Commentator Gilles Muller, after Ferrer went down 0-40 to begin the second set:
"Not an ideal start for David Ferrer, having to save three break points...It's a tough situation for him."
After Ferrer wins the next point:
"Saves the first one."
This kind of insight can only come from a former pro.

Jarry in a third set and it goes to a TB? What a surprise! Every Jarry match this week (5) has gone three and this is his third to go to the TB.

So, who will Thiem play in the QF?

And are we getting Tsirsipas vs bullsheet Russian tomorrow if Tsitsipas wins?

Poor Daveed. Can't catch a break even in his last appearance in Barcelona. Has to run into You-Know-Who yet again in the early rounds and, even now, no mercy shown.

Who would you want him to play? In his current form he would have lost against Thiem, Tsitsipas, Medvedev just like he lost to Nadal. He wasn't going to win the title.

I'd like to see how far he would have got without having to catch Nadal so early.

Oh, great. Tsitsipas vs Nadal again. I was so looking forward to that

Worse match-up than Djokovic-Nishikori.
Don't you think you are going too far? They met only 3 times, and in Toronto they played a good match. It's not like Nadal beat Tsitsipas 10+ times without any fight like it happened in Djokovic-Nishikori matchup.

They have only played 3 matches and all of them have been underwhelming, with their AO match being the cherry on top.

I don't expect anything different in Barcelona at the moment.

In Toronto 2018 it was a good match. And Nadal is clearly out of form now. Not saying it will be a good match, but come on...I think it's pretty hard to find a matchup which is as bad as Djokovic-Nishikori.

What about Nadal - Gasquet :happydevil:

Nishikori has the backhand to possibly give this version of Nadal some trouble. Tsitsipas’ backhand will get butchered tomorrow if he gets through today.

Two LLs into an ATP500 QF draw.

Jarry’s run is crazy...survive a 1R qualies 3rd set TB then lose/win to Grunthollers in the right order, both times in three sets. Now two more 3rd set TBs victories.

RCB got a nice reward for having to play a MD-quality player (Schwartzman) in the final qualies round when The Fog rolled out of Barca...he got a bye and a decent path (Kuhn, Garin) to this point.

They could face each other in the SFs but will need upsets of Kei (by RCB) and mdvdv (by Jarry).

That's not surprising considering Tsitsipas isn't nearly the player Nishikori is.
For now, he isn't.

But it doesn't change the fact that Djokovic-Nishikori is the most predictable match-up on tour.

Nevertheless, I'd still rather watch that one than Nadal-Tsitsipas. I'm so glad Struff won and I hope Nadal never plays Tsitsipas again. The Greek is just clueless on how to play him.

F2A is rising in the ranks and is now top 30. It shouldn't be expected that he beats every top10, every time.

Are you new to TT?

You must be. Here's how it works: Player shows up on scene, wins a big match. Some people declare him to be the greatest player of all time elect. A larger percentage will say not only is that wrong, but that the fact he won't win 15 majors means he is not worth talking about at all. You're only allowed to talk about/praise players who will win 15 majors. Top 10 is a just a useless piece of crap.

Here endeth the lesson.

RCB isn't that offensively threatening but his ability to defend on this surface still letting him keep the score respectable.
Nishikori has trouble with any solid defenders he can't easily overpower.
