So what's so new and special about the Prestige S?? Just a lighter Prestige Pro (it's 16x19 right).

I remember you said it had some good power and plow, but how does it fare against some heavy artillery?

Also, even if you have to bribe somebody, for Gads sake, get your hands on the box beam (aka, the Federo-Rocher staff). As happy as I am with the 6.1's. the bare minimum specs of the 95 sound so appealing, finally a way of perfectly matching two Wilson's.

Cheers

The 'For Gads sake' line killed me.

As for the S,it is a lighter Pro, but unlike the YT MP and Pro this one felt a lot more plush, pockety, not so tinny. I mean, I don't think it'll really register for a lot of us here who love the 6.1s, etc, but it's one of the better sticks out there in the lighter range at 11.2-3. Granted, I never faced HEAVY shots coming from the other way bc I only played the one night against one of my lighter-hitting buddies, but it was enough of a hit to see that it's a solid new offering. Dislikes: head grip shape just annoys me, though I do credit them a lot for extending the grip length to make two-handers more comfy. And 2) unlike the heavier Prestige offerings, this one didn't pummel serves. Still, a good stick, but lacking the feel and performance of my PKs for sure.

Called The local, havent received the PS 95 or 100 yet but they do have the 90. Will drop by in a couple hours and hope for a Christmas miracle, otherwise I may end up taking the 6.1 95 out of they have it in. But hoping for PS 95 and Juice Pro.

Meanwhile I'm continuing my foray into Cortex™ technology with the Pure Drive GT. Today: a fresh full bed of Alu Power, 22kg. Having never played a Lux string before I have to say most of the claims are true. Fairly powerful, crisp, nice spin, control defined. And while it's certainly not the most comfortable poly in the world it's not half bad either. On the other hand I'm now 95% sure that I'll just stick with VS. Somehow I always end up with a full gut as it seems to work best for my game and is, given that I rarely break strings, a fairly economical option. A PD with gut is just so nice for the 80% rally ball. Current setup: stock with 2.5g under the bumper to make it a bit less headlight and up the SW to PD+ level (I stole that from Chris' review), Syntec grip, Tourna overgrip and Custom Damp with insert.

Trivia time: contrary to popular belief the Pure Drive doesn't seem to be widely-used around here nowadays, at least not at my club. Most Bab players wield a Pure Storm of some kind, including the Ltd, with a few Aerostorms and AeroProDrives here and there for good measure. The PD is very rare by comparison. The Head Extreme seems well-liked, though.

Got the blx #2 in.

It weighs 11.7 unstrung...yes. Both of mine match in weight and swing the same to me. I will have to get them RDCd but I think I'm good to go so far.

The cyclone was easy to string up, but Silverstring on hour 9 played better and felt better as well. Crazy but true.

Alrighty, gents:

Got to the shop, they had neither the PS 95, 90 or either Juice. What they did have was the new 6.1 95 in a closed pattern, which I knew I liked with the open pattern so I took this one out for a spin, and the Pro Staff 100 -- too light for my taste but I can hang with lighter sticks after I get used to the weight, so I went for it anyway to see what box beam would feel like in a lighter package. ...

Off to the courts I went...

Rallied awhile to adjust and then played a first set with the Pro Staff. Well, I really want to try the 95 even more now, because even though this one was too light, it felt fantastic. The box beam feel is still special in a lighter package, so that was a plus. I did slap on some last-minute lead at 12 after getting to the court early and hitting some serves, and the lead helped. All in all, just a great light racquet that had good pop, amazing maneuverability (obviously) and, biggest surprise: I stabbed, without question, some of my best volleys in months tonight with this thing. Just great, great touch around the net. FOR ITS WEIGHT (because comparing this this to higher weight class isn't right), I think this thing is absolutely fantastic. People used to playing lighter sticks, Babolat tweeners, etc., will have a great box beam option soon, and that's a good thing. Nice job, Wilson. Now, I really want to check the 95. ...

After a 6-3 first-set win with the 100, onto the...

6.1 95. Well, hello Wilson Quality Control. This thing weighed 12.3, fine, but unquestionably swung heavier than my recent playtest frame. So, there you go. It's all about getting lucky or paying extra for exact spec, if able. THAT BEING SAID, hey, once again 6.1 95, your FYP is amazing, my friend. Man it's fun to just rear back and crush with this thing, and someone else said this before and I'll just reiterate: when you have the 6.1 in hand, you just automatically become the aggressor on court, the dictator, and you just go for shots. Found myself reminding myself that I shouldn't go for a winner on just about every shot, but you just feel like you're capable of exactly that. Won the second set 6-3 as well with the 6.1, playing splendidly in spite of the slightly-more-than-I-like swingweight, just ripping the ball to the right spots....

Played a third set, keeping the 6.1 95 in hand, and it was ugly. The added weight started getting to me, I was late on shots and particularly on serves, where I just lost everything, all control of the ball. Same 6.1 95 experience of the past -- stellar for an hour, sloppy for the next. Annoying. At 4-1 down I switch back to the PS 100 (realizing it's a bit nutty to switch to such a lighter stick mid-set, but who cares, I was just having fun), and after getting down 5-1, broke him and then climbed all the way back to 5-5 with the Box Beam Magic ... and then... it was over, I couldn't pull off the Tebow and he took the last two very tight games.

All in all, fun night testing out two more newbies. Regarding the 6.1 95, it was strung with Sensation, so softer than the ALU Power the demo was strung with, but the frame remained pretty rigid feeling so that's just an inherent quality rather than string. Feel wise, I prefer the BLX, so I think PP may have scored the jackpot with a BLX that swings in the low 320s. ....

All in all, though, good on Wilson to bring back the box beams (even if they're imperfect) and, supposedly -- from both people at the shop and people here on these boards -- the Juice is something to check out, too.

I have a bunch of new and old frames to try in the weeks to come. I have the new edition Wilson 6.0 85 that i will take out for a spin strung with Babolat Tonic+, and I have also got four new interesting frames from Head to test over the holidays, IG Prestige S, IG prestige MP, IG radical MP and IG Radical Pro. Will be interesting to see and compare with the YT version side by side.

On a side note; The new IG Prestige looks pretty ok! The darker part of the frame is not black or grey, but more like a very deep dark red color.
I think this frame would look much better with black CAP´s, but that´s very easy to change

Nice little write up Gads. Interesting stuff about both Wilsons. I also like to be more the aggressor than the counter-puncher (might explain why in my testing I'm still slightly favoring the APD over the Exo 100.) Also, if I'm being honest, I, too, struggle with the weight a bit later on in matches with the N95, and I've changed my mind a few times about the firmness (stiffness) - even though the N95 is around 65 RA, I have found it a bit harsh previously (same with every 6.1), and none more so than with certain full poly jobs I used to use. As someone who regularly (in fact, increasingly regularly) 'revisits' the N95 and has 1 permanently in my bag, with both rackets, I wouldn't mind a demo or whatever TBH.

Just got my Melbourne, sorry for the cross posting (BB Melbourne club) but mods done...........

Ive added 6g in the handle plus volkl overgrip (7g) and 11g from 10-2 plus dampener (2g) New spec is 368g and Ive kept the balance at 7pts. Swings great, just really nicely balanced, swingweight is a little less than the dnx mids I estimate 355 or so, will measure later.

Here she is.....will take her out when I get a break in the weather, hopefully tmoro or sunday.....will do fresh string job tonight!

Re the 6.1 95 :

Do you guys lift weights or anything? I don't mean it as a sarcastic question, I just wondered because I definitely agree the stick is obviously heavier at 12.5 with OG and dampener.

But so far I have not had issues with the weight..I have been lifting a lot lately though and I am wondering if this helps me out from getting fatigued. If anything, my legs have been dead lately, but that is probably due to how much I have been exercising since the weather here is awesome right now.

also, the Box beam 95 ..how much of a difference is there compared to the BLX 95 on serve..in terms of playing an attacking style? I play so much better now that I can pressure the ball and hit so accurately when I swing out that I am not sure I could see the PS95 playing the same way.

Its interesting the strength issue and lifting weights.....I think it helps to a degree to make you stronger but once you're in the iron man range that murray has moved into I expect him to start getting injuries soon, he imo has gone too big.
My racket is very heavy and like daniel nester I'm not known for my muscle mass. I am however very strong, I have a couple of brothers both in the 16 stone region, they run and lift weights but can they carry heavy boxes and furniture up and down stairs as good as me, no! Can they serve 130mph dtl, ha, can they ****, can I punch my way out of a paper bag, ha no...horses for courses

Yeah and your racquet is waaaay heavier than mine.

Mine are 357 and a SW under 330.

I would say I am strong for my size though.

Its all relative eh pp....you know what you need to improve. Mt fitness for 41 its pretty good. A 5.0 19 yr old was running everything down the other week and I can't keep up with that these days but he can't keep up with my serve and aggressive game, he lost pretty comfortably.

I'm very tall and slim, got long arms, kinda nester, goran etc type who have strength but its all rythym, that's why heavy sticks are good you can't muscle it as much. My racket tho pp you would never think its heavy as its so manoeuvrable, the melbourne by the way reminds me of your stick but more manoeuvrable......lovely!

Another tip is to lead up your stick to about390g top of handle go out play a set then you'll never find 360 + a problem again

^ Nope. I'm the same way with my preferences. In between 354-358gr. static and 350-360 swing. With a 7-9pt. balance.

Do you tend to prefer hitting flatter strokes? I know I do. I prefer pace over spin, even though I brush-up quite a bit, I'm still hittin' a pillow.

I know what you mean. The n6.1 has me intrigued. 65flex. The BLX is just a tad too stiff and powerful for me, although very comfortable at the same time.

It matters what type of players you are up against. If they are 3.5, then you can use a heavy stick because you will have so much time..if you are hitting 4.5-5.0s and can still set up with that heavy stick then you are golden.

I've been swinging this weight for so long it hardly feels heavy to me anymore. It's been getting hard to find 4.5s and up around here for a while because most of the higher level guys play in Dallas and I'm lucky to make it out of Fort Worth once every 6 months. But I regularly hit 4.0s (some of whom should be 4.5s) and I haven't had any problems.

Seriously though, the reviews were not good but this string has only a bit less bite then TB but has a good deal more controllable power. I've got it at 52/50: hit with it yesterday at 49 degrees and today at 65. Great depth both days and great control.

Depending on price I would consider this one. It almost feels like it Hyperion and Tour Bite had a baby it would be this one ;)

Since both b5e and the SS are both polys you could drop the tension 2lbs on the SS crosses and get some wicked pocketing.

With the Nvy crosses, you had to go up to account for the extra power and softness. Just my 2 cents

ok...so maybe 48/50? (2 lb drop from 52) or go lower? btw - used to string 48/48 with BBO crosses.

yes have been to England and had a great time staying with locals outside London. even rented an auto with manual stick (most everyone drives stick except elderly or disabled so i was told ;) ) and drove all around (seeing the sights, castles, etc) on the WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD.

Haha... sights and castles are all well and good, but I do hope you managed to visit a decent pub while you were here.:)

Cheers for link... I do recall it now... will check it out.

Sierra Nevada is awesome...one of my favorites.

But since I am in a bar sometimes longer then needed for business reasons, I stick with the Miller Lites.

I've never dared to click on this thread before, and when I finally muster the courage, you are all talking a bout beer! Hooray!

But seriously, go drink some Fat Tire and you will forget all about your cloudy Sierra Nevada...

You can say that again ... I may have two Pure Drive Swirlies coming my way next week...

OK, got 'em. It appears to be a Pure Drive Plus and a Pure Drive Team Plus, both in swirly paint job. Interesting, I've never played with an extended frame. Will measure, clean and string at least of them up next week, probably with a full bed of either WC B5E or BHBR.

Cloudy is good, weissbier is superb but the ultimate cloud is hoegaarden. Ultimate mans glass, few of these and its 'taxi'

Enlighten this heathen here, what is a Sierra Nevada?:)

It's a nice easy IPA that is not super heavy. I usually avoid heavy beers, even though I love the hell out of a good guiness or Black & tan. IPA's can be so heavy that it takes a while to drink them..I like the american light stuff since I can avoid getting hammered and hungover and still have a good time.

If I was going to have 1-2 beers and chill out..the IPA is always an excellent option.

A brewing company here in the states (used to be micro but now they have gotten big time).

Tumbler (black ale) and Torpedo (double hop IPA) are my favorites!!!

A little side note-

Q:
Does anyone know why they call it Indian Pale Ale?

A:
When the Brits owned the seas of naval warfare and merchant trade, the long trip to India would cause many logistical nightmares. A supply of clean and potable water was a premium and due to the length of the journey, water would usually grow stagnant and collect bacteria and thus become undrinkable for health reasons.

So what is the solution the Brits came up with? A double or triple hopped ale that would last the long trip to India. Such an ale (I.P.A.) was convenient for the mere fact that bacteria would not flourish in an environment of 9-11% alcohol. Now that's some fine grog!!! And it appears that if it meets British Naval Standards-- it most definitely meets my own.

Cheers!!

And Ross, yes, for any beer/ale/grog/mead fan, Britian is #1 in my book... followed by Germany at a distant #2.

Lately, here in the states at least, there are some great D.I.Y. Home Brew kits (and I'm not talking about the cr@p Mr.Beer.. yuck!!). For about $20, one (if willing to invest the time and work) can brew outrageously great ales at home and produce about 48 beers for this sum of money. This is my next hobby!

^ My friend made a great red ale... tripled hopped (with actual hops) and Irish moss (from Ireland).

11% alcohol and the smoothest tasting brew in the world. What's great is.. once you start brewing your own.. you can taste a brew and pretty much tell what ingredients were used and the process done.

And, I would like to continue 'BrewTalk'

^ I want some of that Young's Bitter!!!!

Djoker-
Fat Tire is alright... a little too light and watered down for my tastes.

This is coming from a man who used to tank 'Irish Car Bombs' like water in college... so I'm not the finest example of neutrality.

^ With Brews I can go all night. Never gotten 'sick' or 'plastered' off of ales... now liquor and wine is a different story.

I think it's all the bathroom breaks... too much time wasted from actually drinking.

How 'bout some great drinking stories!!!??!

Besides the 'one night' I had described a few pages back-- with the 'hot tub and bubble bath solution' warning.

Ugghhh... I still can't even smell Jack Daniels to this day!!!
