Janowicz is already down 3-0 to Bolelli. Never would have guessed that.

Really? The guy never did anything good and then was on fire during Paris. You could tell by his reaction after every match that he himself had no idea how he was playing so well. And if you know something about tennis you can see that his technique and movement aren't good, it's all way too rigid and stiff. You can't hit like that and be good at tennis. He's a bit like Rosol in that aspect. Just hitting everything has hard as he can.

Lol so I know nothing about tennis? The guys serves are massive. He's playing Simone Bolelli, who last I checked muddled through challengers for most of last year. He also lost to Janowicz in the first round of Wimbledon last year in 4 sets.

It's impressive that not one seed on either the men's or women's side of the tournament have lost yet. Monaco will probably be the first.

hopefully not ... much rather seen monaco in more matches than kuznetsov!

meanwhile ... good on ya, Baker, mate!

Why do you take what I say in the most negative way possible? I didn't mean it in an offensive way. You could be someone that just likes to watch tennis without playing it yourself, thus knowing nothing about technique.

Lol I've forgotten more about technique than you know, but okay, you must be right.

Alright, time for bed. Good luck to Hewitt, although I doubt he's any match for Tipsarevic. An upset isn't out of the question, though. Hewitt is a two time Slam champ after all.

Good night everyone.

Jerry not looking so good right now. Way too many unforced errors and he's hardly dictating against Bolelli.

They're still on serve in the second, though. Fognini is on serve in the second, after getting bageled in the first.

Not any more, Jano breaks. Nevertheless, he looks sluggish in his footwork. It might be enough to take care of Bolelli, but likely won't be in the next round.

Playing Devvarman in the next round. Assuming Janowicz wins this, I don't see him having a problem with Somdev. Even moving the way he is now.

Didn't look at his draw beforehand. You're right though, Somdev is an excellent second round opponent.

GSM Janowicz. Performance was messy but sufficient. Showed his talent, but also made many errors.

Even though they're on a show court, I'm fairly certain there's next to no one watching Anderson and Lorenzi. Understandable though, considering Hewitt is playing.

I think Monfils will do it in 5 sets. It'll be fun to watch either way. Great to see him back and hopefully he'll stay healthy.

On an unrelated note, Ana Ivanovic is almost pretty enough for me to want to watch WTA matches.

The keyword being almost. Within 10 minutes you'll be reaching for that remote.

any of you guys watching Baghdadis vs Ramos? Pretty entertaining. Looks like another 5 setter.

Baghdadis is leading 2 sets to one, but Ramos is up a break in the fourth and is serving at 5-3.

So I wonder who else they'll put on Rod Laver Arena on the top-half days (apart from obviously Djokovic) now that there are no Aussies remaining in the top half now... nor are there any "big name" players. Berdych? Ferrer? Can't think of any others.

Baghdatis is pretty popular here.If he gets through his opening match,he could get a center court slot.

After the first day, there were eight bagels, five of them coming from the women's draw.

Four tiebreaks have ended 7-0, three of them have been on the men's side.

Zero retirements.

21 sets have ended 6-1.

25 sets have gone to tiebreaks.

This concludes the status report for day 1.

Well my bracket is in shambles after all my dark horse picks turned out to be small ponies, but that was an entertaining first round.

^^I lost a few points thanks to Grigor, Goffin, and Troicki. Nothing I'm too worried about though. I did have Kevin Anderson knocking out Juan Monaco which is nice since Pico is already out. Assuming Anderson plays well he shouldn't have much trouble now getting to the 4th round or wherever I had him.
