17 Year old serves at 140 mph

I was listening to Wimbledon radion on Sirius satellite and they reported that an Aussie junior by the name of Mark Verryth was clocking serves in the 140's. That's insane!!! The reporter said when he heard him serving that it sounded like cannon going off.

saw some pic tall thin 180lbs. 140 not a problem for these kids these days with the rackets and that height. but none the less 140 is moving saw roddick in person it was amazing,,

my son used to hit with a kid (Ekloff)from redondo beach who put up 140's one day i ask him to serve a few, heard how big his serve was and without effort 120's during his warm-up it was a mindblower that is fast!!

flat? at 140 at 17 is impressive..
but hitting it at 120 mph with significant topspin is much more impressive. thats what pete used to do at 18-19 yrs, I think..:)

Wow, the fastest serve I ever hit was 98 mph, but seriously, that's really good. I hate the junior's though, they're all spoiled. Except Donald Young. I like Donald Young.:)

My flat's are 95-110 when they're working. Which is rarely. I'm only 5'7" and just turned 15.

Edit: (Clocked at 105 with a bad back and wearing heavy, non-tennis clothes)

im not shure man i was at the rexall place were they have the rogers cup when i did that the have radar guns on the practice courts

whats the grip for a flat serve, i use the continental grip(hammer grip) and i for some reason get spin, i want to concentrade on flat fast serves..
i used to have a more spin orientated grip, and i was not getting many over the net

no, 140 mph would be correct. Verryth trains at the Melbourne National Tennis Academy (like me), and yeah, he has a cannon. I've never hit with him but i've watched him train plenty of times, and yeah hes got a huge serve

this is not a big deal for me since I serve big too . the coach at my tennis court says my serve is 120+ . And I use a discontinued prince spectrum 90 strung with polyspin at 65 ... and I am only 14 ... the coach at the tennis court says that If I cloack my serves couple of them would be over 130

I can count the number of ATP pros who can hit 130 mph consistently with just one hand.
