Genie is completely rattled by the enormity of the match and the expectations out upon her. Poor Genie...maybe should have played in a couple of tournaments before Rogers.

Yeah, Genie really shouldn't have pulled out of the Citi Open. That's not hindsight either. I didn't like the move to begin with, unless it had something to do with an injury.

That being said, I don't think this performance right now has anything to do with form or lack thereof. It's nerves. Let's see how she responds in the 2nd. I for one think she's got this.

Bouchard broken while serving for the set up 5-1. Oh well, she has turned it around anyway. She still looks uncomfortable though. She just needs to win this match, get out of there and regroup for the next match.

Please win this, Shelby. Can't stand Bouchard at all. Reminds me of Sharapova for all the wrong reasons (except grunting of course).

I think Genie rubbed off wrong several people during the Wimbledon run.

Is it because of her appeal, Nike endorsements, being the potential WTA flag bearer ?

Her tennis is definitely not bad at all. If she comes off a little bit more humble , I think she can win a lot of fans.

I do enjoy watching her play, especially a fan of her return of serve.

Will be a huge detriment for the tournament.

Tennis Canada apparently invited the Genie Army with free accommodation and tickets for the whole tournament.

even though Canadian I can't phantom how Genie is losing to some 100+ ranked player 6-0 first set and now losing third set 4-0

this is beyond pathetic

Terrible homecoming for Bouchard.

I'm sure we are about to get a healthy dose of hype about the girl she is losing to here in the US.

Shelby Rogers just made a final of Bad Gastein, made 3rd round at Citi Open and made it in Montreal through qualifying beating Shuai Peng, the No 1 seed ranked about 45.

She is on a streak. Double bagel complete.

Nobody expected Eugenie to win the Canadian Open BUT nobody expected her to lose to some unknown American. Two double bagels! Eugenie played NERVOUS tennis the pressure overwhelmed her playing at home! The Quebec media and Canadian press are going to roast Eugenie tomorrow in the papers. I am stunned how poorly Bouchard played! It must be rust well Eugenie let the pressure of competing in Quebec get to her. Eugenie showed a crack in her aura this year she still sometimes has these strange losses.

I don't think she has got over her Wimbledon loss. It will take her s long time to get over Wimbledon, and to make matters worse she lost her first match in Montreal. Take about a blow to her confidence,

The Wimbledon loss hurt Eugenie BUT I think this loss is worse. Kvitova is a top ten player ranked higher than Eugenie losing to her is one thing. Nobody faulted Eugenie or criticized her for losing to Kvitova. However, this loss is humiliating it was like a nightmare come true. I am sure a lot of friends and family of Eugenie were in the stadium. It is one thing to lose BUT not to lose like that. What the going on with Eugenie?

Genie's inability to perform at the Premier tournaments continues. I really hope she rebounds in Cincinnati and shows that it was the nerves that got her today.

Say what you want about her, but losing 0-6 6-2 0-6 isn't just a bad day. She was in shambles mentally. Watch her make a run next week in Cincy.

. Could very well be something physically is wrong with EugenieSerena said she got menstrual migraines and it affected her during matches. Serena now takes medication to deal with the menstrual migraines.

I don't believe it was anything physical. I think it was a case of nerves. There were simply too many unforced errors. Genie has previously played the role of underdog, and here, in Canada, the expectations were huge. It's one thing to be an underdog....another to be the "hometown favourite".

I'm disappointed that our countrymen aren't doing well in this tournament, but perhaps this fans the flames of ambition.

I have been watching the career development of Francoise Abanda. While she also lost, she put up an excellent fight with Cibulkova. I look forward to many years of fine tennis from this 17 year old Canadian!

BTW, congratulations to Shelby Rogers in her win over Genie. She came in charging and didn't let the Canadian fans disarm her. I also look forward to seeing her in many WTA events in the future!

Genie: Tomorrow is another day. Think long term, make your game more varied. Work seriously on plan B. Great points for fashion and looks tonight. We're there for you.

This is sad as a Canadian I am stunned and disappointed. I wanted to see a Serena Eugenie quarterfinal. This loss is a huge blow to the event. The Canadian media, Quebec press, Tennis Canada are NOT happy about this result.

Do you see Genie rebounding in Cincinnati next week or do you see the struggles continuing?

You are right. Her current coach is of no help to her in big matches such as this one in Montreal with the entire entire country watching her and expecting her to win.

A change of coach might be in order, and a sports psychologist is needed ASAP.

Maybe you are right Eugenie is in a new position since reaching the Wimbledon final she is no longer the hunter she is the hunted. Being top 10 Eugenie needs to realize the lower ranked players now want to beat her. I do think the pressure playing in Quebec got to her.

I hope for a quick rebound or else it would mean maybe something is going on? Maybe it was a combination of rust and nerves? This is sad but not the end of the world. Eugenie still needs to make sure she is a top eight seed for the US Open this should be her goal.

Might be a bit rash after just one bad loss after playing in the finals of a Grand Slam

You're overreacting. Regardless of her success at the slams this year, she's 20 and this is only her 2nd year on tour. Consistency issues are the norm, and bad losses will happen. That's how you learn.

As a Canadian living on the south shore of Montreal, I have to say I'm disappointed in the crowd's behaviour tonight. To heavily cheer for the local player is one thing, but to applaud the opponent's double faults and to barely acknowledge her good shots goes over the line, no pun intended. This isn't hockey and it shouldn't be treated as such.

The saddest part, it was kind of expected. I don't blame Rogers for not having acknowledged the crowd at the end.

It seems Bouchard was having trouble with nerves probably because it's her home tournament, and in Montreal at that. However, I don't think projections should be made on her whole career on the basis of one match where she crumbled under the pressure, but I know what this place is like so I don't expect much.

I say "it seems" because I seen very little of the match.

just saw the replay of Venus' 1st rd 1st set against Pavlyc…

my gosh, that was 75-80% peak Vintage Venus as far as offense is concerned! which is still enough to rank at or near the top in today's WTA! it was amazing to watch!

of course defense paled in comparison to peak Venus...

As I thought it was:

The start of the match was pushed back an hour to 7 p.m. so that Hydro-Québec could rig a generator to provide lights on the centre court.

There are a few players that I actively root against. Rafa and John Isner are the usual ones but I never actively wished WTA players to lose unless they are playing against my favorite players. That changed recently with Sloane Stephens and Genie Bouchard. I root against them even when they play against someone I've never heard of. And that is solely because of the undeserved hype they have received. Sloane was heralded as the savior of American tennis and Genie as the future of the WTA. Neither one of them sought out these titles themselves but the media machine has gone into overdrive to push this story. I do not like to be told what to do or what to like or dislike by any conglomerate that is trying to push an agenda. Once either of them wins a slam or two then I'll give them their just props. But semifinalist/finalist is not good enough.
