Let me rephrase by saying I dislike the depiction of aliens in this way, and ill-treating them in a manner that we would not tolerate treatment of another human (or even animal).
Does that make amends ?
django unchained...great movie,i never thought white people committed so many atrocities against blacks, they were treated so badly.I enjoyed the last part when django butchered every one..
^^ well, they certainly did commit countless atrocities, but the strange thing here is that you'd come to this conclusion from a movie that's entirely fictional.
If you enjoyed Moon you should check out another Sam Rockwell gem called Choke. It is hilarious and weird at the same time... it's about an in-therapy sex addict who intentionally chokes on food at restaurants to earn both money and sympathy.
Zero Dark Thirty- Very good. Especially the last half hour. 9/10
Hunger Games- Entertaining. 9/10
Silver Linings Playbook- Hilarious. J-Law and Brad is awesome! 9 or 10. *can't decide*
21 Jump Street- Funny. 8/10
Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters- The hell?! I watched it because I like Gemma Arterton. Hmm...more like 6 or 7/10
Agreed, yet Star Trek 2009 wasn't very Star Trek but it was a hundred times better than Into Darkness.Star Trek Into Darkness.
This felt to be amongst the worst Star Trek film ever made by true trekkie standards - and that is a tall order, there were a couple of shockers back in the day. It was way too Transformers-ish in the chases/battles imo, too standard sci-fi film and not enough of what historically made Trek films different.
I am really in two minds over dubbing and subtitles. In movies that have a lot of conversation, its hard to see the movie if you are watching the subtitle all the time. Example: About Elly (an Iranian movie).
Often the subtitles are by some Joe on the internet who does a quick half-hearted translation missing out the humor, the nuances, the sarcasm etc. I saw the Millenium Series recently and suspect the subtitles must have missed a lot.
Sometime i have struggled to figure who is saying what. Just saw Criminal Lovers the other day (subtitles) and could not tell who was saying what lines.
IIRC, I saw Spirited Away and it was dubbed, almost felt like they were speaking English.
I have recently seen "mud" "42" and "oblivion". Mud was far and away the best
It can happen with dubbing too. I remember seeing Eternal Sunshine dubbed and, having seen it many times, it was just shocking how bad the dubbing was. Some things were just not even remotely similar to what was actually said...
BTW, District 9 is awesome
Lincoln. Great film!
I have yet to see this! Definitely going to check it out this summer.
Iron Man 3.....So disappointing.
I agree. It was utter rubbish imo... just FX and explosions for the majority of the film.Iron Man 3.....So disappointing.
Saw III
My first saw movie, so which saw was the best?
Jack Reacher
I know there are a lot of Tom Cruise haters out there. This movie won't win any Oscars, but I was entertained for a couple of hours.
6-7/10
Star Trek in IMAX 3D - Unbelievable. Probably changed the way I will view going to the movies for big event films like this.
Life of Pi
Why in the world would you start with 3? With Saw, you really do need to see them in order. Start from the beginning please! I like 1 and 6 the best.
I was just randomly flipping channels last week and Saw 3 was on the IFC channel. Exciting movie.
Bresson's Diary of a Country Priest (1951).
Great work. Can't wait to see his other works: Balthazar and A Man Escaped soon.
Nope. Not seen Pickpocket yet. Saw The Fifth Element many years back when it was released.Sentinel, have you seen Robert Bresson's Pickpocket? Speaking of Bresson, I recently watched Luc Besson's The Fifth Element, which I enjoyed.
Nope. Not seen Pickpocket yet. Saw The Fifth Element many years back when it was released.
Last night, I saw The Last Samurai (not finished it yet), which I have wanted to see for a long time since i found Hans Zimmer's soundtrack very inspiring.
Thanks for the suggestion, it's great when someone suggests a movie worth watching.Le Samouraï by Jean-Pierre Melville is worth watching.
Breaking Away - a cycling movie i had seen as a kid, a local kid in Indianapolis takes on the visiting Italian racing team.
Good movie, I lived in Bloomington, Indiana when it was made. Wish we had taken our baby boy (who turns 33 in 2 weeks) to be part of the crowd they recruited for the bike race. Bet he would have drawn some screen time.
Couple of future stars in this one, Dennis Quaid, Daniel Stern...
