Picture is not working, but I know which one you are referring to. Is it just me or does Nadal look sickly these days? He looks like the walking dead.

Clarky, did you see the pic of him with some weights, weakly giving a thumbs up? He looks absolutely miserable. In contrast, he looks happy in all of his pictures that don't involve tennis or training. In my opinion, he doesn't want to put in all of this work at this point in his career, especially since it all must be very painful. I'm sure he will give it his all on the courts though because he doesn't know how to do anything else.

Nadal has always hated the gym. Toni said years ago that he has to push Nadal to even walk into the gym. Nadal has always been addicted to swimming, and nothing else.

Nadal is the only player that complains about the surfaces like this. Federer certainly has no problem with it. Novak, Murray, are they unhappy with the amount of hardcourts on tour? To me Nadal and his uncle just come off as arrogant in this whole thing. They are upset that the world will not mold to fit their desires.

Federer is constantly complaining about the court speed.

I did see that picture and he did look like he'd rather be anywhere else but at the gym. He looked like death.

I have been saying he looks miserable for more than a year now. I think he lost his desire and passion for tennis several years ago and is now totally burned out. Nadal on court or training is a very, very different Nadal to the one we see when he's partying or doing anything that does not involve tennis. Since his passion is gone I don't think he will be on the tour after 2013. Couple that with his constant injuries and is spells nothing but doom.

Huh? Wherever did you hear that? Rafa doesn't like weight lifting but his trainer Joan Forcade has him set up on a very advanced program using almost every other training method and pieces of equipment known to sport and he works out diligently. And he doesn't like swimming very much...loves the water but isn't big on swimming and in fact, won't swim in deep water.

So he posts several pics of him working out at the gym, looking happy, but there's one pic where (apparently, I don't know which pic you're talking about) he doesn't and that's what you give importance to?.

Did you just notice he looks very, very different when doing non tennis things?, because everyone noticed that years ago. Absolutely nothing new about it.

Where? He never looks happy when doing anything related to tennis. He even looked sloppy and miserable when he was in Rotterdam recently doing something for charity.

In those pics of him smiling he was posting before returning to practice on the tennis courts.

Rafa likes playing tennis Clarky. I'm sure he does. When he did look miserable was when he had to withdraw from the Olympics and subsequent pictures.

Then he has a funny way of showing it.

And did you see the pics of him when he was in Rotterdam recently? He looks like he just rolled out of bed had to be dragged there. He didn't even look clean. He was a mess.

maybe rafa was in rotterdam 'in person' to look over the venue because he is going to be a surprise late entrant to the hc tourney there next feb..

he is going to ditch the acapulco clay and whatever and take on the fedster

I don't think that's possible considering he went there on short notice, and left even faster than he got there.

And since he was there for a charity event that involved little kids,he should still be clean when he shows up to meet them. Partying the night before is no excuse.

I actually noticed nothing wrong about how he looked when I saw the pics, but don't really remember them now.

I'm sure you won't see anything wrong with them if you look at them again, but I when I saw them I thought he looked sloppy and dirty. He usually doesn't look so gross, but for some reason he did in Rotterdam.

"So" gross?, lol, I'm pretty sure I've gotten the idea from other posts of yours that you're far from thinking Nadal looks "gross" ;)

So maybe he looked a little untidy. He did in RG too. Probably because of not shaving.

I don't think he's gross normally believe me. But for some reason he just looked unkempt, which is unusual.

I don't think so...
For that matter, he seemed pleased to think of when he'd played there before.

I don't know...he doesn't seem pleased to me at all.

I think so too. He always seems bummed out and miserable when he has to do anything related to tennis. I don't know how anyone can possibly say otherwise.

I'm not sure if it's because it's tennis related, to me it just seems like he's down to be interviewed in general and looked annoyed when the interviewer pressed on about him playing in Rotterdam next year.

He seemed pleased when he talked about playing there as a child.

I also thought he wasn't too happy to do the interview, and was just being polite.

They've probably asked him a 100 times while he was there if he's going to play there. The answer is obviously no, since he's trying to play less on hc and more on clay, which is basically what he said there. Still, I saw some article taking his merely polite "you never know in the future" answer in some interview as "Nadal wants to play on Rotterdam again".

He looked annoyed to the hilt just as he always does when he is forced to do anything tennis related. I wish he would just admit what his problem is and drop the act.

Rocky, Clarky, and library are right. I'm neutral on Nadal (don't love or hate him) and he seemed down, withdrawn, and miserable. Maybe he just didn't want to do the interview and it's not a reflection on his state of mind about tennis... but he doesn't look thrilled or even happy.

Oh for crying out loud. Must we go and dig up all the various videos and pictures of his very quick trip to Rotterdam? There are many shots of him looking very happy out on the court playing tennis with the kids - big smiles and lots of happiness from both him and the kids and Richard Krajicek. At the press conference...not this three minute one on one interview...he was perfectly genial and smiling and happy to be there to help his friend promote his foundation.

There are clips of him on the practice court in Mallorca where he's working hard and not at all miserable to be back playing tennis. There's one where his uncle Miguel Angel got out on the court to try and return his serve and they're taunting each other, Miguel Angel saying he'd get it back no problem and Rafa saying hah, like you have a chance and Rafa gets his competitive cloak on and rears back and rips three different serves that Miguel Angel couldn't even get his racquet close to and Rafa gloating and all of them having a laugh.

I'm not going to waste my time digging up all those videos, or all the interviews with Rafa and Toni talking about how good it was to get back on court to post here because it would be pointless. Clarky and the rest of the anti-Rafa faction will see and hear what they want to see and will continue to disparage Rafa in spite of all the evidence contrary to their delusions. Rafa is rich beyond his dreams and is fortunate to have a large loving family that he is very close to and a big circle of old good friends and a beautiful girl friend and esteem from fans and acquaintances and people around the world. His life is very very good and he has said often how happy he is, so he could quit tennis tomorrow and do very well but yet he's going back to a way of life that makes him miserable? I don't think so.

This post is a whole lot of wishful thinking on your part. Nadal looks miserable more often than not, and a few pictures of him cracking a smile doesn't change that fact.

All credibility lost with ****ism like this. Horrible fantardism from you and frankly, I am  for you.

Not really. Nadal has tons of contractual obligations he must fulfil. He cannot just up and quit at will or else he would have by now because he is miserable playing tennis. If you would come out of your **** fog you would see it too.

In addition to the fact that Nadal is usually a downcast interviewee (just look at any of his post-matches interviews any year of his career), Nadal has been absent from tennis since Wimbledon. How would you feel?

Others haven't made the generalizations you have from it.

Nope, I don't agree.

Maybe. We're all speculating, but you're doing it with a lot less base. You were also insisting he had really retired.

There's really no reason to think he hates tennis. For one, he says he loves it. He has kept playing for years despite a painful condition, and obviously putting a lot of work into it. He has always had money so he never needed it in that sense either.

I'm not sure why you say he hates it. He has always looked very different when playing tennis, focused, even fierce. Always.

Like what? That he looks like he's at a funeral everytime he has to do anything tennis related? To me he looks downright depressed and sad...like he's about to take another step off the cliff.

I said until I see him actually enter a tournament and play it that I will consider him retired. It was my own opinion, and I didn't force it on anyone else.

And you don't think he would say that to continue piling up money from playing tennis? He has also said that tennis is not his passion and that soccer is. I just don't believe he cares about playing tennis as much as he says he does, or as much as you think he does either.

If he doesn't need the money then why take sponsorship deals? Why play needless exos? It is all about the money for him, and I think it's naive to think he plays tennis just because he supposedly loves it. Do you think he took that embarrassing PokerStars deal so he can shout to the world how much he loves tennis? Totally ridiculous to think that. And money is a great motivator as well so I see no reason why he wouldn't play through pain to get paid. Like I said, he plays exos doesn't he? Or does the pain abruptly stop just for the exos and for nothing else? Lol.

Again, nobody looks like they are at a funeral the way Nadal does when he has to do anything related to tennis if they love what they're doing. Last year he started looking so unhappy on court at times I thought he might start crying. How can he possibly be enjoying what he's doing when he looks so miserable? I just don't buy the act from him about this.

He doesn't look like that to me. Have you always thought that?.

I didn't say you did. Thing is, you didn't want to believe him when he said he wasn't like you don't want to believe him when he says he love tennis.

He could also be saying it because he means it. That is the most likely reason as well.
He's said football is his passion, but he's never said tennis isn't also. Football is clearly his favourite sport, but that doesn't mean he doesn't love tennis. Federer has also said he likes football better, you know.

Because it's easy money. You'd take it too. That he doesn't need the money doesn't mean he won't take a lot of money offered for little effort.
Plus, he plays like, what, two exos a year?.

He wouldn't be playing tennis, putting the effort he puts into it, playing through pain, missing what he does for it, just for the money. It wouldn't be worth it with all he has already. That is not to say it isn't a plus. But if he didn't love playing tennis, he wouldn't go though all that trouble and would just have quit a long time ago.

He didn't look too pleased sometimes last year. He kept losing to the same guy over and over, something that had never happened to him before. By any account, he's a highly competitive guy, used to win for a very long time. How pleased did you expect him to look?.
