What's going on with the yanks? Every American player is wiped out in the first round!

Roger Federer (SUI) def. Michael Russel (USA): 6-4 6-2 6-4
Igor Andreev (RUS) def. Andy Roddick (USA): 3-6 6-4 6-3 6-4
Ivo Karlovic (CRO) def. James Blake (USA): 4-6 6-4 7-5 7-5
Juan Carlos Ferrero (ESP) def. Amer Delic (USA): 6-7 6-3 6-3 6-4
Nicolas Almagro (ESP) def. Justin Gimelstob (USA): 6-4 6-4 6-4
Juan Pablo Brzezicki (ARG) def. Robert Kendrick (USA): 6-1 6-3 2-6 6-1
Laurent Recoudrec (FRA) def. Sam Querrey (USA): 7-6 2-6 6-0 6-7 6-3
Gilles Simon (FRA) def. Vincent Spadea (USA): 2-6 6-4 6-4 6-3

The last American hope is Robby Ginepri vs. Diego Hartfield (ARG): 4-6 6-1

When was the last time that Americans have done so poorly at RG?

The American men haven't done quite this bad, but recent years are nearly just as bad.

With the slowing down of other surfaces, the clay "philosophy" of constructing points, grinding, and choosing your spots for winners becomes even more important, even if it doesn't need to be utilized as much on hard courts and grass.

The clay guys are closer to the non-clay guys on non-clay surfaces than the non-clay guys are to the clay guys on clay. If that makes any sense.

Roger Federer (SUI) def. Michael Russel (USA): 6-4 6-2 6-4
no surprise

Igor Andreev (RUS) def. Andy Roddick (USA): 3-6 6-4 6-3 6-4
Andreev was the last to beat nadal, so again, tough draw

Ivo Karlovic (CRO) def. James Blake (USA): 4-6 6-4 7-5 7-5
coinflip

Juan Carlos Ferrero (ESP) def. Amer Delic (USA): 6-7 6-3 6-3 6-4
no contest, former FO winner vs someone who hasnt even had many big wins on hard courts

Nicolas Almagro (ESP) def. Justin Gimelstob (USA): 6-4 6-4 6-4
almagro is one of the best young clay courters in the draw

Juan Pablo Brzezicki (ARG) def. Robert Kendrick (USA): 6-1 6-3 2-6 6-1
this one's kinda iffy

Laurent Recoudrec (FRA) def. Sam Querrey (USA): 7-6 2-6 6-0 6-7 6-3
same

Gilles Simon (FRA) def. Vincent Spadea (USA): 2-6 6-4 6-4 6-3
i guess spadea should have had this one, but simon has been playing well this year.

Ginepri.. you're the only hope.
which makes the situation even that much more pathetic. i, for one, won't be missing any of the yanks. let's leave the big red stage to the REAL clay-court professionals. screw the part-timers.

Anyone actually happy about this? I know I am. Now espn will have to show us other people playing besides Roddick and Blake. Probably knowing them though, they'll re-run american womens matches to death.

We can't really say that list of Americans are great players can we?
Except for Roddick, and Blake, but he hasn't found his rhythm yet in 2007.

This is the GSOAT (Greatest spoiler of all time).

Too funny!

My questioin is, why would the guys complaining about spoliers come into a section of the boards that was precisely implemented to talk about match results? Hmmmmm?????

This last sentence is the truth. I have nothing against the Williams sisters, but WTA tennis is not high on my list of things to watch, and the two of them are probably going to be getting some serious TV time with ESPN being involved. I'm hoping they lose so that ESPN simply won't have any Americans left to give TV priority to.

On the whole, I'm very happy with all of the Americans going down early because it means I'll have a higher chance of seeing some of the real matches.

And I'm an American. ;)

What you didn't see was the OP originally started this in an *illegal* section. It was moved to the Results sub-forum after-the-fact.

This is actually the first time no American has made it to the second round in the open era. Genepri still remains.....but c'mon, he doesn't have a chance.

Guess again. Roland Garros is now officially a WTA tournament. Happens every year. As strange as it sounds, it might be better if USA guys could stick around longer; even if you aren't interested in them, they might play someone who you are interested in. But now it'll be nothing but women's tennis.

nah,it could actually be worse. All usa women could have lost too,so now with no american players left in the draws, espn decide that american public are no more interested in watching ANY tennis, and change to amateur curling. For the rest 2 weeks.:)
Always look at the bright side!

P.S: Someone who played on the main court of the Sony Ericsson Open can never be an idiot.

Thanks Bagh! I feel the love :)

Glad you enjoyed those photos. We had a blast, and the feeling of walking thru the tunnel onto the stadium was unbelievable. Wish everyone at TW could experience that feeling. Just to be able to serve from where sampras, agassi, federer, nadal, connors, mcenroe, etc have stood was extremely humbling. I have so much more respect for players after having that experience. I felt intimidated and there was a total of about 10 "spectators" watching us. LOL. Can't even fathom what it would feel like to play in front of thousands of people.

I agree with Tennis Hand big-time! This generation of players cant measure up to what the last generation did at the french--Courier, Chang and Agassi managed to come through and win and they never grew up on the dirt.

Why was my post deleted? All it said was "that was uncalled for, reported" or something like that. I reported a post that slandered another user, what's wrong with that?

You quoted the post you reported and which was subsequently deleted.

It's a good start though :D

Most of us here on the forum will never have the chance to play on a court like that in their whole lives so you should feel lucky about it.

Some of them the losses were completely expected:

Roger Federer defeats Michael Russel. No brainer.
Igor Andreev defeats Andy Roddick. People should have seen this coming.
Juan Carlos Ferrero defeats Amer Delic. This was an obvious one too.
Nicolas Almagro defeats Justin Gimelstob. Another obvious one.

The ones that maybe you could have hoped the Americans to come through:

Karlovic defeats Blake. I would think Blake would have a good chance on clay.

Juan Pablo Brzezicki defeats Robert Kendrick. Some hopes for Kendrick, but still the other guy is probably more comfortable and suited to clay.

Laurent Recoudrec defeats Sam Querrey. Querrey would go in with a chance, but the home crowd factor probably made the other one favored.

Gilles Simon defeats Vincent Spadea. Probably the most dissapointing loss, but Spadea is on the way down, and Simon is French.

No US male makes it to the 2nd round. Trivia junkies when was the last time that happened. My guess if 30+ years.

They should do great at wimbledon, they get more grasscourt practice time than everyone else.

I though that Sam Querrey had a chance to win a first rd at Roland Garros. He had 2 sets to 1 but that thread the needle. On man, that must SUK
