'07 Roland Garros Winner: Not Who You Think...

After a lousy workout in the gym, I was takin' a shower and a revelation came to me...not religious, but it came to me in a religious manner...out of the blue, and with the righteousness and certainty that such revelations carry...okay, so I'm weird and like tennis...what can I say...

Anyway, in this revelation, neither Nadal NOR Federer will win this year's Roland Garos. That's right-the #'s 1 and 2 seeds will go down...to other players. Nadal will suffer a spectacular upset in the 4th round or quarters and Federer, with a calendar Grand Slam practically his for the taking, will go down in the semis.

The participants in the final will obviously be a disappointment to many, many people here. Since the draw won't be available for months, no way to tell the finalists, but my revelation vaugely hinted at Coria (making a comeback from obscurity and finally winning the title that people said he should have won years ago???), Monfils and maybe even Baghdatis...though I know he hasn't proven himself to be a clay court force.

I can't control my revelations. You can argue about this, but since it's something that I cannot explain, I can't necessary support these "picks" rationally. In other words, I'm just sayin'...

Thank you for sharing the good news with us. Obviously this is a sign from a higher power and it is a message to you to build a church and bring your true believers together.

I will join the church of Philentology. Unite against the morons.

(personally, your revelation is not that farfetched, but I want Fedster to win the French) :)

You need to see a Dr and ask him about the delusions your having lol

Believe me, I thought of this, but it comforted me to realize that if I'm insane, then so are most of the 11,000 members on this board!

What? the ALMIGHTY Phil can't be called out for a spelling mistake? Lol, just messing with you, you're one of the good posters here.

And I was just messin' wit you...of COURSE I'm not gonna come over there...I was LOL on that. Maybe if I'm nice enough, one of the mods will correct the spelling mistake. I can't spell to save my life and a French word? Forget it...

Well, Phil, if this is going to happen, it's going to be at the French. I mean, heck, Verkerk was a finalist there just a few years ago. Anything can happen on clay.

My crystal ball STILL tells me that the year Fed wins the French, he loses Wimbledon. It's too hazy to see WHICH year this will happen, though.

if there will be a surprise finalist, then my money is on these 4 guys: davydenko, robredo, ferrer, and almagro. any one of those guys has the game suited for clay to get to the finals and maybe even win it. coria and baghdatis are just way too farfetched in my opinion. coria has completely lost the drive and any and all motivation he's had and baghdatis just, on top of the fact that his game isn't suited for clay and he admits to not liking it very much, mainly just doesn't have the physical endurance and form needed to win a slam on clay. he isn't in shape to play 7 four or five set matches in 2 weeks, especially with the long points on clay, and not crumble by the start of the second week.

Although I seriously don't think it will be coria or bags, I do agree that fed and nadal wont win it. I have a feeling someone will make a big play, like Davydenko, or maybe even a dark horse. I have had a feeling for a little while that Nadal won't win it (i'm not trolling or putting him down, i just don't see the three peat happening). However I do think that if he does make it to the final, he will beat anyone there, even fed (and i'm more of a Fed fan, i just think in the final Nadal would take him at the French) I see Fed and Nads goin out in the SF. My main contenders are Davydenko, Berdych, Malisse, and Nalbandian. I pick Gonzales for at least QFs

How strong is your faith? You might want to wager some money on this, as you will get fantastic odds, maybe as high as 1000:1.

It's not quite THAT strong. I'm still new to these revelation thingees, so we'll just see how it goes. If I'm right, then I may whip out some cash after the next revelation...

Monsieur Phillipe - naw, I ain't sayin' it!;) My only question is where were you looking?

How about a poll: "How much thinking do you do in the shower?" Replies: Lots; Not so much; None - I'm too busy thinkin'.

;) again.

To be honest, just before the Revelation hit me, I was thinking that I'm starting to run a little low on shampoo. I don't take long showers, so I don't do much thinking there (some might argue "...or ANYWHERE"), which is why this surprised me. Out of no where, this random, and yet fully-formed Roland Garros scenario just appears...freaked me out, man...

im pulling for robredo so all these people that say he isnt a quality top ten player will shut up. also a davydenko or any other top ten player. then you will se the whole board go i told everyone that this guy was good. its how it works here. all the sudden someone starts winning and everyone starts jumping on the bandwagon.

how does bags suck on clay. explain.
and yes monfils sucks i hate his style of play.

baghdatis doesn't have a game well suited for clay. he doesn't move on it as well as guys like nadal, monfils, fed, davydenko, ferrer, etc. also, he plays a more power game where he hits big from the back court and tries to end points fairly quickly, and thats just not how you win on clay. most of the greatest clay courters of all time won on clay because of their ability to chase every ball down and grind their oponent down. shear power won't get you into the second week at RG. also, baghdatis' fitness is not where it has to be for him to last 2 weeks at RG. if his early round matches go 5 sets, he'll be out of it by the second monday.

Sorry to disappoint you all but remember who is the King of Clay. Gonzalez will never reach another Grand Slam Final.

Well everyone loses eventually on their favourite surface & maybe this year is Nadal's.

But I'd still like a Federer-Nadal final so that the whoever wins it will be a win-win situation for me. If Federer wins he should go on to complete the GS which will be an amazing feat. If Nadal wins then it will show that he's lost none of his clay-court game but improved on his game on other surfaces.

I'm finding your revelation rather scary, Phil, because I dreamt last night that Fed lost an early round match at Roland Garros and, although I didn't witness it, I knew that Nadal was out too. The match was played on emerald green grass (but that's dreams for you), but it was none the less real for that. I'm getting very worried about myself in the fact that I've started to dream tennis dreams, but at least it was in technicolour.....

My delusions tell me that Safin will win it. I may be crazy, but people like the idea.

my crystal ball says it will be Safin too, that's IF he wins the second point of the second set of to-day's match v. Massu.

Follow to-day's live scores carefully if you want to know whether he will win Roland Garros this year or not.

Some revelation that, and after a workout!

Anyways, I think it'll be a repeat of last year- Nadal Vs Fed final and Nadal prevailing.

He did it! Having won set 1, he won the second point on Massu's serve. Safin wins RG 07. Slam #3! Way to go Marat.

I think about sweaty tennis players while showering too - except of the female persuasion. Interesting theory though.

I really think this is the year....and the tournament that finally sees Greg Rusedski make his long awaited debut. Ok, really, but maybe not.

I've got two words for you.....Dmitry Tursunov. He's got the game and he's been playing pretty dadgum good on the red stuff. He's my darkhorse going in.

Depending on where Gasquet's draw is he could make a serious run. Murray too.

Spoiler:
The tournament has already been played. Phil is correct. He got a look into a small tear in the time-space continuum. Good job, Phil, that's what a bad workout, hard water and soft porn can do for you, I guess.

By the way, the guy who won the 2007 RG is Andy Murray. He and Gilbert watched Braveheart each night during the tournament. He pretended Gasquet was English during the final. Straight sets. "...Frrrreedom!"

I would be (pleasantly) shocked if Baghdatis makes it past the quarters!:)

My prediction is a Ginepri-Tursunov final.
