Welcome to the 2019 Davis Cup Finals event

Davis Cup Finals
18 - 24 November, 2019
Madrid, Spain

Indoor Hard Court

This is a trial event that takes into account the new format of the Davis Cup. Points quoted below are not finalised and may be subject to further refinement.

RULES (Davis Cup):

Initial suggestion is to structure picks according to the following schedule:

1. For the Round Robin stage of the tournament, make 1 pick per Round Robin Tie

2. Note that Groups B, D and F get underway on 18 November whilst Groups A, C and E only get underway on 19 November.

In effect this means that you would need to make 1 pick from any of the following matches from the 1st tie in each group:

Pick #1 - any 1 of the following:
A - France vs. Japan (Tuesday)
B - Croatia vs. Russia (Monday)
C - Argentina vs. Chile (Tuesday)
D - Belgium vs. Colombia (Monday)
E - Kazakhstan vs. Netherlands (Tuesday)
F - Italy vs. Canada (Monday)

Pick #2 - any 1 of the following:
A - Serbia vs. Japan (Wednesday)
B - Spain vs. Russia (Tuesday)
C - Argentina vs. Germany (Wednesday)
D - Australia vs. Colombia (Tuesday)
E - Great Britain vs. Netherlands (Wednesday)
F - USA vs. Canada (Tuesday)

Pick #3 - any 1 of the following:
A - France vs. Serbia (Thursday)
B - Spain vs. Croatia (Wednesday)
C - Chile vs. Germany (Thursday)
D - Belgium vs. Australia (Wednesday)
E - Great Britain vs. Kazakhstan (Thursday)
F - USA vs. Italy (Wednesday)

Pick 4 - Quarter-Finals - PLEASE BE CAREFUL WITH THE SCHEDULE AS SOME OF THE QUARTER-FINALS START ON THURSDAY 21 NOVEMBER
Pick 5 - Semi-Finals
Pick 6 - Final
(i.e. 1 pick per Round from the QFs onwards)

3. Please note that you MUST make your pick before the first match of your chosen tie starts. You can make a back-up pick though it is unlikely that an entire team would withdraw from a tie.

4. Start with Pick #1. If your team wins, you are through to Pick #2, etc. If they lose, you are knocked out.

5. You cannot repeat a pick that you used before, so it is important to make smart choices to advance further in the tournament.

SCORES FOR THIS TOURNAMENT:
1 correct pick - 75
2 correct picks - 150
3 correct picks - 250
4 correct picks - 400
5 correct picks - 600
6 correct picks (WINNER) - 900

I'm picking Spain. Germany and Australia don't have their 'name' players Zverev and Tsitsipas on board. Djokovic isn't in great shape so not Serbia. Spain OTOH with Nadal who looked good in his last 2 matches also have the durable RBA and PCB on the team and I have a feeling player endurance will play a big part in this new format.

Is that Pick 1: Spain? This isn't just picking the winner of the tournament, you need to pick teams you expect to move on, but then you don't get to pick them in the next round.

You do know that Tsitsipas isn't Australian, right?

You're right. It's 2.16 am here in England and I need to be up at 7am.

Edit: I read another post earlier today about players with (some) Greek heritage. Phillippoussis and Kryrios were mentioned so Australian with Greek heritage stuck in the mind.

I'm not committed enough to take part in a sudden death league round by round so Spain is my pick as eventual winners.

Pick 1: Argentina

Can I wait 'till monday to post my Pick 2, then till tuesday to pick my pick 3, and so on?

I'm confused, a lot of people here are just posting the country for their pick but each country is playing two countries so they'd probably need to clarify which match up they mean?

For example: Argentina is due to play both Chile and Germany? Just thought it might make it easier in case there's some confusion.

Pick 1:
D - Belgium vs. Colombia (Monday)

Pick 2:
D - Australia vs. Colombia (Tuesday)

Pick 3:
C - Chile vs. Germany (Thursday)

Is this ok?
:)

Each country is only scheduled once per pick cycle. You can definitely clarify like this, but all the other ways are just as good.

Pick 2: Serbia (beating Japan)

I think I have to pick this before seeing if my pick 1 is correct because of the schedule
