Hello All Talk Tennis String Experts..

Been stringing.. and playing for years. I have also been doing Talk Tennis play testing for years.

My most recent "A string you had such high hopes for but was a complete bust" section was:

This was part of a Talk Tennis play test along with a great new string from Tourna.

In general, I love the Tourna offerings... But Big Hitter Deuce and I did not hit it off. I did the entire play test cycle and I kept picking up the frame with the BH Deuce 16... but just kept putting it down again. It was great to string... wonderful two tone color.. easy on the arm.. Great snap back and tension holding. Just did not work for me and my game. I am sure there is a market for it.. Just not in my house..

If you have one or two.. or more to share.. please feel free to add to this thread!! I am sure there will be strings we are going to disagree about.

Weisscanon Ultracable. Felt like dead plastic from the first ball. I cut it out right away.

For me it was Polyfibre TCS.

I am older and have had arm issues so wanted a soft poly.

I bought a set and tried it and liked it. I bought 2 full reels of the stuff......and.... I still have 2 reels of the stuff 3 years later.

It just didn't produce from either a comfort, spin, or tension maintenance standpoint.

On the plus side, I did get a lot of practice restringing my racquet

I think part of it was I also tried Volkl Cyclone Tour. It is flat out a better string than TCS.

Yeah I was excited to try it but I just couldn't hit with it due to the terrible feel. I'm used to dead polys but this stuff was the worst I've ever felt. Maybe someday I'll give it another shot at a different tension and with another cross string but I'm in no hurry.

Been hitting with Cyclone Tour mains/Isospeed baseline crosses lately and really enjoying that setup.

I like to hybrid an edged poly main with smooth thin poly cross. Been doing this for about 60 years. I feel like it gives a great combination of spin and feel. My traditional setup is regular Cyclone mains with Black zone crosses and I love that but trying some new stuff now too. Isospeed baseline works great as a cross imo plus you cant beat the price.

So much love on Talk Tennis. I have two sets of the Tourna BHB Silver Tour 7 17G.. that @Injured Again set me. I would love to try that one.

Weiss Cannon Rock N Power was the worst I ever had in my racquet
Tourna Big Hitter Blue was not good either

RPM Power was also that string for me that just was nowhere near what I expected. But I think it is kind of along the lines of other recently released strings that are more suited for pro players and others capable of high racquet head speeds who don't need the most highly shaped strings to generate high spin rates, unlike recreational players. Another such string that comes to mind is the Head Experimental, which became Lynx Tour.

Oh man! I was hoping the Lynx tour would score higher. I'm surprised TW hasn't officially reviewed it yet...but it did just come out. I know with my lightweight racket and the 16g at 53# it definitely doesn't check all the boxes. I'm going to string up the 17g next with my klipper stringer.

I did better with the Head Experimental or Lynx Tour. I used more of a flatter swing path and it shined then. If you are trying to create shape to the ball.. you lose drive and ball just seems to sit there... like a baseball pitcher throwing a slider that does not break. I agree.. this string is really for Pro Tour players or at least DIV 1 players..

I think you get the same performance out of Head Velocity... and it is $10.00 bucks

Yeah. My buddy had this in his racquet. I kept trying it, thinking it would be good. Volkl - I like Volkl string. Lots of spin, as far as numbers. Good numbers as far as stiffness. But, when I played with it, it was just... eh.

There was also a string called Luxilon Big Banger 5 Star I'd like to mention. It was awful. Worst control ever.

Discontinued for good reason.

Hmm, I actually didn't mind the way that V-Square felt, but its durability was terrible. Notched through and broke in four hours.

A truly terrible string for me was Luxilon Smart.

I could see the string going away just watching from the side of the court during his matches.

That surprised us as we see a lot of kids using it.

I try to keep one of my racquets in my son's bag but every once in a while I forget and grab one of his to hit with him. That usually lasts about 3 shots. It is way too stiff/dead for me. I haven't tried it at a lower tension but with so many strings out there that are more suitable to my game I just don't see the need in trying it.

Diadem Solstice Power: so much hype, so unremarkable.

I used Solstice Power as my go-to string for a couple of years. It was in a 110 square inch, 16x19 racquet and I used the 1.35 thickness. So when I switched to my SW104, I tried the 1.20 and it felt totally different.

The 1.35 was fairly plush, with great grab on the ball that only moderately changed when the string wore smooth. It ended up lasting about 12 hours before breaking, and the moderate amount of tension loss didn't affect ball trajectory much. The 1.20 was harsh and when I strung it looser, was too springy and then with the tension loss became uncontrollable. It's almost like they were two different strings.

Glad it works for you. Very popular string. I have to work to hard to win points with 4G... plus the price is a bit out there foe m game.

It felt fantastic in the Volkl and just mediocre in Diadem Elevate and Wilson blade 18x20. I just couldn't control depth with this string. I have one more set but intend to hybrid it with ghostwire and velocity in the crosses.
Grapplesnake Tour Sniper 1.25. I tried it in the Diadem Elevate, it felt like barb wire, made my whole arm hurt in less than 45 min, cut it out.

This second I was just looking at a great group shot a friend texted me of a lot of our group on the court after a lesson with a coach who is a friend of ours. We are all holding a beer toasting the camera.

Hyper G for me. I was sort of enamored with it at first when it got hyped. It felt good in certain frames at certain tension....but when it dies (and it dies fast), it's like plastic trash. I can't really say it's any worse than most other sharp textured poly strings I've played with, they all seem to do the same thing on me. But boy that green color started to bother me

I have a Diadem Elevate stick and have played with two strings so far and haven't liked either one. The two strings are Dunlop Black Widow and Yonex Poly Tour Pro.

I have tried many strings in the Elevate. Best in that stick were Tonic/alu rough, Tonic/ghostwire, full bed durafluxx 1.18, full bed alu power rough, oehms black pearl rough/ghostwire, diadem solstice power/ ghostwire and full bed velocity.

Hyper G

There has been so much hype in regards to this string for like 4 years now. When I tried it in my PS97 and then again in a Blade 98 I was very disappointed. It lost it's profile in about an hour and felt mushy and lifeless from the start. Imo, Tour Bite is much better.

-if you want that color!?, wilson revolve-SPIN is a very good alternative; 5 sided instead of 4, good durability, but feels better IMO/IME
