Great match by the Ferrer! He just plain outplayed Rafa. Probably has the best knowledge of Rafa's game besides Djokovic, IMHO.

Grats to Ferrer though. I genuinely thought he would choke it away again.

Nadal will struggle to hold on to #1 after RG now. Then again, that's usually a good thing for his results.

You are right people are focusing too much on what Nadal did wrong than what Ferrer did right. You're quite wrong about the tactics that Ferrer used though. It was consistent hitting to Nadal's BH that gave Ferrer the nod today.

Nadal is a sore loser holy cow.

At least when Fed loses, he gracefully smiles and shakes his opponent's hand gives them a small half hug and congratulates them. Rafa just said good job then got out of there as soon as he could.

Don't rule out Fed. He's never won this tournament, probably the most prestigious clay event not Roland Garros.

With him potentially skipping Madrid/Rome he has incentive to win this.

Would you stop? No seriously guys this is a tennis forum, and to be honest no one ever analyzes the tennis, they just constantly say "bad loss". The Tsonga loss vs Fed for instance at Wimby, was just an example of someone zoning and abusing the BH, thus exploiting a weakness. If you can do that every match you can win, it isn't that Fed played bad.

Here is the same, Nadal just couldn't come up with answers against that gameplan.

They're both pretty sour when they lose, but I think Fed's getting better about it since last year. Maybe losing a lot puts it in perspective.

I wonder what this means for Madrid and Rome, and also obviously RG. Djokovic now has the #1 ranking within realistic reach before RG.

What the hell? I just caught the last few points, but the stats... 44 enforced errors from Nadal? I kind of wish Djokovic had gotten to play him in that form but if Nadal plays that badly I guess he can lose early even on clay. Could not have lost to a more deserving player, well done to Ferrer for not choking.

Ok enjoyment over. Nadal got beat by someone is (in my opinion) the 3rd best clay-court player currently active on tour. Hardly something to get too worried about. Straight sets is a little suprising but Ferrer played solidly. Just a bad day at the office from Nadal, i still think he'll be fine for the rest of the clay season.

Damn, did not see that coming at all. Yeah, Nadal has been in poor form lately but didn't expect Ferrer to straight set him on clay, wow. Novak is winning the French this year. I hope Federer can win MC, but doubtful.

Federer up to play Tsonga soon., should be good.

It's true that Nadal's UE count was very high, but David still played brilliantly. And his movement was incredible, even by his standards.

If Djokovic wins the point difference in rankings will be about 1500. Nadal is now defending 2500 points in Rome/Madrid/Barcelona while Djokovic 1/5 of that. Djokovic only needs to give himself chances, play to his ranking, reach semis and finals consistently and he'll be back at the top in no time.

I fully agree with you on that Tsonga-Fed match, but I think it's not that far off to conclude that Nadal wasn't any near to his best today. Just check the UE stats, for instance...

lol my thoughts too as a Fed fan. Sad we have to hope for Nadal to come back but its true. Also i saw some serious issues with Nadals backhand today

Yes, but he lost last year in the final to Djokovjc, this year is completely different. He lost in the QF to a guy he owns, especially on clay. His aura of invincibility on clay is diminishing.

Ferrer almost beat Nadal in Madrid (i think) last year and had a good chance to beat him in the Barcelona final a couple years back (set points in one set, served for the other) so he's had it in him but judging by the stats, Nadal made an insane amount of errors. could just be one match though.

Where is 6-1 6-3 6-0? Good riddance. Forum is much better without him, Fed_Djoker_Fan, NADALRECORD, octobrina10 and clayqueen. These 'Fabulous 5' can make any neutral fan to cheer against Rafa just for their absence.

Commies to real Rafa fans. Great to see MichaelNadal here when Rafa was losing while band wagoners were hiding in their pod.
