If Rubin doesn't play, I still think Wake has a shot in dubs, but here's how I see singles breaking down:

1. Boegarts vs Frank - UVA in straights
2. Mansouri vs. Shane - UVA in straights
3. Ho - TSK - UVA in straights but Ho will put up a fight
4. Tabrizi vs. Alatamirano - While certainly the underdog, I think Wake has a shot on 4.
5. Kan/Seraphim vs. Ritschard - UVA in straights
6. Kan/Seraphim vs. Aragone - Same as 4, I think Wake has a shot here.

Have any of these guys ever played each other before? I think Noah Rubin played Mitchell Frank in the fall in the Knoxville Challenger and won pretty easily. Maybe Ho and TSK have played?

TSK beat Ho last year 3 and 4. It was the last match on, but I don't think it was really ever in question. It was at UVA and outdoors I believe.

You are right - Noah beat Frank 1 and 2 indoors in the Knoxville Challenger. I heard from someone afterwards that Brian Boland wasn't that surprised as he thought Noah would be a tough matchup for Mitchell. I'm not sure I completely agree with that, and think if they played in a college dual match setting it would be close. I don't think any of the other potential matchups would be rematches, but it's possible.

Cold but sunny in Chapel Hill, supposed to be mid to upper 50s this afternoon. I assume they play indoors but could be a decision made later.

never know why all think UNC just survives NC State? I see UNC better on all courts?

19 plays 31 in a rivalry match, Carolina has had a lot of injury problems and has never looked that strong in doubles this season. I think they win but anticipate it being close.

The Wake release shows Rubin in its projected lineup - of course they showed him there last week for the Texas match and he didn't play.

I saw this too, and wish that it mattered, but instead I bet it's just a result of the SID office and men's tennis staff not communicating, OR Bresky not wanting to tip his hand.

On the Wake sports boards, someone mentioned that the hand was hurt prior to the Oklahoma St match, which was why he didn't play dubs, but he did play #1 singles and won 3 and 6. There was a week in between Okie St and Texas, so it's possible that it either got worse, or he re-injured it in practice. If he hasn't been practicing/hitting all week, even if he does play just singles, i think it'd be tough to beat Frank or Shane at less than 100% or rusty. I can see Wake wanting him to sit against Texas, a non-conference opponent to be as healthy as possible against a top ACC rival. Someone will know at 3:30 when they walk in the indoor center and either see a wrap on his hand or grab a lineup card. I'll be there but it will be every bit of 4:00 before we get there.

Tough doubles point loss for the Hokies. But I still think they can take the match, doubles isn't really their thing, their quality is always in singles.

I wonder what UNC could do if they ever got healthy. As a Virginia fan, I am not too worried about it, but it is pretty sad.

4. Tabrizi vs. Alatamirano - While certainly the underdog, I think Wake has a shot on 4. ;)

#4 SINGLES 1 2 3 Notes
Collin Altamirano, Virginia 6 6 Order of finish: 1
Keivon Tabrizi, Wake Forest 0 1

Continuously underestimated. I guess this is good.

GT over Clemson, 4-1. Michael Kay finally stepped up his game and came back from a set down. I think he's using his losses at Auburn and Tennessee to step up his game.

I definitely missed the boat on this one, and several others. Quick recap. Decent crowd, but until the very end, it lacked the energy that good tennis programs bring. During dubs, the loudest group was the UVA reserves. Obviously, Rubin didn't play. By all accounts it is a minor thumb sprain. I think he'll be back in a week or so. Dubs was a rout except on 1, where it was very high level on both ends. First match off in singles was the aforementioned #4 match, which I saw very little of. Kudos for CA. Courts 3, 5, and 6 all ended at about the same time. TSK did as expected. JC Aragone is better than I thought, but Max Kan is clearly not 100% and not the player he was last year right now. At 5, big win for Chris Seraphim over Ritschard. Again, I saw very little of those courts, except for 6. Courts 1 and 2 were the best matches and had a the biggest crowds. Jon Ho, who normally plays 4, played great vs mitchell frank, who is very, very good. Tough call on MP. Ho thought he had brought it to 9-8, but that is it. Ho and Frank had words at the net. On court 1, again very high quality. Ryan Shane is a beast. HUGE groundstrokes. Romo just hung in and retrieved and used his lefty spins to go up a break twice in the first set. Second set was nip and tuck. Shane's attitude started to go south at the end of the 2nd. He had been overruled a couple of times. In my opinion, he didn't represent himself as well as he would have liked and even the UVA fans with me were disappointed. He got up 8-3 in the breaker but Romo came back to 8-7 including one overrule. At 8-8 with Romo serving a 2nd serve, Shane called it out, and was overruled making it 9-8 Wake, and it was his 4th overrule, so that was it. 10-8. UVA is super tough, and VERY deep. Hard to say how a healthy Rubin would have impacted the match, but I'd like to think that Wake has the tools to compete if Rubin is healthy.

I have been really impressed with freshman Robert Kelly at UNC. It will be a shame if he has to sit if they ever get back to full fitness.

Is CA even getting challenged playing in the 4 spot at UVa? Wonder how he does head to head against Frank and Shane.

Altamirano is up at 3 for NC State match. Kwiatkowski at 4. Altamirano has been playing well but really no basis for dropping Thai-Son. But I don't know what you do, maybe Shane at 4.

Virginia swapped 1/2, 3/4, and 5/6 from yesterday in singles. I think that Altamirano is going to need some chances to get ranking points by playing higher than #4, and Mitchell Frank also needs the chance to beat somebody if he is going to make the NCAA singles tournament.

Thats a good point. Still fun to see tsk play #4 with a #1 overall college ranking

Mitchell is their #1 guy. Boland had him at #2 against Baylor to avoid the matchup against Lenz, who had beaten him soundly two weeks prior. He said the same thing with CA, avoiding a quick rematch vs. Will Stein of TCU. He didn't know that Rubin wasn't going to play last night, but he didn't want Mitchell matched up against Rubin so he swapped them. He thought Shane would have a better shot against Noah, and I agree with him.
