So apart from Barcelona, this week we also have the 250 ATP Tournament in Bucharest.
Started today with Vesely knocking out Jeremy Chardy in the 1st Round as Grigor Dimitrov is favorite to win this year followed by Youzhny, Monfils and crowd favorite Gilles Simon.

Damn, can't find that shirt Grigor is wearing for my size ( XL! )

Nieminen also beat Leonard Mayer in a 3rd set tie break.

Other participants: Pospisil, Seppi, Mahut and Federer's nightmare from Ukraine: Serghey.
Rosol is also back after winning his maiden ATP Tournament back in 2013.

We also found out Gilles is a great table tennis player:

Not impressed?
We have a fleet of Mercedes C Klasse, while tournaments like the Australian Open carry the players from the hotel in poor mens Kia.

Nice thread, very well-made.

Would like to see either Dimitrov, Monfils, or Pospisil win. I have no hope for Vasek though, given his recent form and injuries this year.

Not really. Nole is my favorite player. I like the rest of the top 8 to a lesser degree. My least favorite are currently Raonic and Isner. Rosol is interesting to me due to his unique game. He pretty much hits the pi$$ out of everything. Never seen a guy hit so hard so often.

Fair enough, your avatar is a little misleading though

Federer's my favorite, also like others like Nadal, Delpo, Stanimal, The Dog, The Fog, The Gulb, I just like tennis and contrasting styles. Anyway, yeah Raonic and Isner won't last long in the Top 10, Raonic might stay a little longer, but I think Big John will be out soon.

As for Rosol, he's ok I guess. Cool highlights, but he's playing Simon, anyone looks like they hit hard against him. I find Rosol kind of boring though, his strokes aren't that great to watch and he is very 1 dimensional. Interesting how Rosol isn't seeded when he is ranked higher than Nieminen, probably just changed recently. Lukas might end up losing to The Colonel in the SF, or Simon in the QF, hasn't been all that great this year.

You bet. Good for Veselý to play against a top top opponent and could be a good test for Gregor as well to see how he deals with the pressure from a (lefty) younger player.

Yeah, I think the surface is to Vesely's advantage...most of his points come from Challenger events on red clay while Dimitrov hasn't flourished on the dirt yet. Could be a close one but Grigor should prevail.

So far today:

Rosol - Volandri 6-1 7-6
Istomin - Belluci 7-6 7-6 ( with a ton of breaks in the 1st set and no breaks in the 2nd set ).

Carlos Berlocq 6-0 in the first set with Andreas Seppi and is losing the match 1-4 in the 3rd set after losing the 2nd 6-2

Didn't go today, will probably go tomorrow to see Dimitrov v. Vessely and Rosol v. Nieminen.

Monfils and Simon will also start tomorrow.

PS: I simply love the evening/night games! Can't think why bigger tournaments don't have some basic floodlights, after spending a day in the sun watching games, cooling off with the last 2 in the evening is very pleasant!

Mannarino, Mahut and Pospisil out to Copil, Mathieu and Ungur already.

Interesting to see Pospisil was Marius Copil's partner in some Futures Tournament played in Arad, Romania.

So Ungur knocked out 2 Pospisil's in two consecutive games.

Pospisil had a long medical break after set 1 which he won. Then lost the last 2 sets. It appears that he still has the back injury...not looking good ....

Geez, Pospisil needs to take a break and recover from his injury. Pretty sure he's on a match losing streak, just going to get worse and worse if he keeps playing.

But not so interesting after set 1. Pospisil took an extensive medical time out to have his back worked on. He's been carrying this injury for months. Doesn't bode well for the year.

Huh??? What does Pospisil have to do with Vesely vs Dimitrov?

We had some nice games today.

First, at 13:00, Rosol started powerfully against Nieminen leading 4-0 in the 1st set.
Nieminen was there in the 2nd but missed some chances.

Then Simon took on Hanescu. I don't like Victor, especially after the spitting incident at Wimbledon and it's not the only time he acted like a fool, he seems a dark person who acts as a typical spoiled person.
So I was happy to see Gilles come back. He will play Rosol again on Friday after losing to him last year in the semi's when he was very disappointed not to defend his title.
Then Grigor had a great 1st set with Jiri, decided on tie break where Jiri leaded 5-2 but Dimitrov came back and took the set in style the Federer way.
Jiri is a good player, he's better at 20 than Grigor 2 years ago.

Yes, I saw the whole thing. When Rosol is in the zone he really is, lol. Second set was not as good as first but good enough. I have seen practically all Nieminen's matches, for obvious reasons :))) and gotta say that he seldom gets outplayed totally but today 1. set against Rosol was one of them.

There were quite a few fans from Bulgaria yesterday to see Dimitrov.
There are a couple of Bulgarian cities closer to Bucharest than Sofia so for many it's not a long trip.

Hoping Gilles can break out of his slump here at one of his favorite tournaments. Going to be a tall order against Rosol with the way he is playing recently.

Good to see PHM this deep in an ATP Tour level event again. The guy has talent but injuries have set him back from reaching into the top 10. Right now he's gonna crack the top 100 for the first time in a while with this QF or better performance. Time is ticking though...he's just a bit younger than Rogi.

Rosol comes through 7-6 6-2 against Simon. Good stuff from the big guy. Why can't he show this form outside of Bucharest and Wimbledon 2nd round?

Simon played very badly especially on important points with no confidence and timing, Rosol just played decent tennis in bad conditions today.

What a 2nd set tie break between Mathieu and Monfils.
5-0 and 6-2 for JH, 6 match points and 10-8 for Gael.
Maybe the match of the week in tennis.

Disappointing that Gael had to retire. The man has been plagued with injuries the past few years. I don't think I have ever seen a player roll his ankle while walking out to play a match. Hope he can recover soon.

Dimitrov def. Rosol 7-6(2), 6-1 to win the title in Bucharest, 3rd title overall, 2nd title this year. 1 ATP500 and 2 ATP250s. On a side note, Sharapova also won the title in Stuttgart beating Ivanovic 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, going to be a good night ;)
