Federer "gamesmanship" and Nadal gamesmanship+cheating were not the same.

I know he said it. I just don't understand why they don't understand. That was horrible, but he can do that and get away with it, because the pundits aren't going to hold his feet over the coals about it. They're all buddies and agents and what not. They'll laugh it off, or ignore it, and IMO, the fans will blindly follow.

Everything he does and says they deem as right, correct, and better. It's pretty sad, actually, but hey to each his own.
.Awww...poor Rafito the big bad officials/journos et al are out to get him.
I wonder why they fined AND criticised Roger when he used profanity at the USO though-They're all buddies afterall

NO HE WASN'T. QUIT the lies.I SAW that match again..he was gone for less than two minutes and was already BACK when the umpire called time.

As for how long he was waiting for the sun to set and the air to cool-anybody with the slightest amount of common sense would know not to take that seriously at all unless they really think one minute here and there at the most was going to make any difference at all.

Funny how you do the disappearing act everytime someone counters your argument and go and spout out the same lies in other threads.

Nadal fans are REALLY, REALLY clutching at straws.

He was gone way longer than 2 minutes. There is no specifically allotted time for bathroom breaks.

It would be nice to know exactly how long he was in there waiting for the sun to set and the air to cool down (his words).

Check the youtube vid of that portion of the match, in the series of vids of the whole match. He was gone for 2 minutes. :)

(Yes, the person making the video could have edited it, but they bothered to include the adverts. Also, he was gone in the vid for exactly 2 minutes, I doubt the person would have edited the video to be the perfect length of time for between sets.)

It was already pointed out to him, but he chose to ignore it, and is just trolling now.

Rankings mean little compared to number of Slams won. I am sure he is bawling his eyes out.

When you have 16 Slams you don't really need to win non-slams, especially "minor events like Estoril and Halle"

3) their idol is declining rapidly and is not considered a favourite for anything any more

Except Wimbledon, Australian and US Open...

4) their idol is called Whiffmeister even by the journalists, because he can't drive his racket into the ball properly

Ever heard of a bad bounce? That's the French, not the US Open, idiot...

Roger has in a FORMAL presser admitted that he dosen't take interviews with Courier seriously. But carry on believing what you want.

And what did he say anyway? What did I prove?
Anyone with a little bit of common sense will know that Roger wasn't expecting a slight shift in shadow that would occur in a span of less than two minutes to make ANY difference in the match at all.
And I saw that part of the match again.Roger wasn't even gone for two whole minutes. So can someone PLEASE explain to me where this gamesmanship occured?

And again please tell us-What admission of using gamesmanship are we talking about?
LOL The funny part is Roger is supposed to have admitted to using gamesmanship when he never actually used it in the first place

I no longer have the match. He said it. That's good enough for me. Whether he lied the first time (when he said it), or later when he denied it, people believe what they want to believe, right?

Why wouldn't he come back and say that after making such an omission on TV? Anyway, I don't want to turn this into a circular argument, because I believe he did exactly what he said, and no one's convincing me otherwise. And I'm not checking the weather for the sun's position on that day and time.

No. You're supposed to get fined for using profanity. Others players get fined all the time. They can be buddies all they want, but some things they just can't let that go.

This situation has nothing to do with Rafa.

The toilet break Fed took lasted 2 minutes, which is not over the time allowed between sets.

It doesn't matter how long he took. He admitted to gamesmanship. That's the bottom line. Everything else to me sounds like excuses.

Then again, people look at things differently. I happen to agree with Couch.

He admitted to no such thing.Obviously you don't even remember correctly what he said and are determined to hang on to one toilet break
Whatever

What did he say anyway? What admission are we talking about here?Like I said nothing in his tone or in his words indicated any seriousness(unless you took him seriously while he showed "one centimetre" on his finger with a grin). And again Roger has said in a presser that he dosen't take interviews with Courier seriously.
Their intervies,more often than not,are light-hearted.
Anyway, the gamesmanship never happened. So Nadal fans can believe what they want.

Of course it does.
You can't take the fact that poor Rafito was fined and criticised and are clinging onto an incident you don't even remember correctly.

That's why you resort to.."ooo they don't call Rogi out because they're all buddies" stuff.

First of all, fantastic bump, after 2 1/2 years.

Secondly, who made the assumption that the left side of the chair is traditionally reserved for the higher ranked player?

Some TV reporter. Is this some unwritten rule maybe? I wouldn't really know, but if you dont than it probably doesnt exist.

I have never heard of that in my entire life/career as an umpire. Now it could be that some tournaments (like in this case where they put the players' names on the towels) put the higher ranked player's towels on the left seat of the umpire, but did the players know it? Who knows. But to say it's "Tradition", I think that's BS.

Odd article on absolutely nothing--where the heck did these guys find this (non-existant) "tradition"?

Pure rubbish, I'm afraid.

Edit: did a bit of checking on the Internet:
2007 Wimbledon final--Nadal (lower-ranked than Federer) sat on the left
2008 Wimbledon final--ditto

So it looks like Wimbledon, the seat of tradition in tennis, doesn't know of this dubious "tradition". Big surprise here...

This needs its own thread.

Fed is a very juvenile individual.

Judging by your reaction, I guess you are, actually. This is either a hoax or someone who don't know what they're talking about, sosome checking would be advised before jumping on the anti-evil-Swiss bandwagon...

Nadal is such a diva, terrible sportmanship.

Watch the replay. It's usually tradition to sit in the chair with your name on it. But something like that won't stop Federer, as he went straight to the bench that had Djokovic's towel draped across it.

Moments later, when Djokovic walks out, his towel has magically moved to the other bench.

If only Federer was German rather than Swiss German, there's a joke about beach towels and benches in this somewhere.

Right, because so many of us noticed it the first time we watched it, and didn't have to go back and watch the ESPN3 replay after this stupid article came out.

It's also ridiculous to say that Djokovic seemed annoyed by it as he entered the stadium. What ever gave anyone that impression? Does anyone really think he cared? LOL. It's not the first stupid article Chris Chase has written, either.

It seems like it was an unwritten rule in this tournament. Every match the lower ranked player entered the court first and took the right side bench. I'm sure the players all knew it. I'm not sure if he did it with intention or not though.

Even if it was a genuine mistake, you can't blame Nole for being annoyed by it (again, if he was indeed). For us, it may mean nothing but it's a privilege after all, which Nole hasn't enjoyed that much.

Roger isn't peRFect after all. Everyone always bashes Rafa. They should give him a break. All of the players engage in sportmanship anyway, even the GOAT!
