The only real threat to Murray was Delpo and he is out. He is a lock for the semis now. Once he gets there, anything can happen in the next two matches based on that day's form, can't really predict much based on the earlier rounds.

Murray said his timing was off in practice yesterday and today.
Maybe due to a lack of practice conserving energy for his last match on that 40 degree heat day has a little to do with it.
Fact is if he doesn't get his timing back soon then he probably won't reach the semis.

Murray below par - said he was poor in practise yesterday too. Still - he's in R4 without dropping a set.

Meanwhile, in other news - Cilic and Delpo are eliminated within 10 minutes of each other. If Bernie can somehow beat Sexi, then I may well do a man wee.

Whats going on with the seeds today? Delpo looking fed up and losing the first 2 sets and now murray seems like he just isnt in the mood, is it hot there today or maybe very humid and thats whats getting to them?

Also this match is Murray's to lose, he needs to keep the power up, berankis isnt coping with the pace murray injects into some of his shots and is making alot of UE's

Could they be privately depressed Nadal isn't playing? I mean its not that far fetched. Someone you respect and admire is down can be quite heartbreaking. I was pretty down too when I heard Nadal as missing this tournament. I felt the same way when Del Potro injured his wrist and countless other unfortunate injuries occur. I get really depressed. I know some people dont feel this. But a few players do. We all know that Del Potro has a really good heart and is down to earth and pretty humble, so its probably alot easier for a fellow of similar iberian decent to be sad about his compatriot.

He was widely tipped for great things a few years ago. A talented boy - consistency seems to be an issue though.

A second future maybe? With more consistency.
He's the sort of player if you're even slightly off he can be a nightmare to play.

He will get into groove in the next couple of matches. He wasn't exactly in scorching form in the early rounds of Wimbledon, was he ? And yet he had a good run there.

What a stinker from Andy yet he still won in straights. I still think he's going to make the final, but he's got to pick it up if he wants to trouble Cvac at all.

Saw Berankis playing for the first time....I like his game. Always heard about his hype, now I see why. Hope he will get better and go up the rankings.

what a waste half of murray he is playing nobodies while fed is playing tomic who just defeated djoker exho or not

Lol...at the start of this thread, people were saying that Berankis was too hot for Murray to handle. Now that Murray has beaten him, he becomes a 'nobody'!:)

As for Tomic, he is 0-3 v Federer who straight-setted him when they met at the same stage of the AO this time last year. He is also 0-3 v Djokovic in ATP-recognised matches (exhos don't count) and 0-1 v Murray and Nadal. He has yet to beat any of the top 4 players in ATP-recognised matches.

Agreed and I think Andy knows this better than anybody. He was furious with himself during the second set shouting "Do something!" He often seems to struggle against guys he hasn't played before, especially the obviously talented ones like Berankis who play with no pressure and have nothing to lose!

Nonetheless, he has yet to drop a set after 3 matches and from now on he will face guys he has played often before and knows only too well. Let's see if this means he will up his game and play more like the Murray who won the Olympics and the USO!

Cheers. Very impressed with Berankis.
Reminds me of Hewitt. Maybe one for the future?
makes me think about hewitt too...

i would like to see him play nishikori... it could give some well-paced entertaining rallies ! :)
(i see they met once last year at atlanta... with nishikori winning 64 67(7) 64)

disappointing result, by the way.

If Murray's shoulder doesn't heal up quick I don't think you'll be disappointed for too much longer.

Unfortunately, I was right. That might explain some of his terrible display today...
Is tennisearth.com a valid source? That would be unfortunate to not be 100%.

Read Berankis knows his game because they practice a lot together. That makes sense. Berankis had some impressive wins in LA last yr - before getting nervous in the final and getting trounced by Querrey.

Not sure how good the source is but I noticed Murray seemed to be having problems with it at the start of the match and would maybe explain his poor form today.

He made no mention of any shoulder problems in his post-match interviews. I didn't notice him holding it or touching it at all during the match.

Andy said his shoulder was bothering him during the first set, but that it was fine after, so no need to worry. It just wasn't his day. He still won in straight sets though. They say that's the mark of a Champion. A few years ago this could've easily gone to 5. I for one, never felt he was losing at any point in the match. Not even when he failed to serve it out.
