18 year old plays 7.0, 7.5, 8.0, 8.5 and 9.0

This guy in my league plays all these levels and has not lost once yet. He has self-rated at 4.0.

OK, I get it...no problem whatever right? He probably self-rated a little low, that's not my issue.

Here's my beef:

After 9 matches (all wins), tennis ratings has him rated at 3.88, I played him in mixed doubles and he killed us 6-2,6-2....my rating went down from 3.48 to 3.25.......

TR ratings are often very low and do not correlate that well with USTA. Very hard to get a TR rating to move up but it moves people down easily. I know guys who were bumped to 4.5 but had a TR of 3.75. As a TR 3.88 he could very well be a legit USTA 4.5 player.

does this player play college or is there anything to suggest that he should not have self rated at 4.0 and answered the questions wrong? If so you may look into filing a grievance. Also being undefeated may be due to luck or does he win even higher level matches easily?

Perhaps he is just a really good club player who happens to be young and athletic. It is hard to judge without knowing the player's background.

If you play Women's league then Mixed results do not count.

Mixed doesn't count towards year end ratings unless a player plays SOLELY mixed and then they get an M rating.

And TR is a waste of time for an "actual rating" it is wildly off both too high and too low ... so totally random.

Not really earned….too many 3.5s get bumped to 4.0 that don't belong at 4.0

If you appeal up and don't get crushed, the bump was justified.

If you appeal up and get double bageled all of the time, then it wasn't justified.

Waiting for the algo to agree with your own assessment might take time, time that would be better spent at the higher level.

Having said that, 19-8 is not a dominant record so unless many of the matches were against stronger 3.5s, it seems unlikely you will get bumped.

Ummm, your mixed matches don't count for your year-end rating, unless you only play mixed. Does that apply to you? If not, your year-end rating will only be based on your women's results.

At which point you may find out that your game can't hold up against real 4.0s. In which case maybe it would have been better to learn and ingrain the new and improved skills you'll need at the higher level by thrashing 3.5s.

im 3.5 and 5-0 against 4.5 , 8-2 against 4.0 and 2-5 against 3.5

3.88 sounds like a legit decent 4.0 to me. I'd understand your complaint if they were like a 4.2....
