Adidas Barricade 2021

It's really hard to figure out. I could get $120 shoes that last 6 months, I could get $80 shoes that last 2 years.
Please let me know BOTH of those (tennis) shoes because no matter what I tried I never made it longer than 4 months (winter)

2 months into the Barricade "test" the shoes are very stable and offer super easy way to slide yet feel stable (on HC). I love that aspect of them. The comfort is not bad, however, I would give it 4/10 because of those things on the back pushing on my Achilles and just making them horrible. All I think about is -- I my Achilles OK or it is just the shoe???
The durability is standard Barricade, same as on the last model released, no improvements or degradation.
Another thing that is kind of annoying is the sound they make -- they sound like my ski boots sometimes, two months into the ownership now...

I don't think I will be getting another pair of these...

For me Barricade Boost 2018 lasted the longest I've ever had without being too heavy or bulky. For Barricade 2021 I'd wear double socks, minimizes any achilles pain and also I'll tape underneath it to stop blisters on the achilles.

Will all that, I’d rather stick with my Revolt Pros! ;)

(Yes have lost some skin so far to these high collars...)

No Outrigger
One significant change is the omission of any outrigger on the new 2021 Barricade.

Unlike many tennis shoes the lack of an outrigger on the Barricade reduces weight and perhaps aids sliding. It won't aid stability however there is still quite a hard edge on that underside for uprightness. The lack of an outrigger makes the shoe break into a slide sooner with a smaller surface area and less traction underfoot.

Barricades have had various shades of outrigger for may models but its disappearance is a signal that the previous heft and stability have now been balanced differently against speed and slide.

Nevertheless I also comparatively see slightly rounder edges all round. There's more give in this iteration.

How does the Barricade compare to the Asics FF2 in terms of comfort, stability and cut? Is the Barricade good for a narrow foot and low arch? Thanks for the feedback.

I would say it is not as comfortable, but only slightly. The stability is about equal in my experience. Can’t really comment on the other questions.

The high collar on this shoe, when new, fairly rips the skin off*.

*Before purchase customer is advised to spend prior month with metal file... developing callouses around top of ankle.

Strange, the new dark blue/black/neon yellow color way is not up on Adidas site but up on TW.

December release. Sites like TW and the like are putting things up but saying "Ship date: 12/15/2021"

its a give and take. It is cool to see stuff early but I think it could also be construed as confusing as people may think they are actually available. I like seeing stuff early personally.

Ya boi nearly turned his ankle into peanut butter in these today.

Not sure if it was the shoe or that I wear a bunch of different kinds of shoes.

I really like the shoe, just heavy and I get toe jamming. I haven’t had heel issues compared to others which I am thankful for but I recognize where the issue can come from. Laces are only the ever slightest bit long and loose.

Wow yes putting them up around 6 weeks early is strange. I looked at the page and until you click on a size then the date was not showing.

It's almost like preorder. Such a late year release too! I would expect a new color after this one January 1.

I will wait for the sale of Barricade 2021 to kick in, and probably stock it up when on sale. This is still a great shoe, just that the expectations are different when you spend that much $$ on it. I am sure at 50% off your opinion of the shoe would be totally different, because of the value it provides. For me it provided great stability and adequate cushioning and support. Very well balanced shoe. But yea, I am not buying another one at full retail price.

Previous season's Barricades are now 20% off (limited sizes). If you have medical professionals, first responders, nurses, military members and teachers discount, that's another 30-40% off.

I have used the Barricades since 2006. I do prefer to have a solid and comfortable shoe vs. saving a few $$. Therefore, Barricades are off my list...

I have used them for over 15 hours now and they are still not “broken in” in the same areas as initial issues - back at the Achilles, still causing blisters, some weird areas where internal rubs against the foot.
I would not get another pair however, will ride these longer and see how it goes and any improvements.
I completely agree with you. once the shoe softens up it is extremely comfortable and I prefer the comfort to the gel 8s. There is a lengthy break in period that has to be dealt with but I think that is a necessary evil that allows the shoe to be as stable as it is. At the end of the day everyone's foot isn't going to fit every shoe, just because it doesn't fit one particular person doesn't make it a bad shoe. Plus I think it complements the solecourt boost well as they both have a different fit.
After 2 sessions I decided I'm going to return as they were so bulky. I had 2 more sessions and suddenly they loosened up and became awesome. Traction for me is amazing, although it's squeeking all the time, maybe annoying but I love it. I'm still getting blisters behind both feet but I'm taping that up now and have no issues. A few small tape pieces on top of each other fixes that. I just hate the big adidas words on the inside. Can still return within 30 days, hoping I see pics of a better colorway without the big Adidas words before I switch. But after thinking I'll return them, I'm now locked in and haply with them. I'm coming from barricade boost 2018 and then vapor x. Vapor x outsole lasted about 9 months and although super comfy, clearly I need a better outsole. I'm hoping and thinking this will do it.
Mine wasn't as bad as yours the first couple of sessions. They felt decent but was having a lot of rub coming from the heel. However, when they broke in, they're great IMO.

I just bought 50% two pairs of Barricades, yesterday I tested the shoes, the fit was perfect in all areas of the foot, not a single pressure point or discomfort, today as a put them on I felt the back rubbing against my Achilles tendons, as Ive read about the break in period, I decided to keep on going, two hours later I have blisters in both feet, next weekend I have a tournament and I wanted to use these shoes but I guess that just won't happen.

The performance however was superlative, I was using a too heavy shoes and in contrast these Barricades were light as a feather, very responsive in red clay, they build up caly fast and tend to loose traction, I have to tap them often to loose the clay from the soles, no biggie.

How long did it take you to completely break in the shoes in the back?, those blisters are annoying but the shoes are awesome and I want to keep using them but I have to make sure the blister problem eventually will disappear.

How or where are you getting 50% off Barricades? I saw them at an outlet once but they were excluded from sales.

Citadel Outlets near L.A. or in L.A. I'm not from the zone so I'm not so sure if it is within the confines of the city.

I took the only 2 pairs left in 11.5, $70 each.

Dang, nice. The one time I saw them was at the outlet at Tejon. Haven't seen them in NorCal yet.

What were you wearing before the barricades man? Stycon?
For hard court I have a pair of basic Asics, awesome shoes also, for clay I had to use basketball shoes as there are not tennis shoes in my size to be found where I live, that's why I have to wear whatever is in my size.

The longer I’ve worn these shoes the better I like them. More cushioning in the heel than the gel res 8 I believe, and has stickier traction. Easily my number 1.5 compared to the gel resolution.
Did you have any issue with blisters in the back?

Fairhit

I manually broke in the achilles heel tab to solve the blister issue there, but the heel "pods" rub and give me blisters.
I used them on practice a week before a tournament, first day was awesome, the next day I couldn't walk, I had to take care of the blisters and play with another shoe my tournament matches, during that second day I tried my best to loosen the back of the shoes to no avail so I don't know if it will eventually break in or if I have to develop callous on that part so the shoes don't bother.

I just folded the heel tab back on itself and clamped it there overnight. Even so.. they are the most uncomfortable shoes I’ve ever worn for tennis

Took me 2 weeks of play to not think about the shoes, on Barricades. But I didn't get any blisters, just some slight discomfort at the front foot till it breaks in is all I had.

3 weeks of play and they're finally broken in, best tennis shoe I've played in.
