... that Federer and Nadal will finish their career with the same number of GS wins?
I think it would be great because I see them as two equally great champions deserving the GOAT mention.
Although not a big fan of Djokovic, I would even say that the best conclusion for the Big 3 era may be that they all end up with the same number of GS titles.

maybe Djokovic at 19, so we can forever discuss "Back and to the Left".

I want Nadal to pass Federer. If they have the same number, most people would still consider Federer the GOAT (unfairly) just because of his playing style (the elegance/ballet/tutu/hoity toity style that I never cared about).

20 is not enough for Ned to be the GOAT.

If they both end up with 20 slams it will be very debatable. Federer would have things like weeks at no.1 and the Tour Finals while Nadal would have things like the Masters 1000, Olympics Gold and the h2h. Both would have 5 Year-End no.1s and the career slam.

I want Roger to remain the lone holder of the slam count record, but Nadal joining or surpassing wouldn't bother me. As I said before, Roger's record would be safe had he defended his Wimbledon kingdom the past decade as Nadal defended his RG kingdom. Those losses in 2010, 2011 (blew a 2-0 set lead), 2013 (??), 2014 (took years to get over), 2016 (blew a 2-1 set lead), and 2019 (still gagging) are now very costly.

What utter BS. Everyone (not unfairly) would consider Fed GOAT over Rafa if they both tie at 20 slams.

Why?

1. Over a year longer ranked as #1
2. Six YEC's to 0

Yes, VB-ers... chime in now with OGM's. If so, explain why a YEC nets 1500 ATP points to an undefeated winner and the OGM awards exactly 0 points. Have a great day!~

The whole 'Slam count = GOAT' argument is so reductive.

Plenty of people would argue that Pancho Gonzales is the greatest to pick up a racquet, and he has a mere 2 Grand Slam titles.

The only way for Federer to hold onto the Slam count is if Djokovic and Thiem can stop Nadal at RG. And the Fearsome Four (Thiem, Zed, Med, Tsitsipas) step up in a huge way in 2021 to stop the big 2 from winning anymore Slams.

i mean even if he did, whatever. imagine having phillippousis on the brain since 2003tle
There have been little incremental movements in the right direction, though.

For instance, most posters of this ilk have come around to acknowledging Federer as their personal Master and Commander.

The overlord of their very beings.

2010, actually. I believe I remember that poster saying that's when he started watching. Makes sense, no?
That's the other thing, fanboying over one player excessively ain't it chief

it took me a while to realise that living vicariously through some guy who doesn't know i exist isn't healthy

Last couple of years couldn't have been easy for them.

Watching one's dainty idol getting pasted again and again by a gentleman closing on 40 must be upsetting on some levels.

I don’t like ties or draws in any sporting contest and I absolutely don’t want to see the Big 3 tied on Slam Count at the end of their careers. Who wants ambiguity to be the outcome of this epic struggle waged over two decades?

Also, if Nadal and Djokovic pass Federer in Slam count, it will be fun to see all the Fedfans start arguing that Slam count is only one of many stats for GOAThood after insisting for a decade that it is the only stat that counts. We will be hearing about “innate talent”, “aesthetic beauty”, “most sportsmanship awards”, “grass is the surface that should be used to decide who is the GOAT”, “all-court tennis is better than baseline tennis“, “Head-to-head is irrelevant”, “The real weak era is after 2014“ etc., etc. I wouldn’t want to miss out on all of that.

Obviously because the Olympics are not an ATP event. And also because the next year players will lose the points since they won’t be able to defend them.

Anyways it’s about the slams at this point not about Olympics or YEC or no.1. The biggest record in tennis is the slam race.

Sorry for double post but Nadal won’t be able to be GOAT if he ties Fed. Djokovic on the other hand probably might have a case.

The best ending of Big3 Era would be Djokovic and Nadal both passing Federer by some margin. Federer shouldn’t AND wouldn’t get away with the fake Baghdatis-Philippoussis Slams.

Pathetic 2014-2020 shouldn't count if 2004-2007 doesn't.

How do you feel about participation trophies ? (I’m asking for PCB.)

Not a fan…I would like the younger generation to enter the arena of battle in sports and endure the pain of losses and the rewards of victory. No one learns any life lessons from participation trophies. Losses teach you that if you fail to prepare, you are just preparing to fail.

Rafa potentially winning another 11 majors?

He's 34, right?

Fed almost won Wimbledon at 38 and he might not be done.

Have to think that Rafa and Djok will both be in better position at 39/40 than Fed is right now.

So...if Rafa can win the French every year until he is 40, or like 6 of the next 8...that's 25 Slams.

That's leaving out his chances of vulturing a Wimbledon, which are very real...and the obvious truth that he will probably win the US 3-4 more times.

Federer and Nadal can finish with the same number of slams.

For the good of the sport, Novak Djokovic must finish with fewer.

The slam race for Novak ended with that no-look, pinpoint shot to the throat and a juicy DQ to boot. He had one of the easiest draws of his career and managed to mess it up. And if he can't win easy ones, what makes you think he's winning the hard ones?

Nadal will certainly pass federer, 2 of the next 3 grand slams are RGs. Djokovic might also pass federer if he keeps his level for another couple of years imo.

Well, it could cost him but i don't think you can count on him hitting a linesman everytime. As far as winning the hard ones is concerned, didn't he do it multiple times in his career just like nadal and federer? Lol

You've said Mariano Puerta? Who is Mariano Puerta anyway?
Btw, Philippoussis had reach two tie-breaks against Fed and Baghdatis had win a set.
No hands down straight loss in those cases like Anderson....

Even more important are the opponets who anyone facing in order to reach the final.
Who have to check that too. Even the scores of these matches.
Take a look Zverev's opponents and them Thiem's in the latest US final.
What do you see? Did Zverev worths to win?
