Dark's Overgrip Review

I bet that those Genesis grips are 100% same as Pros Pro grips are and these are cheapest available here... Good grips for little money. Too bad that "Pro's Pro" sounds so "non-brand"...

i'm on the 6 hour on the Viper dry, and it's my first choice now!
(i'll jusr say it again) the thing is that you have to "activate" the chemicals when you play, so that after 30 minutes or so with frequent toweling the magic starts happening ;)
i think it will hold 1-2 hours more.
(i'm talking about 90% humidity, yes?)

I played 1.5 hours this past Sunday in a drills clinic with my new Tencifibre 315 LTD, which has a leather grip. A blister almost started to form on my thumb but luckily all it ended up being was a sore spot. I do like how the leather feels and it looks gorgeous on the racquet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I don't have to use an overgrip, but I have Babolat Pro Tour ready in my bag if the need arises.

i received this grip from a prize that i got from a gamma facebook contest. while surfing around the threads. people say that this grip is the old version of the "famous gamma supreme". then recent verison of the gamma supreme, people say it wasnt the same. so, i might give the recent version of supreme a try later in the future. for now, i'll take a stab in this grip that i got for free.

Installation: this grip is on the stiff side, it's not easy to stretch this grip. it feels like your putting duck tape over your replacement grip. the finishing tape doesnt pose a problem and does it's job of securing the grip in place.

Feel: This grips doesnt as dry as a viper nor tacky as a solinco wonder grip. it's middle of the road. for the width of the grip, it also fits in the middle of between thin and thick. it feels these grip can hold up a while.

Duration: The feel takes some break in time. then after some hours, it starts to feel better. after the 10hr mark, there isnt any peeling at all. i was shocked by this and it still feels the same when i broke it in. after the 20hr mark, i finally notice the peeling. it's very minor, i mean, really minor. you can see the 2nd white layer of the grip, but you wont even notice it. i had a black verison, so i didnt see any dirt marks.

Overall Results: This one is one of the most durable grips that i tried. it lasted longer than any of the grips that i tried so far. it got me thinking of switching to this grip. however, the shop around my area doesnt carry this grip, so i cant make the official switch. maybe this is why the old version of supreme dominate. most of the people in TT likes this stuff. i would say this is one heck of a fine quality grip here from gamma. overall, i'm impressed. 9/10

Supreme and RZR Tac are similar, but according to the "tacky" and "absorbent" specs on the back, they are slightly different. RZR is a 3 in absorbency and supreme is a 4.

I have used a few of the overgrips in this excellent review (thank you Darklore). One thing I have noticed is that the feel of the overgrip is different if I use a leather grip or a synth grip.

It seems the softer the base grip, the less tack I need in order to maintain a decent hold on the racket. My only guess can be that the softer grip allows the hand to relax more on the grip as it sinks in slightly. I hope that makes sense.

Just a personal observation.

What do you think the best the grip for a moderate sweater is?

I would always class original tourna and the other dry grips for the heavier sweaters.

For moderates, of which I am one, I think its hard to go wrong with either Wilson Pro or Yonex SuperGrap. They don't rely on moisture to get their tack and have a nice feel to them.

I have yonex supergrap now but I am thinking of switching to wilson pro because it is thinner.

Wilson Pro Sensation is thinner. The standard Wilson Pro and SuperGrap are about the same, give or take 0.05 of a mm (which is pretty small).

Wilson Pro Sensation will feel a bit different I expect. If you like Supergrap but want it a bit thinner, just pre-stretch it out and wrap tighter.

I think your review is spot on. I have used dozens of grips, and while this is slightly thicker than I'd like, it does what a tacky, durable grip should do.

^^^^^^^

New king of tacky for me is Kimony Hi-Soft EX Ultra Thin (.33mm thin). It also happens to have tremendous feel paired with a Skin Feel grip.

**** is like a customization service. I think you can compare them to Priority One.

obviously you guys have not tried Mega Tac yet. There is no further discussion about the tackiest grip after you try it. I'm loving it now that its getting chilly at night.

I just put the Wilson Pro Sensation on one of my sticks to try it out. If you like thin, this is an excellent choice.

I used it, the sweat absorption is bad. I had it for less than a week and the grip was moving all over the handle. I could feel the grip shift up and down the handle when I hit the ball.

Yeah, should have clarified my comment. I was only referencing the thickness as I haven't tried it on the court yet. Like anything, it probably varies from person to person. I'm not a bad sweater, so that may not be as much of an issue for me as it is for others. All I can say for now is that I like how it feels initially...

It did feel great initially. And I actually liked it during its short lifespan. But I didn't realize how much more cushioned the regular Pro Overgrip felt so I decided to switch to it.

I was surprised at how much thinner it felt. It is advertised as 25% less, but it feels like more. I like the regular Wilson Pro as well. I have it on a second stick and Yonex Super Grap on a third to do a direct comparison. I had previously used Tecnifibre Pro Contact & Pro Players and really liked both.

Trying to do a little OG testing to find one that I like best and that I am willing to pay for. I was pretty disappointed to see the Super Grap go up in price as I have read so many great comments about it.

Of the ones I've tried, the Pro Contact & Pro Players have been my favorite, but I would prefer to find something a little cheaper than 3 grips for $5.95.

Wilson Shock Shield Overgrip 2-Pack

Comment: I think this is one of the most pricy overgrip that i tried so far. $5 for 2. kinda weird when other company does it for 3 for $5. Just hope this grip is worth my money. :/

Was the grip easy to apply: its fair, had to be careful of not over stretching the grip since it has the gel on the back of the overgrip.

Was it sized appropriately: just enough to cover the handle

Level of tackiness: similar to the wilson pro, but it has the shock shield has a bit more.

Longevity of Tackiness: plays real nice in cooler weathers. however, in hotter weathers, it suffers greatly.

Level of sweat absorption: same as the wilson pro

Would you consider using this overgrip?: for the price stand, i wont use it. However, it was an interesting playtest

List any additional thoughts on the overall performance: The feel was muted because of the overgrip. it has a jelly like cushion that i like.

Dark, which one have you found is most similar to Supergrap? Now that Supergrap has raised their price again, I may start experimenting with others.

I tried pro's pro overgrip and it plays the same thing as the wilson and yonex. i never wrote a formal review of it, but i will later. pro's pro is your best bet.

yea but expensive.
and there are no "reels", so...

Ding ding ding! Yep. That "Mega Tack" is a turnoff too. Wilson Pro Overgrip, which I heard is not very tack, gives me blisters occasionally. And I heard the sweat absorption is subpar too.

If your string reviews are anywhere as in depth or informative as your overgrip reviews, then I must admit I'm excited :)

Any chance you will do reviews on other string types other than multis? I'm pretty sure Mikeler got that type covered. Would like to see a poly review thread.

Even though you're taking a break from overgrips can we still do requests? So you can do them when you plan to revisit this thread?
