my opinion and starts being about an entire forum's opinion. Having played with, and actually owning reels of all three (SpinX, Spiky Shark and Blue Gear), the latter two are in a league of their own as far as spin production goes. The link I posted verified that. I'm not saying SpinX is a bad string, in fact it's pretty damn good (someone I string for uses full beds of it exclusively which is why I have a reel). But if you're wanting to make fuzz-shredding spin, SpinX isn't even close to Blue Gear or Spiky Shark.

The link you posted was a bunch of peoples opinions that were all under the placebo effect. Probably a bunch of 14 year old kids wielding Babolats whipping their arms around trying to generate spin and coming on here ranting ecstatically about how the gears on Blue Gear provide so much spin.

That is far from proof. Give me data that shows, given the same variables (racquet, tension, weather, stroke speed....etc), blue gear and spiky shark provide more spin than any other string.

With all due respect, now you're just sounding childish.

Great. Your only 'proof' that blue gear produces more spin is 12 peoples opinion on stringforum. I never said it does not produce the most spin. I don't care if it does or doesn't. But have some real proof to back up your claim.

Unless you're some scientist who studies spin produced by various tennis strings, then you're simply begging the question in a circle in order to win the argument. Forty one people agree with what I'm saying, and that's a pretty strong base of testimonials.

SpinX is also on the same site, so you can use that for your "baseline" or "controlled" comparison. I'll let you look up the reviews yourself.

In either case, there is no one right answer to anything, so I'll leave it at that.

To help the OP, if you're looking for a combination of the two aspects, maybe try Signum Pro Poly Plaxma HEXtreme. It's a great spin string, has nice feel, doesn't have the pocketing that SpinX does, but its tension maintenance is the best I've ever found.

41 people! Great sample! 5 people have given their review of SpinX. Only 7 more to go to reach the huge sample of 12 that proves Blue Gear is the ultimate spin machine.

You clearly need to win this argument for some reason so fine: SpinX is better than Blue Gear.

Unlike you, however, I own all three strings that I'm discussing and have used them in different racquets and different tensions.

I don't care what you think is the better string. I've tried Blue Gear. There is a reason I didn't buy more of it.

Go go go Gadget flamefest...

I'm not taking either side on this one, but Pvaud you stated your opinion as a fact which often gets frequent forum posters worked up to target you. You have quite a few posts man, you should know by now that posts like this create flamefests.

How do Mantis and Solinco Strings compare?
Is Pro Supex popular mostly because it is cheap?
Mantis and Solinco are fairly cheap too so how do they compare to Genesis?
Which brand do you prefer?
Thanks

Agree with this post, other than Big Ace feeling dead from start.

IMO, BM is a much better string than the big ace for the following reasons:

  1. livelier
  2. crisper
  3. **way** better tension maintenance
  4. just as good pop
  5. just as good spin
A few other things to consider:

Black strings are not very well like/perceived by playtesters, although this norm is turning around with more and more black strings re-entering the market (black code, black magic, rpm blast, etc).

Black Magic is relatively new compared to a string like Big Ace, which already has a histroy and loyal fan following. Big Ace is a very good string, just very different feeling than Black Magic.

If you want softer, go with big ace. crisper/livelier, go with black Magic.

BM nowhere near as good as BAM for this player. that said, favoring SpinX 17 silver at the moment and really liking the Solinco Barbwire.
