Alternatives to Silverstring

I am almost done my reel of Silverstring 1.20 and before ordering another I thought I would tap into the collective intelligence of the forum to see if there is something else I should consider. I currently use Silverstring as a full bed, as a main in hybrids and as a cross in hybrids. Racquet is Angell TC97 16x19. Player is 4.0 baseliner, spin off both sides.

Main Criteria include:
1. smooth poly
2. Must play well at low tensions in a full bed in a thin gauge (I use 1.20 at 38 lbs)
3. Must function well as both a main and cross in hybrids
4. Relatively cost effective. I don't want to pay much more than I do for Silverstring. A little bit more is okay.

I am less concerned with:
1. tension maintenance: in a full bed i cut it out after 12 hours or so if it hasn't broken.
2. Spin. Would be nice to have a bit more spin but I seem to generate good spin no matter what the string

Thanks in advance.

Personally I found PL2 to be slightly higher powered and with a slightly crisper / less soft feel that silverstring. The closest I've found to silverstring is RS Lyon which I think has similar feel but with slightly more pocketing and spin.

I have not tried ultra cable...thats thats the square profile one right? Does it function well as a cross? Never heard of the pacific string and haven't tried any of the Double AR strings.

have you tried ultra cable...sweet...
also a nice round copoly pairing options:
Pacific Poly Power Pro 1.25
Double AR Twice Shark, Dragon or even Diablo 1.24

Thanks to all who have replied.

I did try PLII in 18 gauge a while ago in my previous frame: Prince Tour 100 16x18. I think I strung it at 45 or so and it still felt too firm for me (I have a sensitive arm). Having said that my strokes are better now and never gelled with the Prince like I have with the Angell; hitting a much cleaner ball these day. I know this is counter to the main view of this string. I had a similar experience with Hyper-G 16L at 38lbs. Blech...did not feel soft at all to me; ended up cutting it out. Silverstring at 38 is pillowy soft (which I like) but its no problem controlling the ball.

I know some of the Angell crowd like RS Lyon. Have not tried it. How about the Yonex Poly Tour Pro....does that play well at low tensions?

thanks

Yonex PTP 1.20 plays very well at low tension. It is relatively low powered with excellent control. Spin with 1.20 version is quite a bit better than with Silverstring.
I liked Silverstring a lot too but switched to YPTP due to better spin and control. They are both relatively soft polys.
I currently use gut mains with 1.20 YPTP cross.

YPTP 1.20 is very soft - even softer than silverstring but I found it lacking in feel, I found it quite mushy. Directional control is outstanding though, especially for the first few hours. Definitely worth a try.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I actually find Pro's Pro Nano Vendetta (the white one in 16L) to be an acceptable alternative to Silverstring.

YMMV of course.

Whatever you do, dont go Ultra cable in the Angell, cuts straight trough the grommets. Hated the string also, so def not worth it!
I've heard people having problems with shaped polys in the angell grommets. I have tried hyper-g, tour bite, and element in mine without any damage to the grommets. Probably because i string low

If you like Silverstring then Ultra Cable is not the string for you. Silverstring is a fantastic, middle-road string (spin/power-wise) which has an extremely good playing-life curve.

Ultra Cable differs in that it has one of the shortest useful playing life of any string on the market. So if you like the characteristics of Silverstring you will be let down by Ultra Cable - even if you love it for the first few hours.

Silverstring imo is one of the most underrated strings out there, especially for players who like a more classic feel rather than being right down the spin-generation end of the string spectrum.
