Didn't see one here, so here it is.

Season 2 just ended. I don't have HBO, so I'll have to use other means to get a hold of some of the episodes.

I would sympathize with the Starks, but it must be in their hard-coded DNA to do something stupid and then die. I keep pulling my hair over some of the stuff they do. It's like they value honor so much that intelligence and common sense are optional, if not non-existent. Even then they betray each other with disastrous results. UGH!

I'll post some poll up later. Until then, feel free to discuss, speculate, taunt, jibe, moan, etc.

I love the show; I've seen a couple of episodes and the its very well done, excellent acting and costumes. I haven't gotten into it as much as Breaking Bad or LOST but I need to watch some more episodes.

I wont read this therad until i finish the 2nd book. Unless the 3rd season starts before I finish the 3rd book. the 3rd book is superl;ong so they may make two seasons out of the third book.

martin has said he plans on finishing the saga (books 6 and 7) before the series overtakes the books. I know he is close to finishing the 6th book so it may happen.

3rd book is long but by far the best, IMHO. The nice thing about Martin is that no one is safe from buying the farm. I really enjoy the show but the books are much better. The TV writers changed up enough plot elements to make season 2 slightly surprising for me, which was nice.

Just got into it, watched the first season this past week. Love the show, going to have to find a way to watch the second season online now.

Saw some episodes and I really enjoyed them.

The presence of Emilia Clarke makes the show 200% better though.

You got that right!

I still think Daenerys whines too much and has gotten a few lucky breaks, but she showed she has a twisted side to her in the season 2 finale.

I had an instant crush on her. Most beautiful closeups I've seen in TV fiction for a long time.

Nice bottom too.

The presence of Lena Headey makes the show 300% better for me :)

Yeah, she's fine, but Emilia Clarke has the kind of beauty that leaves me hypnotized.

Talisa (Oona Chaplin) has probably the best ass seen so far.

^ This. The only drawback to this whole thing is that it took Martin five years to write book 4 and another six years after that to write book 5. On top of that, books 4 and 5 were regarded by most fans as being weaker than 1-3. I just hope it isn't another ten years before he finishes the series.

My question is What happens to those dragons ? if those dragons grow up and under the power of the princess, she will be invincible. Is that not true ?

It would have to take some time for the dragons to mature. That and she'd actually need to own land to feed those things.

Midway through "A Storm of Swords". Awesome books and awesome series. Guess I love diversity, as my top three TV series are (in order):
1) Game of Thrones
2) How I Met Your Mother
3) Supernatural

There is virtually no chance at this point that he finishes the books before the series catch up. He may just get book 6 out in time, but not book 7.

He has so many other things distracting him now. Unfortunately books 4 and 5 are the weakest too. So my expectations are a lot lower than a year ago (when I started reading the books after the show blew me away).

I gotta watch this show. Im almost caught up on the books.

I knwo in the grans scheme it doesnt matter. But I sorta like to compare the differences. My boss talks to me about the show alot.

In the show i belive they never mention how Sansa was the one to go the Queen Cersei and tell that Ned was getting ready to take the family back to winterfell. I dont have any sorta feeling towrads Sansa, as she is getting what she deserved in a way. But my boss feels sorry for her and think she is trapped.

Just one difference ive noticed.

Sansa is hard for me figure out. She doesn't embrace being a Stark. She wants to be a princess, unlike Arya. She idolized Cersei to the point she played a role in her dad's death. Even after realizing Joffrey isn't the man she dreamed he was, she still felt obligated to be a proper lady and stick to him. I don't know if she's naive, stupid, and/or putting on an act. Right now she's in survival mode. I kind of feel sorry for her, but she has nobody to blame but herself. Ned, Benjen, and Arya are the only real Starks in my book as everyone else (Jon, Robb, Catelyn, Sansa) is too soft. Sansa is about as much a Stark as Theon is a Greyjoy.

Queen Cersei Lannister is the hottest to me, even though she's 40ish, i am attracted to her character more than anything. :) a close second is Khaleesi's woman of the evening friend that was in the bathtub w/her brother in season 1 and was locked up in that safe w/that giant black king in season 2.

How good is this TV series?

Season 1 set the scene. Season 2 was simply amazing, particularly the plot development and the last 2 episodes. Season 3 is building the tension again!

Sheer brilliance.

The story background extras (hand drawn illustrations with voiceovers) are well worth watching for those not familiar with the books:

The cast at the Emmy's:

Comic Girl commenting on the seris (pretty funny)

The only thing I don't like so much is the John Snow / north of the wall storyline - they spend too much of the TV series on that storyline IMO.

How boring was last night's episode? It was basically the characters learning what the viewers learned last week. It felt like filler to me, to be honest. I understand the slow, tension building style of the series, but last night was a bit too much for me. I did like the scene with Tiwyn Lannister.

Slower episode, but they can't all be blockbusters, no show works like that.

I still enjoyed the hell out of it. This season is spectacular.

I'm used to the slow pace of the show (most if not all episodes work like that in this series) and do appreciate/enjoy it, just thought last night was lazy on their part. Slow is good if it moves the story at a decent pace, but last night I just felt there were too few plot advances.

As far as a show where all/most episodes are blockbusters, there's Spartacus.

I think it's what they refer to as a "set up" episode. I don't know if you've read the books or not?

I'd rather not now that I'm following along with the series. Have heard good things on them though. The whole series is supposed to be seven books, right?

yeah, I only read them after the first season. He's only done 5 of the 7 at this point and it's almost guaranteed that the show will overtake his writing and finish before him. He has told the producers what happens in the end though, just in case he dies before they get there!!

I don't blame you for not starting. If you're enjoying the show, there is no reason to. The books obviously give a lot more background and build up (they are very long), but the pay offs in the show have been just as good.

At one point it was 6 then 7. Now rumors are GRRM saying it may be eight.

I think he starts writing then he has all these pages. The world is so huge and there are so many players and stories and with whatever is up north probably being more involved. Thats alot of content for him to try and wrap up to some kind of conclusion.

Lets hope its not Dragons vs Zombies at the end.

He is not making life easy on himself either. Seems like he's involved in so many little projects that have to be taking up his time and not advancing his writing of the books. It's a little frustrating.

Book 3 will consume seasons 3 and 4. I am thinking of reading books 1 and 2.

At the speed that Martin writes, they will have to stretch if they want any conclusion. I can't see the books and the television series finishing anywhere close to each other. There are to be two more books and there are currently five. The first novel was released in 1996 and the fifth installment was completed last year. If you read his blog you see that Martin has soooo many other projects as well.

I highly recommend reading all of the books, this is the finest series I have ever read and I have read many. All the books are awesome and the characters are so well written.

I'll throw out a word of caution here. It's really just an opinion I guess.

It is likely that the show will start to deviate more from the books after season 4. It's widely regarded that book 3 is the best and it goes downhill after that (basically a lot less happens, people travel etc etc). Book 3 is my favorite book ever. If I could go back in time and never have read books 4 and 5, I probably would. I suspect the TV show will do a better job with their stories than Martin did.

Like I said before, the TV show is pretty much assured to finish before the books at this stage. Martin has allowed himself to be distracted by too many other things (that's his right of course).

Martin doesn't look like the picture of health, either. With his slow pace, there's a great chance he will kick the bucket before finishing.

I really don't see them splitting any more books. I think Book 3 is a special case because of the quantity of big events and the fact that it's just so damn good.

There are more things to consider. i.e. the huge cast and keeping them together till the end. What if the ratings start to slide (this will happen at some point for sure). Martin has total control over his books, but HBO have a lot of things to weigh as they get closer to finishing the series. I just can't imagine they are envisioning going more than 8 seasons. That seems so unlikely....at least to me.

You never know though, at the end of the day, maybe money talks and they do 10 seasons!!!

I root for the Starks. Unfortunately, their fatal flaws just kill me. Robb lets his emotions and his dad's legacy cloud his better judgement time after time. Maybe he has too much of his mother in him. Sansa is everyone's ping-pong ball... poor girl. I like Arya, but she's a Stark so she's made to suffer inevitably. Sigh...

I'd have to agree, if anything though I could see them splitting books 4 and 5 in three seasons. A lot of characters are left out of one book but show up in the other.

If ratingS hold up why not????? ratings for cable totally different than network TV.

The series is relatively low/limited budget and they a lot with what they get. That's one reason you only get 10-12 ep per season -

And if they get to the final two books they would almost have to split them - at over 1500 pages each per GRRM no way would you get quality in a 10 ep season.

It's the most expensive series ever made. They took a huge gamble making it. http://www.yourtv.com.au/slideshow/179993/the-most-expensive-tv-series-ever-made.slideshow

ratings are very high right now, it seems unlikely that they will keep rising as the seasons keep coming. much more likely they will eventually start dropping. That is TV for you.

As for the budget yeah, it's pretty darn big for a TV series. I would imagine it's a hell of a lot of work though, year after year. Another reason I don't see them continuing to split books.

While the TV series have been good they skip way too much from the stories for it to really be a great translation to TV.

I'm only up to half way through book 3 part 2 so ahead of the TV series but have passed each book close enough ahead of the TV to really notice what has been missed out.

Great TV but wish they'd made each series 15 episodes and put more effort into, for example, Brandon's Direwolf dreams.

I don't like it that HBO is just manipulating us with this Dragons thing. We are wondering how powerful are these things ? Can they just destroy an army, just like that ?? Does other kings have some kind of secret weapon they can use against these dragons ?
