He said that, although Fed and Djok were friendly in the media, behind the scenes they really do dislike each other.

I didn't believe it when TennisTT people said it, but Rusedski said it as if it was locker room stuff that an ex-player like him would definitely know about.

It makes this match more interesting when you know it's a grudge match.

Rusedski is the type of guy who'd say stuff like that like he knows stuff like that, while he really doesn't. He just wants to be interesting. I honestly don't see why Roger and Novak wouldn't respect each other. If they don't than it's only better. Let them eat each other on friday

Why would an ex-player know what goes on in the locker room? He isn't supposed to be in the locker room, unless he is a masseur, trainer or coach. :?

Strange - I've always thought that Federer's interviws gave off the impression that he disliked Djkovic from years ago, circa 2007 onwards, when he (Djoker) was routinely pulling-out of matches or 'getting injured'.

You don't need a particular reason to dislike someone. I'm irritated by Nole's chin, the corners of his mouth, the air snorting(Ivo, Čilić and Tomić do this too, sooo annoying) his stupid stare while losing, etc. Just like Azarenka! Maybe Roger feels the same! Lol

Yeah, okay.. they might dislike each other then, but who cares. They don't have to be friends. I'm sure they have great respect for their respective capabilities and achievements.

lol ex players are always in the locker rooms u fools. You think its difficult to get a players badge when you were an ex top 10 player? Ive seen tons average hitting partners, kids and others with connections wandering around in the locker rooms.

It's no secret that they aren't friendly. Fed called out Djoker after he pulled out of AusOpen, mentioning that it wasn't the first time. Just watch them shake hands at the end of a match, Fed won't look Djoker in the eye.

If you want to see how players who know each other well really feel about each other look at the end of a match when they meet at the net. Djoko and Fed are a bit cooler than Djoko/Nadal and Nadal/Fed

Personally, I think the tension between them mellowed out a lot in the last few years.

Wouldn't mind if what Rusedski is saying is true though, it's adds another dimension to their matches and makes it feel like there's more on the line.

Yeah but it must be winding Federer up that he's losing to him at the semi's of every slam, especially the US last year when he had match point on his own serve and Djokovic just took a big swing and it luckily went in.

Dislike between these 2? I have the impression that's the truth. No need to hear from Rusedski. I thought Fed's dislike showed when Djoker's mom declared "King is dead, vive a new King", or something like that after AO win by Djoker a few years back.
Nevertheless, dislike doesn't exclude some amount of respect for each other, simply for what they have achieved and still can.

Roger and Novak are obviously not the best friends off the court, but from what Roger said yesterday in his post match interview they do respect each other:

This is old stuff that has cooled off now. If its "locker room stuff" then its just rumours. It's not like Roger and Noel have fistfights in the locker room that we haven't heard of, but GR has.

It sounds like exaggeration to me, kind of like when two people have an argument in front of others, and the story gets relayed to everyone else as gossip.
"Hey, those two guys had an argument earlier."
"Did you hear about that fight earlier?"
"Did you see those two? They were at each others throats, proper going for each other!"
"They were killing each other! There was blood, punching scratching, I had to step in and stop it!"
"Yeah one of them's in hospital, life support and everything!"

Rusedski tested positive for the steroid nandrolone in '04. He got off on a technicality like so many others. I wouldn't put too much weight on what he says & shocked that the guy is allowed to call matches.

Just goes to show what a joke sports "journalists" are these days. I always thought that journalists are supposed to be impartial, seek the truth and report it. These days all they do is act like mouth pieces for the sport they're reporting on. I guess it has something to do with job security, but I believe the fans deserve better.

What on earth has that got to do with the remark the poster you quote made? He said "Rusedski became England's big hope" (though actually I think most people supported Henman more - I did). Where does Andy Murray come into this at all? Different era.

Guns and everything, it was havoc, it was on the news too (but not the news that anyone would have seen of course).

It only stopped when I stepped in, deciding to go for the bigger one, as you do like. I barely escaped with my life.

I think if you look at old tapes, Fed won't look Murray in the eye either. In fact, I think he dislikes him more. He says things like I will take him in a five setter anytime. No one has won from England in 1,000 years. etc.

I think we all pretty much knew that they don't like each other. forgot the "be quiet" thing?

I think federer and nadal really respect each other (but still they are not the buddies the media wants us to believe-just not possible if you are that big rivals) but I don't think fed likes novak.

I could be wrong of course but their relationship seems rather cold (see the interview when federer attacked novak for hitting the line in the MP against him.

I'm sure as well, but I think it's funny how quickly Federer turned to the media to stop this from getting out of hand.

Haven't heard him commentating, but I also remember him making snarky comments about Pete too.

and he failed in that too. Greg is an idiot.

As for Muzzah - Fed, it seems as if Fed isn't a Huge fan of Murray, Andy is often very complementary about Fed interviews, then again in public after matches etc they always share a word. Most of this relationship bullcrap is made up imo

Sensationalism sells and people eat that crap up. No surprise Rusedski is trying to stir up a sh!tstorm a day before the semis.

They may not be best friends on tour and that's understandable but that does not entail that there's serious beef between them either. I think the more turbulent period between them was back when Nole burst on the scene, 2007-2008 when his family declared that the "king was dead" after their AO semi.

PS: I don't think anyone but the players themselves can truly speak on this topic with any certainty. The problem is that even if there is some kind of beef between them, they may downplay it or even deny it.

Randy's always getting himself into trouble (I call him Randy, stops me getting confused with Ralph Fiennes), and he was such a baby when he got his fingers all cold that I had to chop them off for him.

I even cut my own off first to show him it wasn't so bad. It was a bit difficult to sew them back on afterwards, it was my first attempt at reconnecting nerve endings after all, especially since I was using my stumps and holding the equipment with my teeth, but I muddled through.

As my old student Winston Churchill used to say, "Keep Buggering On."


...Well, as I used to say, but he took credit for it once and I didn't have the heart to say otherwise, my boy had finally done good at the time.

Federer didn't "quickly" turn to the media, he didn't bring out his relationship with Novak out of nowhere, he was asked a question in his post match press conference which he answered, nothing more.

Fed and djocko do not like each other. It did not start from the davis cup. More like when djocko was doing his impersonations of everyone. And I get the feeling that fed does not think that djocko is a graceful champion. At first they did not have much bad blood. But as time went on it became obvious.

Just as obvious as murray being a nadal fanboy. Not a day goes by that he does not give an interview where he is not drooling over nadal. Remember the one when he said nadal is the greatest ever ?

I also think fed and nadals relationship isint as Lovable as the news make it .....It can never be especially when nadal came on the scene and started beating fed at the french. When you are the greatest it does hurt the ego albeit subconsciously when an upstart starts to go through you.

I dont think fed was as thrilled about nads on court behaviour too. That ridic...come on the fist clenching constantly the butt picking. It s quite vulgar when you are as smooth as swiss chocolate.

Roger and Rafa remind me of Prost and Senna. Roger is five years older than Rafa, just like Alain was five years older than Ayrton. And even the approach to their respective sports is/was similar.

Prost and Senna had a fierce rivalry and they certainly weren't friends but they had so much respect for each other and more importantly they defined each other. Neither of them would be held in the same regard if it weren't for their rivalry.

Prost retired in 1993 after winning his fourth Formula One Championship. He and Senna had a special bond but they realized it too late. Prost said once in an interview how Ayrton tried to persuade him to come back to Formula One, he knew it wasn't the same without Alain and only then they realized how much of an impact they have had on each other's career.

Sadly, on May 1 1994 Senna died in the race at Imola. Prost said that a part of him died that day too.

That's how I see Roger and Rafa. I think as soon as one of them retires the other will follow suit shortly after or at least it won't feel the same anymore.
That's why I hope we'll have the privilege to watch them play each other a few more years to come.

Rusedski also said after Sampras beat him in their Round of 32 match at the 2002 US Open that Sampras was a "step and a half too slow" and that Sampras would lose to Tommy Haas in his next match. Sampras went on to beat Haas, Roddick, Schalken and Agassi to take the title :lol:

one of the classic sporting fails for sure, up their with Alan Hansen's "you don't win anything with kids" quote regarding Man Utd and the league title. Man U naturally won the league. Though TBF Hansen has achived X400000X10(4) more than Greg in his respective sport so I let him get away with that one ;)

I find it quite humorous that we have to rely on commentators to supply us with supposed "rivalries and intrigues" between top players. Back in the day, players like Connors, Nastase, and McEnroe supplied that themselves :)

Lol I heard this before an Im sure that Sampras said back (I may be paraphrasing) - 'Well, I didn't need and extra step and a half against him'.
