I remember those matches too, in 2008 at Toronto and the Masters Cup. Although Federer wasn't near his best, he still looked like he'd win both of those matches comfortably and ended up flat on his face both times. He's still not beaten Simon, remarkably.
1) Simon was at his peak back then. He also beat Nadal indoors and nearly beat Murray in the final of the same event. Simon hasn't done anything since.
Federer also lost for the first time to Karlovic and Blake that summer, but went on to win the US Open. Those matches dont prove anything. If you still think that, you didn't see him play last night/this morning (and win the Sydney championship, in two sets).
I remember those two matches, and Roger was shanking forehands and playing with no focus. Simon is playing fast, and aggressively.
I'm thrilled that Roger and Coach Paul appear to have been working hard this week and pleased with their progress. But I don't think Roger can afford to let his concentration lapse for a second.
Unlike Rafa fans, ****s do not make excuses for Fed's losses.
The-Champ, I didnt make any excuses. I am also not a "****". Nadal lost his last match to Garcia-Lopez. Would you say the same result is likely if they played in a Major tournament? It was great win for Garcia-Lopez, but still it doesnt prove anything about whether the guy can beat Nadal at a big tournament. That was my point.
simon will drink his blood

Dude must be high LOL !!! ^^^^^ Simon has a 40% chance at winning. I remember in 08 where Simon beat Rafa,Murray,Novak,Federer. He also knocked federer out at the WTF that same year
Federer could not have drawn a worse player for his second round.
Simon is Fast and Roger hates slow balls. so this one should be close. Roger actually does better with Big fast flat type of balls coming at him like from Berdy or robin. Federer hates creating his own pace off slow no pace nerf balls like from Simon.
Simon also has the ability to hit hard and flat as well (I think he's taken a page out of Rafa's playbook with Federer). His serve has also improved since he played Federer a couple of years ago.
Simon has the type of game that can hurt Federer. He's got an excellent serve, moves extremely well, can hit deep loopy balls and possesses excellent defense. In fact, he's almost like a mini-Djokovic.
I predict Fed will have his hands full with Simon.
Simon is Poor man's Andy Murray.
I remember both matches Federer lost to Simon, he was shanking an incredible number of forehands, played just about as miserably as he can whilst Simon was enjoying the time of his life.
No such thing will happen again. I'd be shocked if Federer lost a set to Simon this time, I'd be surprised if one of the set went to a tie-break
Simon won't even get past the first round.
Simon is Poor man's Andy Murray.
He's closer to Djokovic, IMO
Simon is Poor man's Andy Murray.
1)
3) Its a best of 5 match, and a slam, and its Roger at a slam. Unless your name is Nadal your chances aren't very high.
Or Soderling, or Berdych, or Djokovic...
NadalAgassi: I don't know but Fed has been more vulnerable than usual in slams lately. Age will affect him in best of 5 more than in best of 3. Even if he does well at AO, the general trend we observed last year is likely to continue but we'll see.

I watched the sydney final today and Simon had his hands full against Troicki. He played good tennis but I didnt see anything from Simon that was extraordinary and indicative of a big AO run.
He didn't look very hot when Federer sent him packing 6-2 6-2 in Doha.Troicki is one of the hottest players on tour right now, winning the DC for Serbia. He's also just attained a career high ranking of #26. Simon beat Troicki in straight sets.
He also beat Gulbis (#20) in straight sets, bagelling him in 16 minutes in the second.

In regards to todays match, sure it was a straight set win but it wasn't a dominant performance at all was it? 7-5 7-6 with Troicki blowing lots and lots of opportunities, which is of course, very typical of him.
My point is he's playing much better than his current ranking (#34) suggests. He straight-setted both the #20 and #26 players back to back.
He's also a nightmare matchup for Federer as the 2-0 H2H suggests
No objections from me on that one, amigo.
Hopefully, Federer can acquire ambition rather than fear from the thought of that 0-2 h2h.That 0-2 H2H will also be on Fed's mind before and during the match.
