Agree, but let's modify it a bit.
All slams until the rise of the Djoker were ultra boring. Weak players, and Nadal had zero competition. You can't count a weakling like Federer as a tough opponent for Nadal. Only when Djoker spoiled the party and became the first player to stand up to Nadal is when it got fun again.

I am saying 2009 AO final was better than W 2008 for shot making, and even in that Federer was a joke. It's just W 2008 was even worse.
And you know that clay court tennis is even more pathetic since 2005. I mean who did Nadal have as his competition on that surface? All RG's were boring, predictable and a yawn fest. And please don't say Federer, that guy lost his first 11 professional matches on clay, he certainly ain't worthy. And if that is the best you got, it doesn't hold well for the so called incredible depth. Only now with Joker around is there a slight bit of interest regarding someone other than Nadal winning a slam.

Not really, Nadal should have won in three, and no one would have harped on and on about it. But he decided to choke a bit, and you know it. Federer was no competition for Nadal.

You should be thankful that Djokovic turned up to the party, if you seek competition and depth. If no Djokovic, Nadal wins slam after slam after slam for two years straight.
How boring would that be? Djokovic probably has saved tennis by giving competition back to the game.

Don't agree with this. The Wim 04 final was entertaining, as was the 05 USO final, a 35.5 yr old Agassi did his best to make the match competitive.
But tbh most of them were boring. Everybody wanted Fed to win WIM03 and when it was official he had to play phillip-useless in the final we all knew he would win it.
04AO Safin was out of petrol after gruelling 5 set matches almost all the way to the final.
04USO Hewitt was hopeless. Competitive for one set and when he didn't win it, he went away again. bagelled twice in a final is unacceptable.
05WIM Roddick wasn't playing anywhere near well enough to trouble Fed that time.
06AO was entertaining for 2 sets, but then Baggy disappeared after set 2.
06WIM was against Nadal and was highly entertaining after the first set.
06USO Roddick did well against Fed, almost got 2 sets against him but just couldn't handle the pressure in the latter stges of that third set when serving at 5 all.
07AO was boring imo. Competitive first set but nothing much after that.
07WIM was very entertaining, probably Fed's best final win at a major.
07USO against Novak was also an entertaining final, pity Novak was too inexperienced to hold his nerve in the first 2 sets.

i disagree... i actually really enjoy watching federer 04-05... seeing his overwhelming baseline game tear opponents apart. his forehand was so explosive back then. he pioneered shots from the backcourt which were almost revolutionary back then. he and safin were really leading the charge towards this baseline domination game. AO 2005 semi-final remains probably my favorite match to watch of all time.

Out of interest and to compare, here are Nadal's entertaining slam finals that he won:
2006,2007,2011 RG. Fed made those matches very competitive and could've quite easily taken a few more sets off Rafa than he actually did.
AO09 was very competitive, excellent shot making from both men and went down to the wire.
WIM08 the drama was through the roof, although I agree with others the shot making wasn't as spectacular, the occassion was what made this one incredibly exciting. It had rain delays, momentum shifts, and signalled the end of the Fed WIM reign.
RG10, WIM10 I'd say were boring, we all knew who was going to win.
USO10 is a matter of opinions, I thought it was exciting, Novak was playing well in that tournament and was competitive against Rafa in the final.
RG12 was ok in terms of excitement, a lot of people were wondering if Novak could win 4 in a row and many felt that he was the only guy capable of beating Rafa at RG in a final. Unfortunately the match didn't really live up to expectations.

Pre Nadal days doesn't signal the Pre Djokovic days, when it actually became interesting, and Nadal had to started earning slams against a player who could actually give him competition.
Pre Nadal days, and Nadal days but Pre Djokovic are just are horrendous and void of any competition.
You seem like a guy that relishes good competition. You should be thrilled that Novak is here to entertain you, and make Nadal earn slams for a change.

The competition was really low, and extremely one sided at almost all times. Roddick was much better in 2009, that says a lot.
