That's what I'm thinkin'. You icin' the blade? Or going full-experiment mode with the 200?

Ice/OGSM in the Blade

Plays just like 4g, except more spin, a little less comfort and lux feel, but the price is sick.

I am going to put the same setup in the 200 so all variables are the same. I do love the soft feel of the 200, but I think I am probably at my best with the Blade. It will be fun to pull out an mfil now and then since they are so similar, it doesnt throw me off.

Dude who reviewed it seemed syked about it. Has the potential for being the cross string. And while I like TB, I can't hang for more than 1/2 hour with it. Too stiff and when it crashes, it burns and dies.

Can't remember who it was (dgoran?!??) who said 4g is like expensive pre-stretched BBO. To a certain extent, he's right. The feel is definitely right there, pre-stretched BBO but 4g lasts a lot longer and seems firmer mainly because it holds it's tension that much longer.

That feeling that BBO has in the first hour is fantastic and 4g holds that throughout it's life-span. It's almost translucent looking when strung-up and held up to a light. Definitely made up of something different.

Here's hoping TB soft will live up to expectations. Raining here atm and don't want to pay court fees tonight because tomorrow we're expecting 60 and sunny. Excited to try the modded blade and this time bring a video camera. Haven't seen myself hit in a while.

60 and sunny in DC!?

In LA it's 50 degrees right now. I'll be getting the (pseudo) East Coast feel tonight when I go out for an evening hit. Supposed to be in the mid 40s.

Speaking of stringbeds, I always feel more brittle-ness and stiffness out of stringbeds when it's colder. In warmer weather, feels much more natural, more pockety.

To Chizzle's point, yeah, Prestige seems to respond nicely to soft strings. Usually not a big fan of Head Sonic Pro for example but it really feels nice and plush in a Prestige.

try TB crossed w/ Iontec Hexa 1.20. JGads can weigh in on how it feels compared to full TB and how long it lasts for him.

^^^

Be careful..

TB rocks though. I'd wait on the TB soft.

My friend knows nothign about new strings LOVED Iontec with OGSM. He may buy a reel. It's really good for the price. I didn't like the lack of feel, but if I went full poly, Id have to consider using it as a cross.

I've had the tb/hexa setup and 4g/ogsm in identical sticks for the past month - one in each of my standard length 231.1 tgk radicals. Believe it or not, the tb/hexa bed actually felt softer all the way through from start to now. That's how much the iontex hexa softens up the feel. (both with same yonex damp)

That being said, anyone like Klem who has had legitimate shoulder issues and such... I mean, why not just wait until Tour Bite Soft just to be sure. That review says it's due for release in February.

But that hexa cross -- softens up the bed, gives the ball a nasty 'funk', and prolongs the stringbed playability considerably compared to when I was going full Tour Bite in sticks beforehand. I haven't had the 'off-the-cliff' stringbed drop from Tour Bite around hour 8 or 9 that I used to. Now restringing after about 16-20 hours. Yes, I notice a drop in playability in the last five, six hours, but it's not the off-the-cliff dive from before. May also have a lot to do with MD's JayCee method stringing technique, too.

Also, I used to have tennis elbow issues in the past. At one point my shoulder really flared up but it wasn't serious.... haven't had a hint of TE or any arm issues in many months now. knock on wood.

^Gotta to say, I've tried TB a handful of times. Once in a PresMid, full bed, twice in a exoT full bed and thrice hybrid job with x-1 mains in an MgRad.

Well, it sawed through the x-1 in no time, even in an 18x20 pattern. And PP's right, it takes me back to rehabbin' my shoulder. Just a nasty feeling.

Crossed with a soft-poly? Hmmmmm.... will have to check that out, but might want to steer clear.

forgot abt your shoulder...bummer about that for sure.

TB w/ Multi? yeah, it'll def saw right through that multi lickity split.

the printed JayCee method that is available from the web is the foundation for my stringing, but i have modified it. i would love to see John Elliot string a racquet firsthand to see exactly how he does it because i have a strong feeling he does more than what's in the word doc circulating on the internet. The modifications i have made to the printed method allow me to string up your sticks at much lower tensions than you were using before but maintain the same stringbed stiffness and feel.

Fell off the wagon this week big time. It was coming...

I'm back to the Prestige dangit. I bought a FXP MP for $20, and added a new grommet, Prince ResiThin grip and a buttcap (was missing).

That along with 2 new IGPMP25s.

I have issues.

Went a little nuts. Strung the FXP with BlackCode 1.18 and X1BiPhase 1.18 in crosses. I'm thinking that is gonna feel great but it may last all of 90 minutes. :)

Strung my first 25 with RPM 1.20 and Timo 1.10 cross. Again that may be extreme but I plan to tweak from there. Perhaps 1.17 Timo next. I do know the 1.20 and 1.10 feels nice, and adds a touch of pop to the IGPMP.

Issues....

TB doesn't seem as stiff to me as others I've tried, but again I think it depends on the stick.

I think I've changed racquets so many times, to use my opinion of strings would be foolish - hah.

You're right. It's amazing how different Tour Bite can feel in different sticks. You know how so many racquets are described as 'string sensitive'? Tour Bite is wildly "Racquet sensitive." Put it in one, it feels lovely, full, even a crispy 'soft.' Put it in another it feels like razor blades or barbed wire. Very different.

I just got back from playing in the cold. Regarding the earlier string chat, have to say, this 4G/ogsm bed really feels better and better the more I use it, the more it wears. Durability on this 4G is sensational, and the control is just awesome. Getting plenty of power when I'm cracking the ball, too, so it's not like it's too dead. Very impressed by this new Lux offering, indeed. Think I like it better than ALU given the durability -- in the first few hours, ALU feels great but then goes away. This 4G gets better and better.

Probably about ten hours now. The last few weeks, since I was edging toward the tb/hexa beds and it was easier to go back and forth between them instead of this one, found myself veering a lot more towards those and just hitting this one about 20-40 minutes at a time while the other sticks I was using about an hour at a time..

At first the 4g bed felt more firm and stiff to me than the tb/hexa, but the way it's broken/settled in over time is just fantastic, and the playability actually seems improved now to those first few hours. As I said, the last few times it's seemingly improved each time in feel and shots. Love the directional control. Ball goes right where you aim.

With either bed, I'm starting to get into a great serve groove with my standard-length .1s. I can snap it through the contact zone a little easier than my extended goat stick, and the ball is just really jumping and hitting each part of the box I'm aiming for. Fun, fun serving stick. Really loving both of my tgks.

also: lead in the throat instead of the hoop. new experiment that I'm liking very much.

4G holds tension very well. if anything is "wearing in", i'd say it's the OGSM which does lose tension. interestingly enough, when i have a stick w/ a full bed of OGSM, the stringbed plays best just before the strings break.

Sounds a lot like how NXT played back before I changed to poly. That stuff played great the more and more it frayed, often playing better and better until it simply snapped.

Good news with the ogsm losing tension, still staying very much in control of the ball and not shooting long, but at the same time very powerful. It's in a really nice zone at the moment.

Awesome thanks for the info on the 4G, I've been planning on stringing it up on my next restring.

Wondering how it will compare toy current Lux M2 Plus. Will post my findings. Cheers

Gads? Are those tgk's of yours Radical molds or Prestige?

And yes, 4g for me has taken the #1 spot for crosses. 2nd place is alu-power still. Tried other polys (kirschbaum, weissCanon,ProSupex, mantis, etc.) tried to go cheaper, it's just not worth it in the long run. Other polys aren't made the same or have that classic lux feel, only if you find that perfect hybrid, that one combination that makes the other poly. But 4g by a mile, really want to try a full bed of it under 50lbs.

PP?..................................................

PP, Dgoran, or anyone with a blade handy!

Just want to confirm I'm not hearing things. A light tap around the top half of the hoop with your finger nail might reveal a higher pitch at 10&2 o'clock. At least on mine it does.

Could this mean the weight is placed mainly at 10&2 on the hoop? For such a light frame to have such a hefty swingweight, there has to be a significant amount of grams in the hoop.

PP, I've never met a bass player without great ears, test it out, drummers are known for being tone-def. ;)

Radicals, 18/20 pattern.

I'd imagine that a full bed of the 4g might feel pretty 'tough,' but MD and others have described it as a very good cross and I'm of course now liking it as a main in a hybrid. Might try it as a cross in the future. Very nice to get so much good life out of a string. Nice job on this one, Lux.

Speaking of Radicals, btw, stayed up late for the Tomic-Anderson final in Sydney last night, a warm-up of sorts for the lost sleep I'll be getting over the next two weeks.

Anyway, Tomic looks like a whole new player. Was HITTING the ball, not pushing it as much as he did last year. Looked fantastic. Has ditched the Yonex racquet and gone to back to his old Head Radical mold, blacked out for now, per VsBab. Whatever he's doing, the kid looked great. Anderson played great, too. A very good match.

klem, given your rebuilt bionic shoulder, i probably wouldn't recommend trying a full bed of 4G unless it's at low tensions. TB/Hexa is softer and plusher than a full bed of 4G. 4G is a pretty stiff string. when i string it, it barely stretches when tension is pulled.

Was just looking at the latest Chris Edwards Vlog of new frames... New Speed Pro - I love the specs - 11.7, closed pattern in a big face for forgiveness, healthy upper 320s sw, but just like we were talking about, high stiffness, 68. Shame. If that thing were softer it could be nice.

Also, the new PB10 Mid. Could this be a Klementine Special? That's what I thought about looking at the specs - midsize but more forgiving at 93, lighter weight/sw than before, box beam (!), and a low flex that would be more like the exo tours you love... The claim on the description is that they crisp up the feel from last version, which could be a good thing. I liked the PB10mid but like a lot of Volkls felt a bit 'wobbly', almost too flexy for its thin beam. Interesting looking frame.

It's soft, muted but the 16x19 pattern livens the feel up. Throw in a crunchy poly in the crosses (like alu) and it becomes crispy.

I'll liken it to a more `connected' rdis 200. Ball feel is extraordinary because you can actually feel something. Haven't played with that many Yonexesexes but take Gads and my opinion, its a 2 thumbs up thumper feel wise.

Gads, Klem - thanks for your thoughts on the Ti80. A less muted and connected rdis 200 is just what I'm after. Time to buy another frame.

True. Very true. Have only tried it with a soft multi in the mains thus far and will continue to do so.

Almost a year after surgery and I'm just now feeling 95% comfortable with the shoulder. Still only serve at 80-90%. Not gonna push it as I did years ago. And definitely no more hockey for me! The lockout helped in keeping me off the ice. See no evil, do no evil.

Wow. This is NOT good. Just bought a chiuaua that my wife's been wanting. Together with the first vet bill, I'm $1,500 in the hole. Bills, food, etc. I'm out until next month........ unless I call T-dub up for trade-in? Then I'll have some explaining to do. Might be worth it.

Saw the re-air this morning of the tomic/anderson final. Great match-up. Epic slice fest. Defense. Offense. It was fun to watch. Anderson's wife is smokin'.

Had a chance to hit with the APD+ 2013 yesterday. The feel was a lot smoother and more solid, though it felt just as stiff or stiffer. This was with a full bed of Addiction, the frame is definately more solid but so who knows if the APD2013 will be just as smooth w/poly (by comparison, even the PDR2012 was buzz free with full Addiction but buzzed with full poly). The lower SW felt a lot easier to adjust to with the + length but I felt a lack of mass during hitting. I didn't find anything special on serve or groundstrokes, its still pretty much an APDGT just w/better feel. I had the option to play with the standard length today stock weight w/unknown strings, but with the long drive I passed on it. For me its too similar to my APDGT so I'll be skipping this one. You might like the '13 if you are satisfied w/your APD but just want better feel.

Have to say the stiffness kinds of puts me off the new APDs. It's one thing I couldn't get to like with the PD 2012, despite being very impressed with the enhanced solidness and ease of swinging. Anyhow, re the APD, I think for my tastes I may struggle to ever find one I like better than the black original.

Talking of which, I haven't played it in a while, so I fancy a little APD Original - Juice 100 match up. I've definitely settled into the J100. I'm happy with how easy and fast it is to swing. I think the placement is better on g/strokes than with APD/PD. Spin is very good. I think it serves with a load of zip and pop (like a PD). But, yes, the RA is also well up there on here as you know. And, well, sometimes I just feel I'd prefer a few more 'player's frame' attributes (same old story :) ). Also have to say I still think just in terms of trajectory/booming oomph/whatever my APD is numero uno. Anyhow, will be interesting to contrast now I've laid off the rafa stick for a while.

What's your main stick right now, Ray?... Extreme 2,0 Pro ultimately not up to scratch for you?... Anything else catching your eye?...

Oh, BTW, have you entered the notorious 'steam room' yet lol?!

So happy Australia is full on. I'm in espn heaven with the main coverage on the tube occasionally espn3 on my computer when there's an outside court match I want to check out.

Also can't believe one of the results thus far from one of those youngsters I was looking out for. (avoiding spoiler). Was quite wrong on that one. And so it goes.

And yes, Gads,Fuji, it was a disappointing performance from the youngster. But I'm not surprised. He's never really lived up-to his expectations (as big as his nick-name suggests) in any slams. Seems to always get knocked out in the first round.

My impressions from the first day, on the men's side, was 'hey, these matches are lasting longer than anticipated'. The favorites won... but aren't breezing by their first round opponents as in years' past.

I think I have finally gotten to where I have a loose arm every time on my strokes. What a difference. I played next to some college players last night and noticed - these guys and girls don't all hit insanely hard, but they have that big huge clean contact sound over and over. It comes from that loose arm and torso twist. Once I got it going, the ball contact was sounding huge and the pace was heavier.

Finally got to where I do as well a lot more often. Effortless power now. Getting it going on serve too, which is also an eye opener.

^Nice. I'm constantly working on that. Loose, loose form and just a tad bit of contraction upon hitting, then back to loose. PP, you're correct, on serve it's day and night. That looseness starts in the legs and transfers throughout body. It's fun lining it up with your body.

Was watching the Ravens/Broncos playoff game on saturday and the analyst made a comment about Anquan Boldin, how he catches the ball with his eyes, not his hands.

Which can completely carry over to tennis. In fact, that loose form helps making contact using your eyes easier. When the body is loose and timing is on, the eyes hit the ball.

Agassi was the master in this regard. Smooth, loose and impeccable timing. That's why he was so good at picking it up on the rise.

It is just crazy how loud a racquet can be once you get this down.

RHs,

Just curious, what are some ppls fav extended frames you've ever played with? Gads' tales of the 'stick of Zeus' (which is fractionally longer than standard size, I believe) has got me recalling how I do seem to get that consistent groundstroke depth I like and better serve leverage with slight addition of length. Reach and 2hbh also is generally easier too. So, am again pondering the eternal qsn of whether I shouldn't be putting some efforts into checking these out properly.

BTW, I really liked the Gonzo stick - the superb PC+ but too damned hefty. Same with the Rad TT XL. Same re the PSTGT+. I've always liked the PD+ but stiff and not great control.

Some Head frames??... I'm not so clued up on their slightly longer than standard size offerings are.

Anyhow, any plus size racs you good 'holics may care to speak highly of?

Sweet looking release. Thin beam, tight (or open) pattern, lower flex than the usual Tecnifibre stiffness? Very, very nice.

Recovering from a very late night watching Monfils-dolgopolov. Shot making quality was absurd. That was about as much fun as one could possibly have watching a tennis match. Glad to have Monfils back, he's a showman in a sport that could use a few more. But he genuinely played very well and served out of his mind - 5 straight aces to open the match! If you missed and can find highlights, highly recommended.

This is bad, bad news for me. What lovely specs! Flex and beam width. 98sq.in., instead of the typical tecnifibre 95. Again, (just like the 1st gen speeds), why make the 16x19 pattern stiffer than the 18x20? Just don't understand that.

Ross,
Don't know of any Head sticks (currently) that are extended, except for these ProStocks floating around, if you're lucky enough to get a hold of. They use to make extended prestiges as well.

Can't groove with XLs, don't know if my height/arm span have anything to do with it? They just don't gel with me.

The 315 sounds sweet if it is flexing at 61. I wonder why it is 315 though? A customizable stick should be less than that. Basically it will take around 4 grams on the head to get the SW somewhat decent, then you will want to rebalance the handle and suddenly it's over 12 ounces.

^ Agree. If it's going to be that heavy (315gr unstrung) the sw should be bumped up (301sw for the 16x19.. really?) The sw on the 18x20 seems nice as a platform, 309.

But, again, why make the 18x20, stiffer than the 16x19? The 18x20 string bed will feel automatically stiffer than it's 16x19 counter-part. Head did the same cr@p with the speeds. Don't understand this logic?!!?

I'll be ordering one up. Haven't been this excited about a racquet coming out in a long time.

Check. That's a leather grip on the t-fight 315 ltd. Which means a swap for a thin syn.grip could push them down to 305 unstrung. More room for modding.

Great for me because I'm starting to dislike leather grips all together and much prefer the feel of thin syn.grip. Racquet bends a lot more and it's more comfortable.

I dont think one actually is stiffer. I think it's just QC. But 61 is a wonderful flexpoint. Oh man. 61-65 seems to work best for me, but I do like how soft my Mfil feels at 61 and the blend of soft and firm like the Blade at 65.

The work to get that tfight's SW up to where I can do the loose arm swing on serve and groundies is probably too tough for me to mess with. I like how I can make the Blade heavier just by leading up the throat and handle.

Good point on that leather grip though..that changes it to a 305 if you dropped to something like a Bab skin feel.

I'd do 6 grams at the top with no layer..just go from 10 to 2.

Then another 6 around the handle. That may do it.

This is bad, bad news for me. What lovely specs! Flex and beam width. 98sq.in., instead of the typical tecnifibre 95. Again, (just like the 1st gen speeds), why make the 16x19 pattern stiffer than the 18x20? Just don't understand that.

Yeah, basically the same specs as the Ti80 lite. I think the 58 vs. 61 stiffness showing between drill patterns is just random QC fluctuation showing through in the particular sticks TW has measured. I bet the two drill patterns are meant to be identically specced.

You guys are probably spot on, it's probably just QC issues.

My soiree with the PS90 actually had me feeling confident about a sub-330 sw stick with a high static weight. Plow was there but it was just so maneuverable compared to other 90s, especially on serve.

I'm so stoked about this stick, did I mention that?

The 315 sounds sweet if it is flexing at 61. I wonder why it is 315 though? A customizable stick should be less than that. Basically it will take around 4 grams on the head to get the SW somewhat decent, then you will want to rebalance the handle and suddenly it's over 12 ounces.

True. Plus I think it said it comes with a leather grip, so if you don't like leather, there's more adjusting to account for the loss of weight there though that's not the biggest issue as you could just lead up the grip.

I've been liking a touch of lead in the throat of my standard length tgks. Doesn't affect the SW as much, I don't think, but adds some more pop. Perhaps this could be doable on these Tecs.

Man, some interesting new releases. New 18/20 Speed has really nice specs aside from high stiffness rating (and an improved hoop shape to the wide-bodied previous release), the Volkl X10 Mid appears to be a much more user friendly and crisper frame than the PB10, and these Technifibres. If I wasn't so happy with my tgks I'd be a racaholic mess right now.

At this stock balance, after adding 6 grams from 10 to 2 the stick would still be less polarized than a Blade 98, and more headlight. Not sure why you'd need to counterbalance at all, unless you prefer depolarized and very headlight, old-school players' frames.
