Mikeler's Multis

Yeah EXO is so soft when I demo it. Problem for me was getting use to the balance. You probably will need to put some lead in the top hoop cause is very head light. Nevertheless amazing racquet for arm problem people.
Send the feedback of what you think about it in the central florida thread instead derailing your multi thread.

EDIT: But for the record I stick with my Yonex 95d :)

It's interesting that only Signum Pro Micronite and Discho Microfibre use this technique. More data to make me suspect that they are the same strings.

Got in another 3 sets of singles on the Discho Microfibre 17 this morning. I won but was mishitting way too many balls. The 2 hander might end up replacing the 1 handed backhand, it is so much easier on my arm. I just need a match where I'm hitting the ball well so I can decide if I want to go with a reel of the 16 or 17. Right now I'm leaning towards the 17 just for comfort.

I also got a friend's Exo Tour 100 in the bag. Maybe I'll take that bad boy to the wall and get in a few more minutes with it.

Do I hear a Mikeler's Rackets thread coming?

Exo is definitely not as comfy with poly mains versus full multi in the 7G. The racket is wider in the middle than the 7G.  That would be better for my heavy topspin game.  Enjoyed serving with it but liked the 7G better hitting against the wall. I like really head light sticks, so that is no issue.

Weird, but now I think the 16g Microfibre plays softer than the 17g. The Pros Pro aka MCS is still the softest setup in my bag.

Yeah, no idea how it feel with poly on, and never will know. :) The one I demo was from the plaza and it have some kind of Prince syn gut with a swirl red on it. Guess I choose Yonex cause i being using them forever and Im use to the head shape. The exo did look weird for me...so big and round, but dig the thin bean though.

Also Goran and Tebow mention me about the Prince rebel 95 being very soft too. Im just glad that im over the search of racquets and string, still dont know why i come to the forum and read all the time. :)

I really love the 7G, so I doubt I'll switch. My net game has never been this good. I'm resigned to the fact that I'll probably have to just switch to a 2 handed backhand until my arm heals. Today I was hitting it better than my 1 hander so it might be a long term move. So much easier to deal with high balls using that extra hand on the racket.

I read where you were thinking about the 2hbh, if it works for you and you can do it that will be great. I think TW Chris did the same during his elbow pain if im correct.
I cant hit 2hbh to save my life hahaha. Im in my 3 week out of courts and counting. The pain still there like first day. And I know the problem/pain is with the 1hbh so rest, rest, rest.

If you ditch the 7G and go with prince + 2hbh + clay= OTC Ferrer LOL!!

I love Ferrer's game. Small in stature but huge in mental fight.

Feedback on multi hybrid with MSV hex

Mike, could I get your feedback on what multi you might hybrid with msv hex? What multi in a cross setup?what multi in a main setup? I play with youtek radical mp 18x20, with full bed of 17g Multifeel. If its a bad idea all together please explain. Thank you very much.

I have barely hit any balls on multi mains with poly crosses, so I can't help you there. I like Genesis Thunder Blast as a cross string with poly mains. I also don't play with closed pattern rackets with 18 mains. They just feel too boardy for me.

Speaking on this..do u think the current multis you are liking by discho are gut like enough to emulate a gut/poly setup?

Are they slick like gut for example?

Ok..damn. that is a great thing for a full bed though.

I keep coming back to gut/poly. I am not sure how to describe it, but the lift on the ball off the groundstrokes is so consistent. It is probably the gut trampolining just enough so I can get nice depth and net clearance without having to swing as hard. The difference between that and say the PPA, is the spin on the ball is super heavy and the accuracy is much more precise. It also helps me on serve. Now and then I bust out some twist serves that are tough to read off the bounce. Yours is more developed and would be scary as hell with this setup.

I have a bunch of RIP control too so so I will continue to use that in my backup racquet. I still really enjoy that string as well. There is just so much controllable free power with the gut/poly that it feels like the only setup where I don't have to sacrifice anything. I have comfort, feel, power, heavy spin and control all in one string job.

Do you get that type of vibe with the Mamba multi? I ask because as much as I love this setup, if it does not last me long enough to be cost effective I can't use it long term.

The Signum/Mamba string just seems to do it all quite well. The last 3 matches, I've been sick and my timing is just a little off so I'm really not getting a great playtest of the 17g Discho yet. I normally frame a lot of shots but the last 3 outings have been absurd.

My twist serve pretty much only works in the ad court these days. It's just hard to get that one down the middle in the deuce court without risking a wide ball. Seems like the most action I got in recent memory was with the all gut setup, so I'm sure gut/poly would be nice and wicked.

Yeah i have been sick all week as well...some kind of bad flu/cold is going around. I finally got out there yesterday to test myself again and I was hitting clean, but my feet did not want to work as much as I need. the gutpoly aided with all that controllable power so I could hit pretty deep even when I was out of position and hitting some weak groundies.

I think gut/poly is the most action you can get on a ball. It destroys full poly in every area, especially arm health. The only trick is you really have to practice your drop shots and lobs just to get the touch recalibrated, but that is the case for any string change.

Yeah, I can't really tell if it is a cold or flu. My father-in-law, myself and son have this disgusting hacking cough. It gets worse when I'm on the court too.

I only have that one Unifibre gut/B5E mains experience, but that feel was not something I liked all that much. Definitely liked it better the other way with the poly in the mains and the gut in the crosses.

So I played for the first time in a couple of months. Strung up with Toalson Asterisk in the hope that it would be kind to my arm.

I strung it up at 48lbs. I can't comment too much but it felt pretty low powered, crisp and didn't pocket the ball much. Not really what I was expecting. (especially at that tension)
Didn't feel any elbow pain while I was playing but a little soreness today - maybe I will have to take a little more time away :(

I might buy some Hi-Tec Multifiber given that you regard it as MCS Mike, saves me quite a bit of money ;)

I can't tell any difference between the Hi-Tec Multifiber and MCS. It's possible they are different strings but I highly doubt it. I'm pretty sensitive to strings and even though there are several others that are close to MCS, there are always some minor differences I can detect.

No idea. I never tried it as a cross. It is springy, powerful, and pockety (I don't think that's a word, but you get what I'm saying.)

Pro Supex FT Ruff 17g

Pro Supex SynGut Titan 17g
Pro Supex Synthetic Gut 18g

Red indicates I either have plenty of sets or a reel so that it won't interfere with other people requesting them. Those are obviously the preferred options since I'll only take one main and one cross with me.

Is the MCS going to remove the responsiveness? Explosiv did for sure. Xcel FO did not, but I only have 3 sets of that, and it's incredibly expensive.

Looks like you have a couple of discontinued strings on your list (C3 Rocket and K-gut)
FWIW the Head site lists Ultratour over a picture of RipPerfectControl!
I assume they just changed the name.

If Explosiv was no good for you, I don't see how MCS will improve anything. Hmm, a nice black string like Tornado would go great with another black string that is my favorite cross and happens to "bleed" black. I'm just thinking of setups you like and a stiffer cross with that string seems more in your wheelhouse. In other words, I'm too lazy (and jealous) to look at your huge list of strings!

I had no idea MCS was available in black. Would've gladly taken that over "Prosthesis White". :D

Man, the MCS is also available in optic yellow

OPTIC YELLOW!!

i never seen to get enough of this concept of colour.
it is probably the biggest diference between the mantis and the pros pro, is this amazing traffic police unit color in flashy yellow.
I remenber once hearing in a match between baby federer and gugga at Hambourg (2002 i guess) and the commentator said that federer was "a very flashy player".
well imagine if he used MCS in optic yellow

we all live in a optic yellow submarine
optic yellow submarine

Indeed, come fall, I will carry Nvy. Until then, I need something to take with me. Tried the BHBR/MCS. Good, good power, good spin, good control, not crisp.

OK, here is my review in the TW format of the Discho Microfibre 17.

Strings up just like its 16g counterpart. Very easy to work with.

Tension it is strung: 60 pounds on a lockout machine full bed
Your regular string set up: Weiss Cannon Black 5 Edge 17 Mains(52#)/Genesis Thunder Blast 16 Crosses(56#)
Racket: Pro Kennex 7G (this is different than the others tested in the Babolat PST+)
String pattern of your racquet: 16 x 20
Power (or lack there of): Medium powered multi
Feel: Pretty good
Tension maintenance: Never got a final measurement
Price: $12.50/set
Overall comments and feedback: See below

General: I tried this after hitting with the 16g. This string was only better for me on serves than the 16g version. I've had a bad cold the last 10 days, so that could have negatively influenced my opinion of this string.

Serve/Return of Serve: I was able to hit my spots well with this string. I did not notice anything extra special on 2nd serves or returns.

Strokes: Pretty good off both wings but I was missing that confidence boost I get when I use the 16g.

Volleys: I hit some incredible drop volleys with this string. Punch volleys were average, nothing special.

Touch shots: Drop shots were not as good as the drop volleys.

Softness: This is softer than the 16g version. Definitely good for sore arms like mine right now.

Tension: If I had to try it again, I might up the tension to 62 if durability was not a concern.

Durability: I got about 6.5 sets of singles on it before it broke.

Movement: String movement was more than the 16g but still not as bad as most multis.

Conclusion: Maybe I'm just a 16g kind of guy. This 17g was pretty good but does not have the same "Wow" factor for me. I'd also prefer something with a little more durability.

Last up is Pros Pro Gutex Ultra 1.25. I cut my sets tonight, but have not strung it up yet. It reminds me of the Polyfibre Gutex string I tried, just in a thinner gauge. After this, the thread is going on a much needed summer vacation. :)

You rate the Prince Premier Attack 16 higher than Babolat Addiction, but which string has better feel and power?

Dear Mikeler. I have the following question to you if you don't mind. My son of 13 y.o. Playing tennis and after few tests we found out that he prefers guts-poly hybrid and best of all tour bite and b5e.this summer I am going to send him to play few tournaments with a group, where I don't think that he or smb may care about hybrid stringing. So my question is if it is possible to find a good and similar substitution to above setup, but using one string for a full bed.thank you in advance for your answer.

That will be hard to duplicate with just 1 string.

Microfibre 16 has been ordered. This will go on racquet #2 if I break a string in racquet #1....or in a landslide upset will become my main setup. I just don't know if anything can beat gut/cofocus for me but I am open minded.

try gut / PL Evo
I much prefer it to Cofocus

PPA has better feel, power is probably slightly less but close.

I have been trying PPA lately and its nice as a cross with poly, but as a full setup is rather ordinary. Premium multis like Xcel or Gamma profl are far superior IMO in a full bed.

Ok now we are talking.I will have to try it, I just have a lot of string right now and need to stop buying.

Do you have any half sets? I would gladly trade you..I have amassed quite the string collection.
